About six months ago, we reported on Jason Statham being cast in the remake of the 1972 action crime-thriller, The Mechanic, about a hitman who takes on an apprentice. At the time there was word that the remake would be a remake in name only, and the story would be changed to a modern-day spy thriller. However, with the latest casting news, it appears the story will be pretty similar if not the same as the original.
Promising news, I say.
Variety is reporting that Donald Sutherland and Ben Foster (Pandorum, X-Men: The Last Stand) are set to co-star with Statham in The Mechanic remake, which is set to be directed by Simon West (Con Air - one of my favorites, Fyi ) from a screenplay by Karl Gajdusek. Foster is set to play Statham’s hitman apprentice, Steve McKenna (the original role was played by Jan-Michael Vincent), and Sutherland will play »

Bruce Willis is actually two people. Superman Bruce is the cocksure, single-minded hardass who plays high-ranking military officers, professional hitmen, and world-rescuing oil drillers; he ruined Die Hard 4. Everyman Bruce is the emotionally bruised anxiety case who plays divorced alcoholics, blue-collar joes, and former heroes gone to seed; for me, he made Die Hard 3 the last great '90s action film, pre-Matrix. Both men are featured prominently in Surrogates, a documentary about career schizophrenia which opens this Friday. Okay, Surrogates is really a sci-fi shoot-em-up. But we can agree that there's a clear divide running throughout Willis' career between the action-god star persona seen in movies like Armageddon, Hostage, and Hart's War, and the messy, emotionally traumatizing performances he gave in films like 12 Monkeys, Pulp Fiction, and In Country. Based on the trailer, it seems that Surrogates is intentionally addressing this contrast. I certainly wouldn't put it past director Jonathan Mostow, »

Anyone who knows anything about "Twilight" scribe Stephenie Meyer knows that the vampire-spawning writer has eclectic taste in music. Earlier this year, she blogged about what she did all summer, which included listening to bands you may or may not know like Meese and White Rabbits, as well as some you might, like Muse, Animal Collective and Silversun Pickups.
She's posted suggested playlists for fans of her book series that includes everything from Placebo, Blue October and Armor for Sleep to Elbow, Coldplay, Patrick Wolf, Simon and Garfunkel, Korn, Incubus, Nine Inch Nails and Right Said Fred.
On Monday, the track listing for the upcoming soundtrack to "New Moon" was revealed and it has the same mix of the popular and somewhat-obscure that fans »

Bruce Willis and Demi Moore's daughter Rumer Willis wants to star in a movie with her famous parents - now she has grown up and gained some acting experience.
The 21 year old has embarked on her own Hollywood career appearing in a string of movies, including upcoming horror remake Sorority Row, and filming a role in teen TV show 90210.
She appeared alongside her actress mum in 1996 film Striptease, and with her dad in The Whole Nine Yards in 2000 and in 2005's Hostage.
But Willis now wants to star with her parents in a more challenging role.
She says, "Sometimes I think we helped each other by playing opposite each other. When my dad has to do a super-emotional scene, he looks at a picture of us to find the emotion. Playing his kidnapped daughter in Hostage meant he didn't have to look at the picture to get kind of tearful.
"I'd love to work with my parents again, now that I'm older. I'd love to play someone other than their daughter." »

Earlier this year, a sci-fi horror-thriller by the name of Pandorum popped firmly onto our radar when the insanely creepy poster and thrilling trailer were released for it. Another Pandorum poster soon followed that was equally as creepy as the first, and last month a full trailer for the film was released, which put it firmly on the list of anticipated films for 2009.
To promote Pandorum, actor Ben Foster (3:10 to Yuma, X-Men: The Last Stand) and few of the film’s other stars made an appearance at the Fangoria Weekend of Horrors, where an interview with Foster revealed more about the film. Courtesy of io9, here is some of what Ben Foster had to say:
io9 - “Ben, what was it about this character that appealed to you?”
Ben Foster - “I liked the idea of not remembering who you are. And having to get back to a primitive reaction. »

Robert Knepper, best known for portraying the colorful villain T-Bag on Fox’s Prison Break, has joined the cast of NBC’s Heroes. The actor will once again play a baddie on the series’ upcoming fourth season. In at least six episodes of the season, Knepper will play Samuel, a Jim Jones type -- charismatic but evil, with a twisted sense of humor -- who will veer into the lives of all heroes. The character had been referred to as "Carnival Barker" in the series breakdown released last month. Heroes is slated to return in the fall for a Lost-style all-original run in a new time slot at 8 p.m. on Mondays. The sci-fi drama -- which enjoys a strong online following -- will share its time period with another fan favorite, Chuck, which will take over in midseason. Production on the new season is scheduled to begin later this week. »

A while back it was announced that Summit Entertainment had picked up the rights to a graphic novel by Warren Ellis called Red. Although I haven't read it, I'm always interested to hear about any Warren Ellis property being optioned, and I'm even more interested now that Bruce Willis is in talks to star. According to The Hollywood Reporter [1], Red is one of a couple action movies that have recently been offered to Willis. He would play retired CIA assassin Paul Moses who is "forced back into the game to gain revenge on the agency that trained him". Bourne anyone? The screenplay is being written by Erich and Jon Hoeber (Whiteout) with Richard Donner is reportedly on the short list of directors being considered. Another less likely project for Bruce Willis is Antoine Fuqua's Scarpa, a biopic about the FBI informant who went undercover to help bust the New York Columbo family. »
