Bryce Dallas Howard Joins Matt Damon in Clint Eastwood’s Supernatural Thriller, Hereafter

21 hours ago | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Bryce Dallas Howard is no stranger to supernatural thrillers, having starred in M. Night Shyamalan's The Village and Lady in the Water. This time around it looks like she's joining Matt Damon and High Tension star Cecile de France in Clint Eastwood's next project, Hereafter. Written by Peter Morgan (The Last King of Scotland, The Queen), the film "tells the story of three people -- a blue-collar American, a French journalist and a London school boy — who are touched by death in different ways." Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall, and Peter Morgan are among the executive producers. The film will apparently take place across Hawaii, San Francisco, London, and Paris. Thierry Neuvic (Tell No One) and Mylène Jampanoï will join the cast for the French portions. This looks like a decent change of pace for Eastwood, assuming it actually deals with the supernatural. Further plot details (see below) have made »

Variety reports that Bryce Dallas Howard (The Village, Terminator: Salvation) will join Matt Damon and Cecile de France (High Tension) in The Hereafter.

Clint Eastwood's supernatural drama was penned by Peter Morgan, and tells the story of three people -- a blue-collar American, a French journalist and a London school boy — who are touched by death in different ways. Hereafter will be produced by Eastwood, Kathleen Kennedy and Robert Lorenz. Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall, Peter Morgan and Tim Moore are the exec producers.

Filming is set to take place in Paris, London, Hawaii and San Francisco. Howard will next be seen in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, taking over the role of Victoria from Rachelle Lefevre.

Bryce Dallas Howard Goes Supernatural for Eastwood

10 December 2009 9:30 PM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Bryce Dallas Howard has joined Clint Eastwood's next movie, the supernatural drama Hereafter, says Variety. She will star alongside Matt Damon in the Peter Morgan-penned story of three people -- a blue-collar American, a French journalist and a London school boy -- who are each touched by death in different ways. As we reported in early November, the film will also star High Tension's Cecile de France. The plot will also have something to do with the Tsunamis of 2004. Howard adds to an already solid cast, but that doesn't necessarily give us hope. Having just watched Invictus, I'm skeptical as to what Eastwood the director has left to say. Though, I'm interested to see him take on a thriller, as its something new. And something new could be good for a career that has decidedly gone stale. The film is currently shooting, with a release penciled in for sometime in 2010. »

Coroner’s Report: The 15 Best Horror Movies of the Decade

10 December 2009 5:51 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Editor's Note: Please enjoy this very special decade in review edition of The Coroner's Report, our excellent weekly horror column written by Robert Fure. The first thought one has when asked to compose a list of the best of anything for an entire decade is "Oh shit."  Not necessarily because it's going to be hard, but because you actually have to work at it.  It's kind of hard to crap out a relevant "Best of the Decade" without actually reviewing the decade.  Once one overcomes that, they must then contend with "What is the best?"  Not "what are the best" but what is.  What qualifies a movie to the point that we stamp it the best of an entire decade?  Is it the one I enjoyed the most or the one that was the most meaningful? Do I get to put Freddy vs Jason on this list or not?  What I decided was something of an inbetweener »

10 Examples Of A Pulse In The Modern Slasher

3 December 2009 8:17 PM, PST | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

After the 80's passed it seemed that - for the most part - the slasher craze had finally come to a rest. Successful franchises like Halloween, Nightmare On Elm Street and Friday The 13th had been siphoned beyond emptiness and any intrigue the sub genre once offered appeared dead and buried. Then 1996 rolled around and Wes Craven, Kevin Williamson and Neve Campbell reminded us that good directing, storytelling, and acting is alive and well with the surprise hit Scream.

The next couple of years provided a massive batch of 'fresh' copycats and a handful of Scream sequels. Very few of any are remotely near noteworthy (quick nod to I Know What You Did Last Summer in order to avoid the onslaught of negative commentary from the obsessed Sarah Michelle Gellar fans out there J ), though Scream 2 remains a memorable franchise installment based solely on the unexpected axing of series favorite Randy (Jamie Kennedy) Meeks. »

2 December 2009 2:00 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

The fantastic friend of quality films that is the Genesis Cinema in Whitechapel has brought to our attention that they are again showing some classic films and hosting some brilliant sounding events in the coming month due to the success of their excellent 80’s film series back in October and it’s all starting off with the special screening of the classic Coen Brothers film ‘The Big Lebowski’.

Big Lebowski is a phenomenal film and my favourite film of all time, it’s also created one of the biggest cult followings spawning the Lebowski-Fest Festivals which celebrates all things Lebowski and also the creation of the religion of Dudeism.

This film should not be missed on the big screen as it may change your life!

So get down to the Genesis Cinema, 93-95 Mile End Road, Whitechapel on the 10th December at 8:30pm to witness this film and if »

Clint Eastwood’s Hereafter Takes on Death, Adds High Tension Star

10 November 2009 2:36 PM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Clint Eastwood is less than a month from releasing his next film, Invictus, which stars Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman in a story about Nelson Mandela and the South African rugby team. But as we found out last year when Eastwood unleashed Changeling and Gran Torino, he's not satisfied with just one movie per year. He has also begun working on his next film, Hereafter. This new project will also star Matt Damon and will take on the subject of death, and how it affects different people in different ways. According to a report last night from Variety, it will also now star High Tension heroine Cecile de France. As for the exact story, I will leave that to a report from The Guardian: The film tells three parallel stories that eventually intersect – about a French TV journalist, played by Cecile de France, who suffers a near-death experience during the Asian tsunami of 2004; a drug-addicted English single »

High Tension’s Cecile de France Joins Eastwood’s Hereafter

10 November 2009 11:32 AM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Clint Eastwood works fast. He had two films out last year, Changeling and Gran Torino. He's got Invictus opening next month, but is already shooting his next picture, called Hereafter. That one, written by Peter Morgan, is one we haven't reported on too much yet, but features Matt Damon in a story of "of three people who are touched by death in different ways." We'd heard but hadn't reported that Cecile de France, the violent lead from High Tension, would be part of the film as well. Now that's confirmed by the trades, so I'm using the report as an excuse to bring us all up to date on the film. Variety has the casting report. The Playlist had actually pegged that last month, along with the casting of Thierry Neuvic (Tell No One) and Mylène Jampanoï for the French part of the production. Update on Eastwood’s Hereafter: De France Joins, Plot Details

10 November 2009 10:55 AM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Clint Eastwood’s Invictus is only a few months away, and already he has begun shooting his next project, Hereafter, scheduled for a December 2010 release. According to Variety, Belgium actress Cecile de France, who has starred in movies such as High Tension and Russian Dolls, has joined a cast that already includes Matt Damon. Hereafter is a supernatural thriller in the same fashion as Sixth Sense. First Showing did some digging and found a plot synopsis from The Guardian. The story follows three parallel tracks, first with de France’s French TV journalist who nearly dies in the 2004 Asian tsunami, then Lyndsey Marshal as a drug-addicted mother who loses a son in a car accident, and finally Matt Damon as the reluctant medium who can contact the other side. The tsunami aspect sounds like it would offer the most interesting horror angle: I think that just about everybody has a very inherent fear of drowning. »

New Ultra-Gory Pics from Piranha 3D

10 November 2009 10:26 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

When I first heard that Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes, Haute Tension) was writing and directing a remake of the classic 70’s Joe Dante film Piranha, I thought “Hmmm. This could be a good thing.” Then I read that he was doing it in 3D and I thought “Dang! I thought this could be a good thing; guess I was wrong.”

The remake, cleverly titled Piranha 3D, is set in the fictional location of Lake Victoria during spring break (think Lake Havasu), and after a underwater earthquake releases a prehistoric flesh-eating fish, “an unlikely group of strangers must band together to stop themselves from becoming fish food for the area’s new razor-toothed residents.” Sherriff Julie Forester must risk all that she loves and knows to destroy the piranha “save the lake and her family from totally being devoured.”

Piranha 3D stars Elizabeth Shue as Sherriff Julie Forester, along with Steve R. »

DeFrance and Damon Join Clint Eastwood’s ‘Hereafter’

10 November 2009 5:39 AM, PST | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

The Informant himself, Matt Damon, will be joining forces with Belgian actress Cecile De France to star in director Clint Eastwood’s “supernatural drama” titled Hereafter.

Written by Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, Bond 23), Hereafter centers around “three people who are touched by death in different ways. De France, whose credits include High Tension and Russian Dolls, will portray a French journalist who has a near-death experience.”

The film began production last month, and will continue to film all across the world in  Paris, London, San Francisco and Hawaii. Don’t expect to see Hereafter come to light until December of next year.

Personally, I’m excited to see Eastwood branch out from the real world a bit and try his hand at something new. Ideally, though, he’d direct himself in a remake of Every Which Way But Loose. That would be brilliant.
