Geek Deal: Three Blu-Ray Movie Packs for $25

21 November 2009 1:39 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Amazon has some awesome deals on some select three Blu-Ray movie packs. Each of the listed packs below is only $24.99 each, and also comes with $5 credit towards select Amazon on-demand TV-Shows. That's basically $8.33 for each Blu-ray disc. Action Collection: Jumper, Transporter, Transports 2 Action Hero Collection: The Day After Tomorrow, I, Robot, The Terminator Hard Action Collection: Hitman, Street Kings, Man on Fire War Hero Collection: Behind Enemy Lines, Patton, Rescue Dawn Funny Guy Collection: Napoleon Dynamite, Office Space, Young Frankenstein Jock Collection: Dodgeball, Hoosiers, Rocky I always find it amusing how these three packs are grouped. They usually contain one or two good movies and a film you'd never ever buy. But at the price, it's probably still worth it for the two movies you do like. The Funny Guy Collection is probably the one exception, unless you're one of those people that hated Napoleon. »

Blu-Ray Review: Denzel Washington, Tony Scott Take ‘Pelham 123’ Seriously

5 November 2009 9:07 AM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – When a New York subway dispatcher finds himself locked in a tense battle of the wits with a deranged criminal onboard Pelham 123, he’s offered this bit of advice from a seasoned hostage negotiator: don’t enter his world. The same warning could be issued to viewers intent on entering the world of Tony Scott. It is a cinematic landscape that is alternately marred and enhanced by Add.

Blu-Ray Rating: 3.0/5.0

With his ever-changing frame rate and rapid editing, Scott speeds through his story until he lands on a part that sparks his interest; often a moment of physical or emotional violence. This plays out in extreme slo-mo, halting the movement and blurring the action to such an extent that the audience feels like they have been punched in the head.

The Taking of Pelham 123 was released on Blu-Ray and DVD on November 3rd, 2009.

Angelina Jolie in New Teaser Trailer as Agent Salt

4 November 2009 5:42 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

I love salt, all types of salt really – Sea salt, table salt, rock salt and Evelyn Salt. Not familiar with that last one? She’s next summer’s female action spy played the ever so pouty-lipped Angelina Jolie. At one point, Tom Cruise was rumored to be attached to the Phillip Noyce (Patriot Games, The Bone Collector) directed secret double agent yarn but ultimately, Noyce and company decided to go with a more feminine touch. Good move guys!

Jolie has proven time and again that she is the go-to woman in Hollywood for lead female action roles. Say what you want about the Tomb Raider movie, but as Lara Croft there can be no other woman playing the part. Same goes for her roles in Mr. and Mrs. Smith and last summer’s Wanted. In Salt, she appears to be just as convincing while playing a wrongly accused woman on the run. »

Salt Trailer Starring Angelina Jolie (in English)

4 November 2009 11:53 AM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Earlier this week, a Russian trailer for the upcoming Angelina Jolie action-thriller Salt found its way online, but was quickly pulled down by Sony... and really, who wants to see a low-quality, dubbed version of a trailer anyway? (A lot of people... I know.) Today they have debuted the first domestic trailer for the film over at Yahoo! [1], and although it looks fairly action-packed, I can't say there is anything all that noteworthy about it either. Is Angelina Jolie really the biggest current female action star? It seems weird to say that, but I guess her filmography proves it. Either way, I'm sure they're hoping to attract fans of Wanted with this one. The production history on Salt has kind of a weird twist in that Tom Cruise was originally supposed to star in the lead role (and not in drag). Somewhere along the way they rewrote the story so »

Boiling Point: The End Game

2 November 2009 7:17 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

I don't think it's much of a stretch to say that the end of a film is the most important part.  Only the climax can completely alter what you've just seen.  Fight Club would be an entertaining story without the twist ending, but with it, it completely changes everything that has come before it.    There of dozens of movies that are just good, but then turn great when the ending reveals itself.  Though for everyone one of that type of ending, there are probably three or four shitty endings.  Pretty good movies, trucking along and being respectable, then derailed and killed by a shitty ending. I could (and one day will) complain just about bad endings.  Unnecessarily sad endings.  Endings that want to make a point but end up making no real impact or sense.  One example, for me, is Man on Fire, a badass movie that gets to the end where Denzel "Baddest Mother in the »

On Carolla’s show [via The Playlist] Foster said he wanted to focus more on the drivers than the behind-the-scenes politics.  While some may find the politics interesting, I find a focus on the drivers far more exciting for the »

Matt Damon Trailer Double-Bill: ‘Green Zone’ & ‘Invictus’

28 October 2009 10:29 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Just recently a couple of trailers appeared online for two highly-anticipated films starring Matt Damon: Paul GreengrassGreen Zone and Clint Eastwood’s Invictus. They are very different types of movies – Green Zone being like Bourne set during the Iraq War and Invictus looking like one of those biopics that is clearly “Oscar-ish.” Check out both of the trailers below.

Green Zone

Green Zone reunites the Bourne director Paul Greengrass and star, Matt Damon, and is a war-drama/thriller about about a pair of CIA agents on the trail of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. We reported back in the summer of this year that Green Zone had been moved from a late 2009 release to March 12th, 2010, leading to some confusion over that why, as the film seems like prime material for the Oscars.

However, as you’ll see in the trailer below – much as was the case »

The Keeper Promises An Abundance Of Seagal-Related Mayhem

23 October 2009 11:55 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Very quietly, with little to no fanfare whatsoever, Steven Seagal’s latest direct-to-video escapade “The Keeper” made its Region 2 DVD debut on October 19th. How this one slipped past my Seagal-centric radar system is truly perplexing, and may suggest that my second-hand equipment is in desperate need of an upgrade. The film — directed by Keoni Waxman and written by Seagal himself — actually looks pretty good, though it seems to share the same basic concept as Tony Scott’s “Man on Fire.” The specifics may be different, but the emotional investment is pretty much identical. Regardless, Seagal is back. Again. Of course, I’m sure most you probably don’t care, and that’s perfectly okay. Here’s the official word on the street regarding the plot: Seagal stars as a tough California cop who flees to New Mexico when his corrupt partner makes an attempt on his life. Starting over again in his new surroundings, »

Tony Scott Remaking The Hunger Vampire Film

22 September 2009 5:30 PM, PDT | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

In a THR article about how author Whitley Strieber has signed with the Gersh Agency, is news that Warner Bros is currently developing a remake of "The Hunger." Striber wrote "The Hunger" early in her career and back in 1983, director Tony Scott (Man on Fire, Deja Vu) turned the novel into a vampire horror film, starring Catherine Deneuve, David Bowie and Susan Sarandon. Plot: An Egyptian vampire lady Miriam subsists upon the blood of her lovers. In return, the men and women don't age, until Miriam had enough of them. That becomes the case with John and his life expectancy has been reduced to 24 hours. Desperately he seeks help from Dr. Sarah Roberts, who decides to get in contact with Miriam herself only to get caught up as well. Last we heard, Scott was considering doing a sequel rather than a remake. And back in July, it was reported that Fredrik Bond (Hack/Slash, »

Law Abiding Citizen Trailer Online

13 August 2009 7:32 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

The first trailer for Law Abiding Citizen has hit the intertubes, and we like what we see. What do we see? Well, Gerry Butler transforming from nice, family man to puppet-master and tirade of destruction, mostly. That, and Jamie Foxx looking progressively more fearful of his personal safety. Amid some confusion over the launching of the trailer, you can for the moment see the trailer for Law Abiding Citizen here. The F. Gary Gray thriller has had a rocky journey to the screen, first catching our attention as a screenplay from Kurt Wimmer (creator of one of Empire Online’s all–time favourite films in Equilibrium), before the project was handed over to another of our much loved movie makers, Frank Darabont. Sadly he too left the project, and in stepped Gray, to deliver what looks like a nicely nasty chunk of Man On Fire style remorseless revenge –albeit with a twist. »

Friday Report: 'Hangover,' 'Up' Stay on Top

13 June 2009 4:53 PM, PDT | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

The party didn't stop for The Hangover, which led Friday with an estimated $10.4 million. The comedy was off 38 percent from last Friday, increasing its gross to $82.4 million in eight days. By comparison, Wedding Crashers saw a smaller drop at the same point (28 percent) but was grossing less with an eight-day tally of around $70 million, adjusted for ticket price inflation. Hangover's trajectory suggests a weekend of around $32 million, which would be enough for the top spot.

Coming in second with the smallest dip of all nationwide releases (32 percent), Up generated an estimated $8.9 million, growing its total to $165.5 million in 15 days. Pixar's comedy adventure has set a course for a third weekend in the vicinity of $29 million.

Debuting in third, The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 brought in an estimated $8.2 million on approximately 4,400 screens at 3,074 sites. The action thriller featuring Denzel Washington and John Travolta was within the typical range for »

Denzel Washington is set to reteam with director Tony Scott for the fifth time in his career - he's poised to sign on to new movie Unstoppable.

The pair has previously worked together on Crimson Tide, Man on Fire, Deja vu and the forthcoming The Taking of Pelham 1,2,3.

Unstoppable is loosely based on a real life event and is about an experienced engineer who jumps on a train to chase down a runaway locomotive transporting a cargo of toxic chemicals. »

Denzel Washington’s Love For Tony Scott Is ‘Unstoppable’

24 April 2009 1:13 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Denzel Washington is this close to starring in Tony Scott's upcoming action drama Unstoppable.  It's a "runaway train" story where Washington would play a senior engineer who joins a wet behind the ears conductor to chase the titular locomotive and its toxic cargo.  They chase it with a second train... wouldn't it be easier to fly a helicopter to it a climb down a rope ladder?  Probably depends on how they plan on stopping the runaway (ie probably by attaching the trains together then slowing down).  Either way the concept doesn't seem all that exciting, but I do have faith in the Washington/Scott pairing so we'll have to wait and see.  Unstoppable is scheduled to start production this fall. The duo has already worked together four times since 1995, with two of those films (Crimson Tide, Man On Fire) turning out pretty damn good.  Deja Vu is the shitty exception. Their »

Denzel In Talks for 'Unstoppable' With Tony Scott

I like both Denzel Washington and Tony Scott, but looking over the previous three films they made together only Crimson Tide moves me in an real way as Man On Fire was a mess in my opinion and Deja Vu was decent, but forgettable. The actor and director team again this summer for the needless remake The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 for Columbia Pictures on June 12 and if talks work out they may be tied to the rails again before you know it. Variety reports Washington is in talks to star in Scott's thriller Unstoppable for Fox in which Washington would play an experienced engineer who jumps in a locomotive with a young conductor to chase down a runaway train carrying a cargo of toxic chemicals. The script was penned by Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard) and is loosely inspired by a true event. The film would mark the »
