After offering up his theatrical cut and the alternate Director’s Cut prepared for DVD that ran 8 minutes shorter, Oliver Stone takes one last pass at his old-fashioned epic with new Hollywood tools and 21st century sexuality. Colin Farrell (under a bleached mop of hair) stars as the Macedonian king who becomes the ancient world’s greatest conqueror and a far-sighted benevolent dictator, Angelina Jolie is his exotic, ruthlessly ambitious mother and Val Kilmer is his savage father. This time through, Stone adds almost 40 minutes of additional footage (plus an intermission) and declares that "For me, this is the complete Alexander, the clearest interpretation I can offer." Jared Leto, Rosario Dawson, Christopher Plummer, and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers co-stars, with Anthony Hopkins as the historian/narrator, Ptolemy.
