‘The Birds’ Remake Gets A New Director?

3 December 2009 8:49 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

The last time we reported on the completely unnecessary remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic The Birds, it looked to be dead on the ground, at least for the time being. Sadly, however, it appears the remake is still on its way, and it may have found a new director.

Casino Royale director, Martin Campbell, had been attached up until this point to direct The Birds. However, a little project called Green Lantern came along, and evidently The Birds got brushed to the side and almost forgot about. According to Pajiba, their inside source in The Hollywood Cog says that Campbell is no longer helming the $60 million project, which is set up at Michael Bay’s horror remake-prone production company, Platinum Dunes (the studio responsible for the remakes of A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Amityville Horror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th, amongst others).

Hooper's Eggshells Screening in L.A.

29 November 2009 | shocktillyoudrop.com | See recent shocktillyoudrop news »

Before he set loose Leatherface on an unsuspecting America, Tobe Hooper directed Eggshells and the Steve Allen Theater Drive-In in Los Angeles (4773 Hollywood Blvd.) is giving you a chance to see this "lost" '68 film from the director of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre . Beginning December 4, the film - which screened to SXSW audiences in March - will get a midnight run at the Steve Allen (part of a limited theatrical run) before hitting DVD from Watchmaker Films. Due to weather concerns the screenings may move from the outdoor drive-in screening to the indoor theater (at the same venue) at the end of December. Eggshells is described as a trippy experience capturing "the Austin counter culture scene of the late sixties, new attitudes of sex, love, drugs and... »

Biel: 'Filming Texas Chainsaw was hard'

27 November 2009 7:51 AM, PST | digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news »

Jessica Biel has admitted that filming horror movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was one of her most difficult experiences. The actress starred in the 2003 remake of the iconic slasher, which revolved around a group of college students being killed in rural Texas. Speaking to The Independent, she said: "[It was] probably one of the hardest experiences for me, emotionally and creatively. "It was intense because I was at this high level of freak-out (more) »

The Yellow Rose of "Texas Chainsaw"

26 November 2009 1:10 PM, PST | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Although Jessica Biel is voicing a sweet, green alien girl in the upcoming animated film Planet 51 and was the cute daughter on the long-running family drama 7th Heaven, she was able to successfully overturn her wholesome girl-next-door image when she starred in Marcus Nispel's bloody reboot of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. During press for Planet 51, Biel took a few moments to discuss her experience in 2003 slasher.

As Erin, the female lead, Biel looked great in a 1973 macrame halter top, screamed like a champ and successfully avoided mutilation and meathooks from a Mullet-headed Leatherface. The film was a hit, spawning a Biel-less prequel that bombed.

"Doing a movie like Texas Chainsaw Massacre was the complete opposite extreme for me--opposite of everything," she declares.

"Making Texas was probably one of the hardest experiences for me emotionally," Jessica Biel says thoughtfully. "Emotionally and creatively, it was really intense."

New movie adaptation planned for barbarian warrior Kull

24 November 2009 3:43 AM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Paradox Entertainment says it is planning a new film based on the warrior hero Kull.

Paradox's CEO Fredrik Malmberg revealed plans for the reboot to French website Fantasy.fr.

Robert E Howard, who also created Conan, introduced Kull in a 1929 issue of the pulp magazine Weird Tales. The character later appeared in comics by Marvel and more recently Dark Horse.

Born in Atlantis around 20,000Bc, Kull is exiled over a mercy killing and later vecomes a mercenary and eventually king of Valusia on the neighbouring continent of Thuria.

A film adaptation, Kull the Conqueror, was released in 1997, directed by John Nicolella and starring Kevin Sorbo in the title role. Other cast members included Tia Carrere, Harvey Fierstein and Primeval star Douglas Henshall.

The Universal movie, which was a box office dud, was in fact an adaptation of Howard's Conan novel The Hour of the Dragon, with the lead character »

Bradley Cooper and Sam Worthington to Frolic in The Texas Killing Fields

17 November 2009 2:45 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Back in February when he was fresh off his Oscar-win, Danny Boyle told MTV he was considering a project called The Texas Killing Fields, which was in no way related to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre but does speak to people’s fear of the Lone Star State and their decision not to mess with it.  The plot is mostly under wraps but it concerns two cops who discover that a recent murder in their jurisdiction is connected to the notorious “Killing Fields Murders.”

While Boyle ultimately decided not to do the film (he has since moved on to direct the survival tale 127 Hours), it has now moved into the hands of Ami Mann, daughter of Michael Mann (Heat), with Bradley Cooper and Sam Worthington attached to star.  Click the jump for more details.

Boyle loved the script for Killing Fields but didn’t think the movie would happen without a »

Dwayne Johnson, Jessica Biel and Justin Long Interview, Planet 51

16 November 2009 8:00 PM, PST | MoviesOnline.ca | See recent MoviesOnline news »

MoviesOnline sat down recently with Dwayne Johnson, Jessica Biel and Justin Long to talk about their new film, “Planet 51,” a galactic-sized animated alien adventure comedy.

When American astronaut Captain Charles "Chuck" Baker (Johnson) lands on Planet 51, he thinks he's the first person to step foot on it only to discover that this planet is inhabited by little green people who are happily living in a white picket fence world reminiscent of a cheerfully innocent 1950s America, and whose only fear is that it will be overrun by alien invaders...like Chuck! With the help of his robot companion "Rover" and his new friend Lem (Long), Chuck must navigate his way through the dazzling, but bewildering, landscape of Planet 51 in order to escape becoming a permanent part of the Planet 51 Alien Invaders Space Museum.

Dwayne Johnson, Jessica Biel and Justin Long are fabulous people and we really appreciated their time. »

Stephen Susco Penning 'Hack/Slash' Adaptation!

15 November 2009 11:34 PM, PST | bloody-disgusting.com | See recent Bloody-Disgusting.com news »

It has been one long road to getting Cassie Hack on the big screen, but hey, we're getting close! With Fredrik Bond attached to direct, Relativity has tapped Stephen Susco to pen the latest draft of the live-action adaptation of Hack/Slash, a film that should kick off a brand new franchise. The comic centers on Cassie Hack, a woman who symbolizes the lone girl who survives at the end of every horror movie. Hack not only survived, she has become a killer of killers and travels to small towns across the country hunting slashers in the vein of Halloween's Michael Myers, Friday the 13th's Jason Voorhees and A Nightmare on Elm Street's Freddy Krueger. She is partnered on her journey with Vlad, a hulking companion who serves as her protector. Susco is also writing The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3Dfor Twisted Pictures and The Butcherhouse Chronicles for Paramount Pictures. »

Jessica Biel, Justin Long, and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Interview Planet 51

15 November 2009 1:31 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Last week, Sony held a press junket at the Griffith Observatory, here in Los Angeles, to help promote their upcoming animated movie Planet 51.  Since the film takes place on another planet, I think the location was perfect.  Also, almost every press day is held at a hotel, and it’s great to “shake and bake” the junket format.   But while the location was different, that didn’t stop Jessica Biel, Justin Long, and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson from making all the journalists laugh during most of their press conference.  While you may be sick of Justin Long and his Mac commercials, the guy is quick on his feet when reacting to questions.  I was very impressed.

Anyway, after the jump to can either read the transcript of the press conference or listen to the audio.  While I always think listening to the audio is better than reading a trancript, »

Jessica Biel Has a Crush on Jennifer Garner

12 November 2009 1:49 AM, PST | Celebrity Mania | See recent Celebrity Mania news »

"The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" star Jessica Biel, gave thumbs up for Ben Affleck's taste in woman and addressed Ben's wife, Jennifer Garner, as her girl crush. However, Jessica insisted that she's no competition for Ben because she isn't sexually attracted to Jennifer and her admiration for the "Elektra" star is purely platonic.

Jessica, who is now dating Justin Timberlake, said, "My girl crush is Jen Garner at the moment (but) here's the thing with girl crushes: it's more of a respect thing." She continued, "It's like, you're beautiful, you're cool, you look and seem like somebody I would want to hang out with and your career is awesome."

On November 10, Jessica Biel and Jennifer Garner were spotted breaking bread together at Madeo in Los Angeles. The two actresses were co-stars in the star-studded Garry Marshall's movie, "Valentine's Day", which will be released in the U.S. on February »

Originally written by Michael Hidalgo, Butcherhouse is a darkly comic horror stage show about four high school students out to discover the truth behind a mysterious old (haunted) property known as the Butcherhouse. 25 Most Disturbing Movies #4: Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Continuing Simon Augustine's countdown of the Most Disturbing Movies (Read Part 1 for the first 13). [<< #5]

4. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) 8/8

Tobe Hooper, a talented and innovative filmmaker who never quite got his mainstream due, even after making Poltergeist (and be embroiled in controversy with Steven Spielberg about who actually directed it), made this perennial classic on the cheap in the early seventies. Taking the baton from Wes Craven and Last House on The Left, it expresses the miasma of violent dread and disorientation that hung over an America left schizophrenic by the auto-cannibalism of Vietnam, Kent State, Attica, Watergate, etc. Hooper swings at the audience with the kind of gritty haymaker that only very hungry, very creative, and very poor directors just out of the gate can make. »

Horror Chick: Why Do We Like Scary Movies?

5 November 2009 9:02 AM, PST | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Melissa Lafsky is a friend of mine, but she's always seemed strange to me for one reason: She loves horror movies. Loves them. Thrillers, slashers, creature features — she's seen all of them, probably a bunch of times, and certainly without her eyes covered. I, by contrast, mute the sound when some stupid slasher commercial comes on during The Daily Show (seriously, Comedy Central, it's enough). I fail to see how a movie called "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" could be remotely appealing, let alone beget any sort of sequel. And yet, horror films are big box office hits, and always seem to find an audience. Which explains why Melissa's new column, "Horror Chick," has become such a favorite over at The Awl, where she writes with gusto about dismemberments, flayings, hangings, stabbings, impalings, devourings, eviscerations and the odd demonic possession.... »
