Last week we wrote that Johns Hopkins would welcome the crew of "The Social Network" this week as they'd be filming in front of some of the dorms. Today photos of the shooting are rolling in from Twitpic including shots of Eamon Brooks and Jesse Eisenberg, two of the film's main characters. [ read more ]

Though she’s busy battling aliens in the new ABC drama V and will pop up again on Lost this season, Elizabeth Mitchell is carving out some time to shoot a movie too: She'll star in the indie ensemble drama Answers to Nothing, EW.com has confirmed. In the film, which is set against the backdrop of a child abduction chase and focuses on lost Angelenos in search of redemption, Mitchell is a woman consumed by her desire to have a baby with her husband (Dane Cook). “Playing a hormonal woman whose marriage is shaky and who has lost her »

There is a special place in American cinema reserved for a certain variety of self-doubting, sexually clumsy, hyperintellectual young man. Perhaps it was Woody Allen who first carved out a niche in film for men nursing this particular cocktail of neuroses. Whatever its origins, the archetype exists, and for a new generation of movie fans, actor Jesse Eisenberg appears to have taken awkward, unsteady hold of the baton. (Of course—these guys are never athletic.)
Born in Queens, New York, and raised in New Jersey, the 26-year-old Eisenberg began performing professionally as a teen, and even did a run on Broadway in a 1996 revival of the Tennessee Williams play Summer and Smoke. But it’s Eisenberg’s film work—punctuated by performances in Dylan Kidd’s Roger Dodger (2002), Noah Baumbach’s The Squid and the Whale (2005), and this year’s Adventureland (in which he co-starred alongside this issue’s cover girl, »

It’s hardly surprising that the Londoners in Noah And The Whale decided to make a movie to accompany their second album, The First Days Of Spring: Their band name mashes up a favorite film and its director (Noah Baumbach’s The Squid And The Whale), and there’s a pervasive sense of Wes Anderson’s corduroy coats all over their records. But the star of this show is clearly the music, not the amateur-ish mumblecore travelogue that accompanies it. The First Days Of Spring removes the playful elements of 2008’s Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down, whose “5 ... »

I keep hearing the words "zombie revival" touted around the place with regards to Ruben Fleischer's debut film. With a load of solid Zombie films made over this decade is it really that much of a revival? It's been devastating the box office in the USA over the last few weeks and its sure to do the same in the UK. But is the film, which walks strongly in the footsteps of Shaun of the Dead, deserved of its revenue and seemingly almost universal critical acclaim? Neurotic loner Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) sets up the United States of Zombieland in his hilarious, dry and mumbling introduction, delivering the back story and a small set of survival rules (fasten seat belt, stay away from bathrooms, and the brilliant "double tap" rule) which he has devised, in such a concise and beautifully crafted and blood splattered way that its had not to »

I hate zombies, but Zombieland discovers that inspired casting, strong characters and reliable laughs can result in a great story.
Let me admit this up front: I hate zombies. I hate movies about zombies. I hate how popular zombies have become. I hate that zombies are touted as awesome villains when they're just mindless automatons. Hardly a compelling antagonist. Blood oozing from zombie mouths just doesn't up the ante for me.
Hence my zombie movie embargo. My Zombargo.
But here's what I loved about Zombieland: The zombies are (properly) relegated to being just part of the setting — like The Woods or New Jersey.
Once they're out of the way, the film's real story gets to shine, and that story properly focuses on four well-defined characters who remain nameless for most of the movie, except for the places from which they hail:
Tallahassee (Florida, for the geographically challenged), played by Woody Harrelson;Columbus, »

I'm not one for that weird horror/comedy genre. I really did not enjoy Sam Raimi's Drag Me To Hell. And there are very few exceptions to this rule for me (see: Dead Snow). But director Ruben Fleischer could really change my mind, in a big way. His feature-length directorial debut, Zombieland, is hilarious, and breathes new life into the zombie genre just when it needed the most (the vampires have been leading the game for years now).
The premise is like most zombie films: most of the world dies, survivors deal with zombies. The film is narrated by Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg). He's an introverted gamer with irritable bowel syndrome who chooses to spend his weekends at home playing World of War »

After years of critically acclaimed performances in movies like The Squid and the Whale and The Education of Charlie Banks, Jesse Eisenberg has finally begun working steadily this year with the release of Adventureland and, out today, Zombieland. He also recently earned a place as one of our Best of What's Next actors. We caught up with Eisenberg and spoke with him about breaking into acting, how lucky he’s been with his roles, and why he still likes to work in theater. »

Reading about the health care reform battle has gotten depressing — except for that awesome Florida congressman who basically told the Republicans to cram it with walnuts when they demanded he apologize for saying the crux of the Gop health plan was "die quickly" — so let’s talk about movies for a bit.
Drew Barrymore makes a crowd-pleasing debut as a director with Whip It, an entertaining saga about a mousy teen (Juno’s Ellen Page) in small-town Texas who blossoms when she lies about her age and joins an Austin roller derby team.
In a year that's given us such awful movies like The Ugly Truth and All About Steve, finally here’s a chick flick that doesn’t seem to hate chicks.
The socko supporting cast includes Barrymore, Kristen Wiig, Juliette Lewis, Alia Sawkat (Arrested Development), Zoë Bell, Eve and Oscar-winner Marcia Gay Harden.

For 25 year old actor Jesse Eisenberg--who was awarded lots of attention for his troubled teenager in The Squid and The Whale--becoming a zombie-killing machine offers a curious shift in gears. Interspersed with his first-person voiceover as the wussy Columbus, Zombieland spotlights two survivors who forge an uneasy alliance to live in a world destroyed by a plague that turns nearly everyone into zombies. Both are trying to get east to see if anyone is free of the infection. The multiweapon-toting, bad-ass Tallahassee (the darkly funny Woody Harrelson) distrusts bonding as much as he hates zombies--but that's only because he doesn't want to pummel a friend if they've morphed into the living dead. At first bamboozled by sisters Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin), they establish a relationship with this duo to form a dysfunctional and desperate ersatz... »

Could Jesse Eisenberg, the gawky kid from Adventureland and The Squid and the Whale, be on the verge of breakout star status? I'd say yes, after watching him on last night's Conan (check out the clip after the jump). The 25-year-old did a great job of plugging his new movie Zombieland, earning big laughs from the crowd with a few of his nervous jokes. And through it all, he reminded me of some other famous people. Here's the breakdown: Woody Allen - 60% The New York accent, the nebbishy stutter, the self-deprecating zingers: all classic Allen. Michael Cera - 30% Cera and »

A brand new Fantastic Mr. Fox trailer has been released, and it looks great! In case you were complaining about the last one, this feels like a “real” movie trailer. There’s also a new featurette about the film and both are getting me more excited about the upcoming movie!
The new preview features a whole lot more information about the story, which is based on Roald Dahl’s classic tale that co-writer/director Wes Anderson (Rushmore) fell in love with as a kid. It gives us even more funny and touching moments than the first Fantastic Mr. Fox trailer.
Watch and enjoy:
There’s also a few more of Anderson’s trademark directorial touches, like the diagram explaining how “Whack Bat” works as Owen Wilson (Coach Skip) talks. All in all, a great second trailer with plenty of laughs that I think will send people to theaters when it opens in November. »

Since bursting onto the indie scene in 2002's Rodger Dodger, Jesse Eisenberg has cornered the market of vulnerable adolescent males. He's boldly navigated the treacherous terrains of divorce in The Squid and the Whale, campus bullydom in The Education of Charlie Banks, and teen midway love in Adventureland. But his most formidable foe was yet to come: In the audience-pleasing Zombieland, Eisenberg battles an army of the undead alongside Woody Harrelson, Abigail Breslin and Emma Stone. We met Eisenberg recently, before it was announced that he'd landed the coveted role of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in David Fincher's The Social Network. As you'll see from our candid interview, no one could have been more shocked about his good fortune than Eisenberg himself. »
