Review
(Hong Kong) The original hit Hong Kong crime thriller that was remade as The Departed plus the two sequels collected in a box set. Andy Lau and Tony Leung are the deep cover operatives – a crook in the police force and a cop in the mob, respectively – in Infernal Affairs (2002), Andrew Lau’s high concept crime melodrama of loyalty and sacrifice. Slick and handsome, solidly plotted, and satisfyingly cynical, it was a huge hit in Hong Kong, it spawned two sequels, both making their DVD debut here. Infernal Affairs 2 is actually a prequel which charts the early clashes between the rising crime boss (Eric Tsang) and the driven cop (Anthony Wong) soon to take on the organized crime task force, while Infernal Affairs 3, set months after the original, follows Andy Lau's corrupt cop as a new investigator goes ins search of the mole in the police department. The two sequels also available separately. See New Releases for more details.
