Titles contrived for Google

20 November 2009 | Cineman.ch/en | See recent Cineman.ch/en news »

Movies titles are increasingly devised to appear at the top of the list on Google. Here are a few examples. The Internet in general and Google in particular have changed the daily lives of millions of people and hundreds of thousands of businesses. And appearing at the top of the list in a search result, no matter what sector a company is active in, can mean enormous sums to any business. It's not surprising then, that movie producers are choosing their words carefully when it comes down to setting a movie's title, and are picking the most searched keywords on the Internet. These very lucrative words usually have to do with sex or violence. Here are four examples of movie titles with an added advantage: "Jennifer's Body": in addition to the word "body", the keywords describing the movie include Megan Fox, "lesbian", "naked" and "cheerleader". "Sorority Row": the »

Paul W.S. Anderson Still Making The Three Musketeers in 3-D After Resident Evil: Afterlife

17 November 2009 1:02 AM, PST | HugAZombie | See recent HugAZombie news »

Yes, it's true: Paul W.S. Anderson is going swashbuckling. After he finishes Resident Evil: Afterlife, Anderson plans to make a 3-D version of The Three Musketeers. Why? Because only the director of Death Race and Avp can really do Alexandre Dumas justice.

Afterlife producer and frequent Anderson collaborator Jeremy Bolt gave up a few details about the project, which Bolt will also produce.

The movie will be set in the 18th century but will have a "contemporary feel." Based on the book (duh), the movie will contain lots of action and romance.

Constantin Films is financing a $80 million ollar budget which will start production next September with casting starting now.

Athos, Porthos, Aramis, and D’Artagnan: best of luck. May your horses race you out of the prison and into freedom, and may you defeat the evil hunters that can sometimes turn invisible.

Fan Rant: Please Don't Let Paul W.S. Anderson Direct 'Metal Gear Solid'

15 November 2009 6:03 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Dear Sony,

As I am sure you are aware, you own the film rights to any adaptation of Metal Gear Solid, the outstanding brainchild of video game auteur Hideo Kojima. I have no doubt that since the property became a gaming icon after Konami brought it to the Playstation in 1998 many have tried to get a film adaptation off the ground. I'm sure you've heard pitch after pitch, and maybe even solicited some of your own, so I appreciate that no ground has been made on turning the beloved series - arguably the most cinematic game of all time - toward the big screen.

Yet I fear that with a big budget adaptation of Prince of Persia on the horizon, you might start getting antsy about making a big budget video game movie of your own; and if that's the case, please do not take up Paul W.S. Anderson on »

Afm Debuts First Photos and Synopses from 6 Upcoming Movies Including Manolete, Mona Lisa, Small Town Saturday Night and The Long Good Friday

12 November 2009 8:18 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

When it comes to the first photos and synopsis from upcoming films, Collider has reaped great rewards from this year’s American Film Market (Afm).  For those who don’t know, Afm is where film buyers from around the world come once a year to buy movies and also pre-buy films in development.  Simply put, this is where a lot of money changes hands in the film industry and it’s where many decisions about what you and I get to see are made.  In an effort to try and raise a film’s profile or attract film buyers, many of the studios distribute full synopses and still images for their movies.

With that in mind, we have grabbed some of those synopses and images for Manolete (starring Adrien Brody and Penelope Cruz), Mona Lisa, PearblossomSmall Town Saturday Night (starring Chris Pine), and The Long Good Friday.  Hit the »

Updates on Robert Rodriguez’s Predators

5 November 2009 4:50 PM, PST | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

The original Predator inspired more American Film Market-screened knockoffs than just about any other movie, and the word on the street here at the sales event is that the upcoming Robert Rodriguez production Predators will also jumpstart a whole new stream of human-vs.-aliens movies. And those who gotten a look at the Predators screenplay have been raving.

These sources tell Fango that this sequel ignores Predator 2 as well as both Alien Vs. Predator movies, and is a direct sequel to the Arnold Schwarzenegger-starrer. The script, by Michael Finch, Alex Litvak and Rodriguez, not only takes place on Earth, but its human characters also travel to the Predators’ planet to hunt the extraterrestrials. We will see new species—including Predator dogs!—and there’s going to be a Berserker Predator, the meanest badass of them all. And in some surprising FX news, Knb Efx’s Howard Berger and »

Next 'Alien' Will Visit Future Past

29 October 2009 9:05 PM, PDT | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

Ridley Scott talked about the Alien prequel recently, and judging from what he said, it may not be what many fans are expecting.

The original Alien, which was released in 1979 and became Scott’s first big international hit, presumably showed mankind’s first encounter with the xenomorphs — the dual-jawed, acid-spitting creatures that became the series’ antagonists. With regards to the prequel, it had been speculated the film would tell how the xenomorphs ended up on Lv-426, the planetoid where they’re eventually found by the crew of the Nostromo.

But according to Scott, he and writer Jon Spaihts are rebooting the original Alien story with a human focus, and as such, it may prove that Ellen Ripley and her crewmates weren’t the first unfortunate humans to battle the space monsters.

Scott, who spoke to Empire, also confirmed the prequel would take place several decades before Alien. However, he did promise, »

Hellboy writer to direct Mortis Rex

27 October 2009 10:02 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Variety reports that Peter Briggs (pictured) will direct the supernatural actioner Mortis Rex for Frelaine Productions. One of the producers is Jim Jacks, whose credits include the Mummy series and a few films for Sam Raimi (who named David Paymer’s Drag Me To Hell character after him).

Mortis is set in Rome circa 122 A.D. and focuses on a disgraced war hero who gets a chance to salvage his reputation when he’s assigned to investigate strange and violent killings at a garrison. The producing team also includes Stuart Pollok, Matthew Dench and Marisa Kagan; Briggs, who co-wrote the first Hellboy feature, first broke onto the screenwriting scene with a highly regarded but eventually abandoned Alien Vs. Predator spec script, and has subsequently worked on Freddy Vs. Jason and an aborted period version of The War Of The Worlds. Shooting on Mortis Rex is scheduled to start next spring on British, »

Hey Kids - It's Time to Play Poovie With Justin Long!

16 October 2009 3:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

I’ve been saying it for years, but perhaps it should be repeated one more time: The funniest person in Hollywood might just be Justin Long.

For exhibit A, check out the attached clip of a chat I had with Long about “Drag Me to Hell,” the awesome Sam Raimi thriller that hits DVD this week. During our conversation, he brought up a rude, crude, new game that might soon sweep the nation.

“I’ve been playing this movie game, it’s called Poovie,” the Mac pitchman and movie star said with a grin. “I’ll introduce it to you.”

“You come up with movie titles - you don’t change the movie titles - just straight-up movie titles that sound like they have to do with number two,” Long explained, giving us examples of some of his favorite films that also sound like someone possibly describing a bowel movement. »

Brody Becomes The Prey In New Predator Movie

7 October 2009 12:01 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Slender actor Adrien Brody will be stepping into Arnold Schwarzenegger's musclebound role in the new Predator movie.

Director Robert Rodriguez is rebooting the sci-fi movie franchise, which saw the now California governor battle a killer alien in the 1987 original.

Now, Oscar-winner Brody is set to take on a pack of the dreadlocked extra-terrestrials in the franchise's latest outing, which is set to hit cinemas in July 2010.

The Pianist star will play the leader of a fearless band of warriors, who are being hunted by the bloodthirsty Predators.

The monster has previously featured in a 1990 sequel, starring Danny Glover, as well as two spin-offs from the Alien films, 2004's Alien vs. Predator and 2007's Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem. »

Famous action star Adrien Brody enlists in ‘Predators’

7 October 2009 8:25 AM, PDT | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

In the odder side of movie news, Adrien Brody (The Pianist) has signed on to Nimrod Antal’s Predators for 20th Century Fox. The Oscar-winning actor will join Danny Trejo (Machete), Topher Grace, Alice Braga, made-up actor Mahershalalhashbaz Ali and Oleg Taktarov for the reboot of the famed ’80s action-sci-fi feature.

“When I looked at the news from The Hollywood Reporter, I just couldn’t believe my eyes. I’m a huge Adrien Brody fan. I simply adored him in The Brothers Bloom,” said Jon Mintez of the Predator Spectators Society (Psc). “In fact, if I didn’t start a Predators club, I would start a Brody club. I wish I could suckle his nostrils.” After the call I learned that the Psc had nothing to do with the line of Predator action films…

Predators will begin shooting in November in lush forests of Hawaii and at Robert Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios in Texas. »

Adrien Brody Joins Predators

7 October 2009 6:18 AM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

The infamous space Rastafarian will soon be setting his three red dot sights not only upon Danny Trejo, but also upon Adrien Brody (King Kong) and Topher Grace (Spiderman 3).

That’s right, director Nimrod Antal’s Predators, scripted and produced by Robert Rodriguez for Troublemaker Studios, seems to have gone off the deep end as far as casting decisions go — alongside Trejo, Brody, and Grace, we’ll also have Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, I Am Legend’s Alice Braga and the Ufc’s Oleg Taktarov.

The film will deal with a group of manly warriors (of which Brody is inexplicably a part) as they fight off a group of Predators, while the plot is thickened by Grace’s role as “an accountant-type whose unassuming facade masks a dangerous serial killer.”

This is definitely shaping up to be a project more akin to Rodriguez’s catalog than anything we’re familiar with in the past Predator series. »

Adrien Brody and Possibly Topher Grace Cast in Predators; Internet Becomes Concerned

6 October 2009 7:21 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

I understand the need for redemption from the “Alien vs. Predator” movies and if adding more xenomorphs made “Aliens” an action-charged flick, then adding more Predators can’t be a horrible idea.  Recent casting news seemed sensible: Danny Trejo, Walton Goggins, Alexa Braga, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali (his nickname is “Ali” although I can’t possibly imagine why he would need a nickname), and Ufc fighter Oleg Taktarov.  A team of ass-kickers, just like in the original “Predator”.  But who would lead this band of modern-day vikings?

Adrien Brody.  Because when I think “bad-ass”, I think, “Adrien Brody”.  That’s who’s leading them.  Oh, and Topher Grace may also be in the gang, also as a bad-ass.  Let this casting news sink in a bit and then hit the jump.

'Predators' Cast Begins With Adrien Brody and Topher Grace

The Hollywood Reporter has opened the door to the casting for the Robert Rodriguez produced Predators, Fox's return to the Predator franchise that began with Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1987 and recently disappointed everyone with two Alien vs. Predator films, most recently in 2007. The script for this latest version was penned by Rodriguez, Alex Litvak and Michael Finch and will be directed by Nimrod Antal (Vacancy).

The news carries some heavy weight at the top as Adriend Brody will star as a man who ends up inheriting the mantle of leader and is known as a hunter of men in the film following a group of elite warrior-types who are being hunted by members of a race of merciless alien trackers called Predators.

Joining Brody will be one-time "That '70s Show" star Topher Grace playing an accountant-type whose unassuming facade masks a dangerous serial killer; I Am Legend's Alice Braga playing »
