Roland Emmerich.s up to his familiar old ways . .My films are bigger, louder and splashier than yours are!. and while that may be true, it doesn.t make them good or worthy. Emmerich has never been able to get out of his own way in making films . he requires jothing less than total annihilation of earth. They.re about sound, fury and shallow anthology storylines that signify nothing much. His overused End of Days scenario is as tired as this film is long; he has nothing to say that he didn.t already sayd in Godzilla, 10,000 B.C., Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow. Disaster epics are so mid- nineties, the golden era of CGI, when computer geeks »

While on the set of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, we had a chance to talk to some of the cast. Below you will find our roundtable interviews with Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton: You've done big movies like The Day After Tomorrow and you've had some opportunities to do a franchise movie, so what was it about this particular franchise that made you want to be involved in it? Jake Gyllenhaal: I think just on a personal front, it was just so unlikely and so unlike anything I'd ever played really, and any type of movie that I think anyone would expect, that I just kind of wanted to do it. (laughs) It felt like that personally, but also, more than anything, when I talked with Mike Newell about it, it wasn't just like your normal video game adaptation. It was an actual massive epic »

Opening this Friday is director Roland Emmerich’s 2012. As most of you have seen in commercials and trailers, 2012 is about a global cataclysm that causes massive destruction to our planet. If you’re keeping count, this is Emmerich’s third time blowing up our planet (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow) and I think he’s learned from his previous efforts to deliver his biggest ride yet. Trust me, 2012 is loaded with some of the craziest special effects you’ll see this year and if you want to have some fun, grab a popcorn and just go for the ride.
To help promote the film, our partners at Omelete were invited to the international press day and they sent me to cover it. So after the jump you can watch my interview with Chiwetel Ejiofor where we talk about what this year has been like for him, 2012 theories, making the movie, »

I adored Independence Day when it first came out. Tons of action, tons of destruction, tons of comedy and Will Smith made a perfect combo. The Roland Emmerich tried to talk some Global Warming sense into me with The Day After Tomorrow, a film that might have actually hurt any environmentalist's cause by overdoing just about everything. The film had a few visuals, but ended up being pretty lame. Then came 10,000 BC, and I immediately wanted to see it. I did, and I hated it. Besides a few visuals, I was once again left with a film that had nothing real to offer. So now comes 2012, a film that looks to be Emmerich's coup de gras.
Judging by the first reviews for the film, the director does (finally) succeed at making a film that pulls off some realistic destruction. If only the characters could live up to the environments in which they are placed. »

Despite the revelation, the Miley Cyrus' brother doesn't give hint on what kind of tattoo he wants to etch. He also doesn't mention on which part of his body the new body art will be inked.
Trace Cyrus is the guitarist, songwriter and vocalist of band Metro Station. He made headlines in July this year after confirming that he has split from girlfriend Demi Lovato. None of them has ever confirmed before that they ever dated though. »

2012 is one of those strange movies where you feel like you shouldn’t like it but cant help yourself enjoying and even sometimes laughing at the world’s destruction, either because of it’s slightly cheesy and humorous script or because the effects are so darn good that it just looks fantastic.
If you’ve not been following the story on HeyUGuys previously, 2012 is a story, in a nutshell, about the end of the world. I’m going to try and write this review with zero spoilers but I’ll warn you before I say anything close to one.
In the movie, there are two sets of main characters, the first is led by Oliver Platt and Chiwetel Ejiofor as the government scientists who spot that disaster is going to occur in 2009. The other group are a family led by John Cusack who is struggling to come to terms with the divorce from his wife, »

There are many theories, ideas or should I say 'schools of thought' on how the world would end. At the height of the Cold War, nuclear annihilation ranks at the very top. While others argue it will not be man who will destroy the world (directly) but - an epidemic of global proportions (most probably from a potent strain of virus - think: I am Legend) or severe climactic change (another ice age perhaps? That would be Day After Tommorow right?) or mechanical uprising (The Terminator, anyone?) or even attack from the outside - conquering aliens (Mars Attacks!) or perhaps an asteroid. And let's not forget zombies!

You can usually set your calendar by Roland Emmerich and one of his huge summer disaster spectacles, such “The Day After Tomorrow” or “Independence Day.”
But this year something’s off with his timing – appropriately enough, it turns out, as his latest mega-disaster, “2012,” is based on doomsday interpretations of the Mayan calendar and its apparent prediction that a cataclysm of epic proportions awaits the earth in 2012.
Obviously this sort of thing can’t be handled by governments and scientists. It takes... »

Love it or hate it, there’s no denying Independence Day was a big movie, with a place in cinematic history. Roland Emmerich has been the prince of diminishing returns since, but remains the current king of the global disaster movie. With next week’s 2012, he’s hoping to get his career back on track.
10,000 BC was universally panned, so he has decided to go back to what he does best. Namely, destroying contemporary landmarks, and killing a large percentage of the population. Emmerich loves himself a budget, and epic scale CGI, and judging from the trailer, he has used both liberally. There have been plenty of pre-release clips to encourage the hype. You can see a five minute clip in full HD here, some additional clips here, and some behind the scenes footage here.
As usual, however, there is a human story to be told. In this case, it »

Roland Emmerich, whose disaster movie 2012 erupts on to the big screen on November 13, has revealed he finds superhero movies boring and has rejected every offer to direct a comic book adaptation.
Emmerich, whose other credits include Godzilla, The Day After Tomorrow, Independence Day and Stargate, admitted he was "a little worried" about the culture of remakes and adaptations.
He said: "I don't know how many more superheroes they can pull out of their hat. I hate superheroes.
"I always say no to every one that I get offered because I feel that it's boring. But they seem to be successful for some of the people.
"Some of them do [make money], some don't. But they make more money than they lose so they keep making them, and when one works then they have a franchise."
Speaking in Sci Fi Now magazine, he continued: "It's very unimaginative. I'm a total fan of people »

Spoiler warning? Next week, director Roland Emmerich will unleash his latest global disaster epic, "2012." I love a good event blockbuster, especially when digital effects and scenery chewing combine in a world-ending orgy of capital-a-Amazing. And Emmerich is the unquestioned master of such things, with feathers like "Independence Day" and "The Day After Tomorrow" in his cap.
Fanboy leanings aside, I have to question the necessity of a "2012" spin-off TV series. Emmerich told Entertainment Weekly that such plans are in the works, with the movie's executive producer Mark Gordon ("Grey's Anatomy") also attached. As the director told EW, "The movie talks about the varied reactions people have in the face of disaster and who should survive and how we carry on and what parts of our culture do we save. The TV show could carry on all that."
The plan is to set the series in the aftermath of the destruction. »

John Woo has his doves, Quentin Tarantino his fictional brands and Hitchcock had his cameos; directors love putting their signature stamp on movies and they come in all shapes and forms. Just look at the cinematic CV of German filmmaker, Roland Emmerich. 1996 – Independence Day, aliens lay siege to earth, taking out the likes of the Empire State Building and the White House. 1998 – Godzilla – New York under attack by a giant Japanese monster. 2004 – The Day After Tomorrow – global warming bites us in the ass with a giant storm that brings a new ice age. And now 2009 – 2012, a tale of global destruction based on the theory that the world will end according to the Mayan Long Count Calendar. Spot the similarities? Not that Emmerich is happy to destroy any old landmark that stands in his wake, with one apparently off limits to the disaster-loving director. »
