Parents Guide for
Elephant (2003) More at IMDbPro »

The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, that you instead use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

A guy kisses his girlfriend. The girlfriend ackowledges that her upcoming "appointment" might have something to do with their recent camping trip.

You see a girl showering in the background of a locker room (rear nudity).

We see two boys kiss in the shower (presumably because neither had been kissed before), filmed from the waist up.

Violence & Gore

One boy throws spitballs at another while the teacher's back is turned.

A boy plays a video game in which the object is to shoot people in the back.

A girl is shot at the face; blood and gore splatter behind her.

A boy is shot when he steps out of the classroom. The teacher drags him back into the classroom leaving a bloody trail.

A man is shot four times as he tries to escape.

Two boys are shot in the chest.

Several other teens are gunned down (seen from a distance). We see several corpses as the camera glides across rooms and down hallways.

Profanity

Hardly any during the first 3/4 of the movie. There are at least eleven uses of the F-word and five uses of the S-word along with a few profanities and other vulgar expressions.

One student's father is drunk while driving him to school. He swerves all over the road and sideswipes a car. We are later told the father is an alcoholic.

Two student workers sneak into the caffeteria cooler and smoke what looks like pot.

The shooting sequence (the last fifteen minutes) is such an abrupt shift in tone that it could be even more disturbing than a description might indicate.
