International Trailer: The Crazies

7 December 2009 8:04 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

The list of films that I want to see next year is ever growing and today I’m reminded about The Crazies which is scheduled for release 26th February 2010.

Crazies stars Timothy Olyphant, Radha Mitchell, Danielle Panabaker, Joe Anderson and is directed by Breck Eisner. Check out the new international trailer below.

In a terrifying tale of the American Dream gone wrong, four friends find themselves trapped in their hometown. A reinvention of the George A. Romero classic, The Crazies is directed by Breck Eisner (Sahara) and is based on a screenplay by Ray Wright (Pulse, Case 39) and Scott Kosar (The Amityville Horror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre).

David Dutton (Timothy Olyphant) is sheriff in a picture-perfect American town with happy, law-abiding citizens. But one night, one of them comes to a school baseball game with a loaded shotgun, ready to kill. Another man burns down his house after locking »

Donnelly, Oppenheimer to Pen ‘Drake’s Fortune’

24 November 2009 3:32 AM, PST | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Columbia Pictures picked up the rights to a screen adaptation of the video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune back in June, and Kyle Ward was quickly attached to write.

Due to other commitments, Ward has now gracefully bowed out of the project, and screenwriting duo Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer stepped in to take his place.

The two writers were responsible for Sahara, Conan, Cowboys & Aliens, and the upcoming adaptation of the  comic book Dead of Night.

Donnelly and Oppenheimer will have their hands full writing the action-packed adaptation. The video game, which sold 1 million copies in its first 10 weeks on the market, follows treasure hunter Nate Drake who is, of course, descended from the famous explorer Sir Francis Drake.

Drake believes a cursed statue has revealed to him the location of the legendary city of El Dorado, and sets out to find the treasure that is said to be hidden there. »

“Uncharted” Movie News

24 November 2009 3:17 AM, PST | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

Sony Pictures has hired two new writers to adapt “Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune,” a movie based on PlayStation 3 hit video game, into a theatrical feature, reports Latino Review.

It was previously announced that Kyle Ward (Hitman 2) was writing the script for the action-adventure, but apparently that deal never went through.

Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly are set to pen the film adaptation. They have previously penned “Sahara” and are the writers on the upcoming “Dead of Night” and “Conan” adaptations.

The story follows a descendant of explorer Sir Francis Drake, a treasure hunter named Nate Drake who believes he has learned the whereabouts of El Dorado, the fabled South American golden city, from a cursed golden statue. The search becomes competitive when a rival hunter joins the fray, then is ratcheted up several notches when creatures — actually mutated descendants of Spaniards and Nazis — begin attacking those hoping to »

New Writers Hired for Sony's Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Movie

23 November 2009 1:40 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Back in June we first reported that Sony had acquired the rights to adapt the popular PlayStation video game Uncharted: Drake's Fortune into a feature film. When it was announced, screenwriter Kyle Ward had been hired to write the script. The studio was waiting for a finished script before hiring a director. However, Latino Review now says that Ward is off the project and he's been replaced by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, two screenwriters you've probably never heard of before. The two just finished writing the new Conan movie for Lionsgate and also have credits on Sahara and Dead of Night. The action-filled story in Uncharted: Drake's Fortune follows a descendant of explorer Sir Francis Drake, a treasure hunter named Nate Drake who believes he has learned the whereabouts of El Dorado, the fabled South American golden city, from a cursed golden statue. ‘Conan’ Screenwriters Map Out ‘Uncharted’ Movie

23 November 2009 7:20 AM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and its recent sequel are great adventure videogames that springboard off of Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider, with much more fluidity and cinematic flair than we’re usually accustomed to in gameplay. That said — it’s a videogame, and like all videogames, it will shine most brilliantly as something interactive, while a film will only diminish its value.

Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, the screenwriters behind A Sound of Thunder, the upcoming Conan, and Sahara have been tasked with bringing Uncharted to life on the big screen.

As an adventure film, this has plenty of potential — about as much as it stands to derive many of its qualities from the Indiana Jones franchise. However, that vacuum left by Indy’s last crusade has never been successfully filled by any successors; could Uncharted transcend the usual flaws of videogame adaptations and become a truly great action-adventure franchise? »

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune Movie Gets a Pair of Writers

23 November 2009 7:07 AM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

It continues to perplex me why, exactly, studios insist on producing big-budget motion pictures based on video games. The track record for such an expensive endeavor is spotty at best, especially in terms of box office success. With the exception of “Silent Hill” and the “Resident Evil” series, I can’t think of any other adaptations that come close to capturing the spirit of the source material. That being said, if there’s a possibility that an IP can make a few dollars on the big screen, someone out there will try their best to make it happen. You can’t blame a greedy, opportunistic producer for trying, right? Latino Review is reporting today that “Sahara” and “A Sound of Thunder” scribes Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly have been hired to pen the upcoming “Uncharted” flick, which should follow the events portrayed in the first installment of the series. »

Conan Writers For Drake's Fortune

The screen-writing duo of Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer - responsible for such classics (!) as Sahara and A Sound of Thunder (no, us neither but Ben Kingsley's in it which suggests it might suck) who were taken on to write a script for the upcoming remake of Conan have just been hired to adapt the videogame Uncharted : Drake's Fortune for the big screen.

The hit action-adventure game centres on a 400 year-old clue, found in the coffin of Sir Francis Drake (hence the title) by his descendent Nathan 'Nate' Drake, pointing towards the mythical treasure of El Dorado, at which point the inevitable quest ensues.

Conan Screenwriters Board Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune

23 November 2009 12:45 AM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

You might remember back in June that Sony hired a screenwriter, Kyle Ward, to develop a film based on the PlayStation 3 game Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.  Our friends at LatinoReview are now reporting that Kyle's deal fell apart at the last minute because Sony were unwilling to wait around, possibly as long as a year, as Ward was contractually obligated to pen Hitman 2. They have instead hired the writing team Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, whose screenwriting credits include Sahara, the horrible adaptation of A Sound of Thunder, and the upcoming Dylan Dog adaptation Dead of Night and the Marcus Nispel remake of Conan. Donnelly and Oppenheimer's produced projects aren't too impressive, but they must have impressed someone to get attached to Conan and now the fast tracked video game adaptation Drake's Fortune. Conan Cameo For Dolph Lundgren?

The man responsible for the terror that was Captain Ivan Drago in Rocky IV and the joy that was He-Man in Masters of the Universe revealed to MTV that he’s in talks for an unnamed part in the upcoming Conan reboot.  Lundgren caught MTV New’s attention with this little ditty:

“I’ve talked to the producers about doing something for Conan

As to whether anything was definite, the man went on to say:

“It’s too early”

Regarding a question about when he might know for sure, he responded:

“probably next year”

He-Man need not go on.

Lundgren will also be appearing in the upcoming Sly Stallone-directed mercenary flick, The Expendables, which has the same production team as Conan. He-Man can network.

The new Conan is to be directed by Marcus Nispel (who replaced Brett Ratner) and penned by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer.  Nispel helmed Friday the 13th »

Late Bloomer McConaughey Looking Forward At 40

5 November 2009 12:11 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Matthew McConaughey is looking forward to his forties - insisting life gets better the older he gets.

The Sahara star turned the big 4-0 on Wednesday and spent the day reminiscing with friends and family at a wild house party.

But the actor isn't concerned about approaching middle-age - branding himself a "late bloomer" who's got so much to look forward to.

On his MySpace.com blog, he writes, "The 30's were good to me and I'm really looking forward to my 40's, 'cause I'm a late bloomer.

"Got everything I need for a perfect 40th…a happy and healthy lady, son, and another baby on the way." »

Casting Breakdown For ‘Conan’ Remake

28 October 2009 2:22 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

/Film pointed us to a detailed breakdown for the characters in Marcus Nispel’s reboot of Conan The Barbarian, which is scheduled to begin shooting in Bulgaria in February.  Nispel brought us Friday the 13th (2009) and The Very Best of Cher: The Video Hits Collection.  If he can slip the right character into that “If I Could Turn Back Time” outfit, I’ll go see Conan in the theaters 32 times.  However, dress that outfit on the wrong character and who knows how many cities will burn?

IMDb lists Roland Kickinger as being rumored to play the barbarian.  You might remember him from such films as Terminator Salvation (he played the T-800’s body) and Lethal Weapon 4Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, the gentlemen credited with writing Conan, worked together previously penning the scripts for Sahara and Dead of Night.

Trailer - Pedro Almodóvar's 'Broken Embraces'

14 October 2009 4:47 PM, PDT | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

They often go overlooked in the discussion of the great director-star pairings, but there's very little doubt that Pedro Almodóvar gets the best out of Penélope Cruz or that she raises the level of his films. True, he's great as it is and Cruz has been better in general in recent years (if you thought she was good winning the gold in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, you should see Elegy), but together, it's just one of those magical combinations that really doesn't come along all that often.

Their latest collaboration is Broken Embraces (Los Abrazos Rotos), and once again, Cruz is building a case for Academy Award consideration. If she does get a nomination, it would be her third in four years, following Vicky Cristina and Almodóvar's Volver. She sure has left Sahara sufficiently behind her, hasn't she?

From the trailer, featured below, you don't get much of a story to work from, »
