'90210' Debut Brought The CW Rating Records

4 September 2008 12:02 AM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

"90210" has given The CW a wider target market with its pilot episodes on Tuesday, September 2. The continuation of the '90s popular series "Beverly Hills 90210" absorbed 4.91 million viewers with 4.3 million for its women 18-34, the most that the network has come up with in the demographic.

When it was aired at 8:00 P.M, the series builds its momentum to go up steadily from 4.54 to 5.14 million by the second hour. Furthermore, with 2.6 rating in the adults 18-49, "90210" easily slips as CW's highest scorer so far and also outperforms other similar teen scripted series such as "Gilmore Girls", "Dawson's Creek" and "The O.C." in the women 18-34.

"Our strategy was to be able to get out ahead of the other networks," CW Entertainment's Dawn Ostroff said. "It gives us a chance to get the shows exposed to a wider audience. It's been challenging for us to compete with everyone launching at the same time.

Josh Schwartz

3 September 2008 9:04 PM, PDT | From avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news

At age 26, a precocious USC film-school dropout named Josh Schwartz became the youngest show-runner in network-television history when Fox gambled on his primetime soap opera The O.C. Though it owed something to the trail blazed by the likes of Melrose Place and Dawson's Creek, the show distinguished itself through a savvy mix of teen angst and snappy banter, juicy class-driven conflicts, a great alt-rock soundtrack, and adult characters who were just as well-drawn as the kids. After four seasons, The O.C. faded away, and Schwartz returned as co-creator on two new shows launched in fall 2007. Pitched as The Office meets Alias, NBC's Chuck (which Schwartz created alongside his USC buddy Chris Fedak) stars Zachary Levi as a wimpy tech geek who becomes an accidental James Bond when an encoded e-mail from an old friend in the CIA embeds spy secrets into his brain. 'Gossip Girl' Adds Two New Characters

3 September 2008 8:10 PM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

"Gossip Girl", which increased its demographic of women 18 to 34 by 10 per cent on its second season premiere on Monday (September 1), is adding two new cast to create more story twist. The fresh bloods are Willa Holland who was previously cast in "The O.C." and John Patrick Amedori who once made a cameo in "Ghost Whisperer".

Willa will play Agnes who works her way to become a 16-year-old model for Elanor Waldorf Designs. Her character is slated to mess up with Jenny Humphrey, played by Taylor Momsen, who after the first season learned the hard way of being humble. Agnes who is said to appear in at least three episodes, will give the negative effects in Jenny's life.

Meanwhile, John will be on the other side, playing Aaron Rose who becomes the new love interest of Blake Lively's character Serena van der Woodsen. In the novel version, Aaron is known

Barton Checked Into Rehab After Drink Driving Arrest

2 September 2008 6:29 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actress Mischa Barton has revealed she secretly checked into rehab after her drink driving arrest last year.

The former The O.C. star was arrested on suspicion of DUI in December, and was sentenced to 36 months on probation, alcohol education classes and a fine after pleading guilty to charges this spring.

And now Barton has revealed she punished herself over the lapse in judgment by locking herself up at an unnamed rehab clinic in a bid to prove to herself and the authorities she was not a drunk.

She tells Marie Claire's UK edition, "I wanted to prove to the court that I would take it completely seriously, so I went to rehab to prove I was sober.

"It really helped in getting the more serious aspects of my case dropped because, you know, that's what they want to hear; you're not an alcoholic and you don't have a problem. So I did it in the most low-key way possible - I didn't make a fuss about it and I didn't tell a lot of my friends. I just did the program and got through it."

And she's still angry with herself for driving while over the limit.

She adds, "The thing is, I hate drunk drivers. Living in L.A., I can't stand them, and that's why I was so disappointed in myself. It's so not worth it when you put other lives at risk."

Are Studios Finally Learning Fanboys are a Waste of Time?

21 August 2008 12:52 AM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

Hey V, thumbs up to anarchy!

Photo: David Frank/RopeofSilicon.com Can one article at The Hollywood Reporter alone spearhead a movement to put control back in the filmmaker's hands and leave the fanboy wet dream out of the process entirely? Just getting back from Comic Con last week took me four days to readjust to normal life. I was on geek overload even though I did my absolute very best to maintain my sanity. It began with 14-year-old girls yelling and screaming as the cast of Twilight was announced and it ended with a party with fellow online website owners hanging with the stars and drinking alcohol on a rooftop at the Hard Rock Hotel. It was certainly a whirlwind and it takes some serious getting used to. Previewed at Comic Con were titles such as Watchmen and Terminator Salvation. One isn't due in theaters until March of 2009 and the other until May.

'Terminator Salvation' Title Holds Plot Secret

20 August 2008 7:30 PM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

While many are still trying to gather more bits about the storyline of the latest "Terminator" installment, "Terminator Salvation", from any where they can, one particular place possibly missed out is from the title itself. Talking about the forthcoming action movie, director McG hinted that the title of the movie means more than a mere designation.

To MTV News, the 40-year-old filmmaker suggested that the "Salvation" in "Terminator Salvation" withholds a broad message of the second chance human gets after the apocalypse. "Even though we may sin, ultimately we deserve a second chance," explained McG. It is then explained that the using of the title to decipher the plot is similar to "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" when the "Judgment Day" became the shorthand of the apocalypse.

Teasing further, the director known for his works in television series, including "The O.C.", "Supernatural" and "Chuck" shared that the title refers to the actions of a specific character.

Melissa Rosenberg chats 'Twilight' adaptation

19 August 2008 5:17 PM, PDT | From screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news

The guys over at ShockTillYouDrop.com recently sat down and chatted with Melissa Rosenberg, who adapted Stephenie Meyer's acclaimed novel "Twilight" for the big screen. In the interview you can read right here, Rosenberg talks about how she ended up with the project and what challenges she encountered during the writing process.

Here is a quick snippet from the interview:

"It was less trimming the fat and more condensing it. There are a lot of conversations that play well obviously in the book, less so on the screen - the sitting and talking scenes, I mean. The essence of it, you distill it down to the essence of those character's emotional arcs and still hit the same points to move the story forward and stay true to the book."Rosenberg's writing credits also include Anne Fletcher's 2006 surprise hit "Step Up." She also worked as co-executive producer on several

DVD Review - 'Gossip Girl: The Complete First Season'

19 August 2008 12:51 AM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

Welcome to the world of New York City’s young and privileged Upper East Side. From The O.C. creator Josh Schwartz comes Gossip Girl, based on the popular novels by Cecily von Ziegesar. Fortunately, you don’t have to be familiar with the books to enjoy the series; Gossip Girl quickly possesses you with its seemingly endless glitz and glamour, the traditional markings of Old Money.

The premise for this teen drama is simple enough: Notorious and anonymous blogger Gossip Girl, voiced by Kristen Bell, is our one and only source into the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s prep school elite. Think TMZ-style paparazzi made up of teenagers with camera phones and bad attitudes.

Spotted: former It girl, Serena van der Woodson (Blake Lively) is back from boarding school after being gone for a year. But why did she leave so abruptly and why has she returned? More importantly, why

'O.C.' Star Shines Tonight in MTV's 'The American Mall'

11 August 2008 1:00 AM, PDT | From buddytv.com | See recent BuddyTV news

Whoever thought that the High School Musical is nearly over is dead wrong.  In fact, the overly successful Disney movie is hitting the big screen soon, with the film being released in October.  Now MTV is getting into the game with The American Mall, a new movie musical premiering tonight at 9pm.

Tired of the same old cheesy inspirational songs and love duets in the youthful High School Musical? Don’t give up just yet. MTV's The American Mall is an edgier, sexier version.  In fact, the setting of the movie is not in high school, but—you guessed it—at a typical American mall, where the older crowd go for retail therapy and relaxation while hanging out with their friends.  So what exactly separates this film from the gigantically successful High School Musical (aside from its setting)?

"We deal with more adult issues," said Blythe Auffarth, one of the movie musical's hot young stars.

Barton: 'I Hate Drunk Drivers'

31 July 2008 11:59 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actress Mischa Barton was left disgusted with herself after her drink driving arrest last year - because she reviles drunk drivers.

The former The O.C star pleaded guilty to a DUI in April and was sentenced to three years probation following her arrest in December.

And the star was keen to head to rehab to show she was truly ashamed of her actions - because she wanted to distance herself from the association of fellow drunk drivers.

She tells Britain's Marie Claire magazine, "The thing is, I hate drunk drivers. Living in L.A., I can't stand them, and that's why I was so disappointed in myself. I wanted to prove to the court that I would take it completely seriously, so I went to rehab to prove I was sober.

"It really helped in getting the more serious aspects of my case dropped because, you know, that's what they want to hear: you're not an alcoholic, and you don't have a problem."

And the actress believes a lot of young Hollywood star's problems stem from the fact they are hounded by the media - insisting the gossip press can send stars "crazy".

She explains, ""I don't look at the gossip web sites - it's unhealthy, and I think it's a large part of what drives people in L.A. crazy."

Barton Denies Agency Axe

25 July 2008 5:18 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Former The O.C. star Mischa Barton has denied she was dropped by her agent because she hasn't landed any big roles since leaving the hit TV show.

The actress was rumoured to have been dropped by the Creative Artists Agency (CAA) - which represents stars including Drew Barrymore and Natalie Portman - after failing to land any high profile acting jobs.

She has now joined New York-based Paradigm Agency and a representative for the star insists she made the switch voluntarily.

The spokesperson tells New York Post gossip column PageSix, "Mischa left CAA - she was not dropped."

Living Life in the 'Fastlane'... A DVD Review

The Candy Store

Photo: Warner Home Video I started creating RopeofSilicon.com in 2003, but one year before that a little show called "Fastlane" premiered on Fox, and while it did worm its way into the first four months of 2003 that was where it died. The self-described "adult music video" has the look of C.S.I. Miami in all its warm color blasted neon, a soundtrack reserved for '90s MTV and enough female ass and sexual innuendo to make for a kick ass time. That's right folks, the "complete" series DVD set of "Fastlane" was not sent to me with the hope that I may cover it. Nope, I requested this bad boy as this is one of those guilty pleasures I was always sorry it gotten taken off the air. Tiffani and Peter had a good working relationship...

9 June 2008 12:00 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

The actress found fame starring alongside Mischa Barton on the hit drama, which came to an end in 2007.

Recent reports suggested creator Josh Schwartz was planning a feature-length version - but it's the first Bilson has heard of it.

She tells AOL Movies, "No. I had somebody else ask me that because of 'Sex and the City' the movie, but I was like, 'No.'"

29 May 2008 9:14 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actress Mischa Barton has fuelled reports she is unhappy with her new movie You And I, after reportedly refusing to promote it.

The former The O.C. star initially sparked rumours of her dissatisfaction when she failed to attend the film's premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in France earlier this month.

She insisted she "was never due to go", but now You And I director Roland Joffe cannot locate Barton in London to complete promo duties in the British capital.

He tells New York gossip column PageSix, "She hasn't pulled out of interviews, she's pulled out of everything... Her room is here, she is here, but trying to get the two together has just been impossible. We just don't know where Mischa is."

In the film, Barton plays a Russian lesbian who falls in love at a t.A.T.u concert.

Barton Regrets "Stupid" DUI Arrest

11 January 2008 | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actress Mischa Barton has dismissed her recent driving under the influence arrest as a "stupid" mistake. The former The OC star, 21, was taken into police custody on December 27 after West Hollywood cops pulled her car over for driving erratically. She was arrested on suspicion of DUI, but was also booked for possession of narcotics and driving on a suspended license. And Barton insists she is full of regret for her actions. Speaking on radio host Ryan Seacrest's show on Thursday morning, she said: "I was pulled over and obviously, I'm 100 percent responsible for my actions in this case. I'm really disappointed in myself. I'm not perfect and I don't intend to do anything this stupid again." The star is currently free on $10,000 bail.
