DVD Review: ‘The Hangover’

16 December 2009 11:00 AM, PST | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

New to DVD and Blu-Ray this week is possibly one of the best comedies of the year, and definitely one of the highest grossing one’s of all time. Of course I mean the Todd Phillips’ film The Hangover, starring Bradley Cooper (Wedding Crashers), Ed Helms (The Office), Zach Galifianakis (Out Cold), and Justin Bartha (National Treasure).

Three groomsmen (Cooper, Helms, and Galifianakis) try to retrace their steps after a drunken and drug-hazed night of debauchery in Las Vegas in order to find best friend Doug (Bartha) so he can walk down the aisle at his wedding in less than 24 hours. The film is a madcap ride full of great cameos with the likes of Matt Walsh (Upright Citizens Brigade) as an ER doctor, Heather Graham (Boogie Nights) as a recently married stripper, and Ken Jeong (Community) as a Chinese mobster out to recover a bag of stolen poker chips from Doug’s pals. …

Hot on the heals of the trailer we posted earlier, Disney has now released a few high resolution photos from the new Nicolas Cage film, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice (via /Film).  The photos show Nic Cage with Alfred Molina, one with Jay Baruchel and one with his trench coat.

I actually just watched the trailer for this and it looks like it could be some cheesy fun.  If you haven’t watched the trailer yet, you can check it out here.  This film reunites Cage with the director Jon Turteltaub and producer Jerry Bruckhiemer all of who worked on National Treasure.  These guys are no strangers to action so let’s keep our fingers crossed that they deliver.

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice Trailer

9 December 2009 3:34 PM, PST | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

Another day, another remake. Yet this one looks quite cool. Nicolas Cage clearly likes mixing up his projects. He’s offered us some dark and strange characters over the years, but he’s never played a magician. Until now!

The trailer for The Sorcerer’s Apprentice has hit the web today. Nicolas Cage stars as Balthazar Blake, a mysterious and eccentric magic man who is trying to stop an evil guy called Horvath (Alfred Molina) from destroying New York. It is directed by Jon Turtletaub and Jerrry Bruckheimer. Will the re-teaming of Bruckheimer, Cage and Turtletaub be as popular as the National Treasure movies? Probably. It is loosely-based on the classic Walt Disney animation feature. Judging from the trailer it looks a slick affair with brilliant special effects. The film also stars Italian actress, Monica Bellucci. And check out Nicolas Cage’s crazy hairdo!

First Look at Disney's 'Sorcerer's Apprentice' (Trailer)

9 December 2009 3:29 PM, PST | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

By Wrap Staff

The plot sounds pretty far removed from the Fantasia short with Mickey trying to control some wayward brooms that magically come to life. In this reimagining, Cage plays a master sorcerer in modern day New York trying to protect the city from his arch nemesis (Alfred Molina). Cage and Bruckheimer are no doubt hoping it will repeat their "National Treasure" success. Disney released the film's first trailer on Wednesday.

Nic Cage Wants to Teach You the Ways of the Force. Er, Sorcery.

I have to admit, this trailer for “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” is a lot cooler than I thought it would be. Then again, it could just be the melding of techno music with all that sorcery happening onscreen. Nicolas Cage actually looks decent in the role, but there’s one thing the movie misses out on — it neglects to show us the va-va-vooming Monica Bellucci, who co-stars in the movie. Really, guys, when you have someone as gorgeous as Monica Bellucci in your movie, what are you doing Not showing her? For shame, for shame. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice Teaser Trailer is Magical

9 December 2009 6:45 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Disney has released the first official trailer for next summer’s magically epic adaptation of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, a role Mickey Mouse played the part of back in the 1940 animated movie, Fantasia. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is most commonly associated with Disney and Mickey but the story actually comes from the 18th century German poem Der Zauberlehrling written by Goethe.

Where the Fantasia scene stuck pretty close to the source material, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice seems to stray from it -- though that doesn’t mean this won’t still be a fun summer flick. Here is the official description of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice as per Disney:

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice Trailer Starring Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchel

9 December 2009 6:23 AM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

One of Disney's big tentpole flicks for next year is the live-action retelling of The Sorcerer's Apprentice, based on the original poem by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, which was also inspiration for one of the segments in the classic Disney animated film Fantasia. The film is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Jon Turtletaub (National Treasure), so there's no question that they're hoping this will be a big hit and the introduction of a potentially lucrative franchise. But is it something people that people are actually excited about? Well, that's what the first trailer is for, which just hit the web over at Apple.com [1]. The first look at the movie showcases a ton of action sequences and special effects, most of which are pretty impressive. It also sets an ominous mood with a bombastic score. Nicolas Cage plays Balthazar Blake, a sorcerer who squares off against his arch enemy, …

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice Trailer

Have you ever been curious as to what a remake of the Fantasia short starring brooms and a mouse would look like if it featured Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchel? Nope? Well here’s your chance anyway.

From the looks of this trailer, Jon Turteltaub (National Treasure) has made a family adventure film that seems surprisingly not awful. When Cage looks like he’s having even the slightest trace of fun, that’s a good sign. I don’t know if I’m “excited,” yet, but I’m much less skeptical.

Check out the trailer below. The film will be released on July 16, 2010.

Nicolas Cage: Sued By His Ex-Wife For $13 Million

9 December 2009 5:41 AM, PST | Gossipvita | See recent Gossipvita news »

Christina Fulton - mother of Cage’s son Weston, 18 – has been caught up in the furore around the star’s present financial difficulties, and is demanding the massive payment as compensation for "mental, physical and emotional abuse". Fulton claims in her lawsuit, filed yesterday (08.12.09), that in 2001 Cage bought a Los Angeles home for her and their son and pledged he would sign it over to her, which he failed to do. She only discovered this when the actor served her a 60-day notice to vacate the premises. Christina further alleges that due to negligence by Cage she is now in debt of more than $1 million to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as well as $250,000 in credit card debt, which her ex-husband had reportedly told her he would pay off. Cage’s lawyer, Martin Singer, said of the claim: “This lawsuit is ridiculous and absurd. Nicolas has given her approximately $3 million every year for many years, …

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice Trailer

The first official trailer for The Sorcerer’s Apprentice has debuted on Apple, and ignoring the crass overproduction and the peppy one-liners…well, all you have left is the visuals, which do look pretty slick. Disney went out of their way to show them off. Nicholas Cage still looks like an unclean cross between a mobster and a pimp, and Alfred Molina is only given a few brief glances but seems to slither right into the skin of whichever villainous character he plays. And while nothing can beat Mickey in sorcerer’s clothing, there is also a very cool reference near the end to the original short story that was featured in Fantasia. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, directed by Jon Turteltaub of National Treasure fame, will be in theaters July 16, 2010. …

First Trailer: The Sorcerer's Apprentice

9 December 2009 2:56 AM, PST | Screenrush | See recent Screenrush news »

The first trailer for next summer's magical adventure film The Sorcerer's Apprentice has just premiered over at Apple and it looks great.

Starring crazy Nicolas Cage as the sorcerer and Jay Baruchel as his apprentice, the film comes from the same producer/director (Jon Turteltaub/Jerry Bruckheimer) powerhouse that gave us the National Treasure films.

It's amazing that no-one had ever before thought of giving a modern twist to the classic tale of The Sorcerer's Apprentice - famously animated in a segment of Disney's Fantasia similarly based on the story originally told by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe hundreds of years ago.

As is often the case a film like this swim or sink on the quality of its cast and it looks to us as if they've got it just right, particularly with Baruchel who will almost certainly climb up the A-list after this - something we're more than happy …
