Yeah, Edgar Wright showed off his cast for Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World in February, but the images all featured the actors hiding behind pictures of their characters. We've gotten a few more since then, but now it's time to see the group side by side. See, Wright showed a framed still on his blog, and then /Film wonderfully Photoshopped it so that it's a dead-on look. From left to right, there's Michael Cera's Scott Pilgrim, Mary Elizabeth Winstead's Ramona Flowers, Johnny Simmons' Young Neil, Ellen Wong's Knives Chau, Alison Pill's Kim Pine, and Mark Webber's Stephen Stills.
The upcoming film features an awkward but increasingly kickass Pilgrim who has to fight for the right to Ramona Flowers by defeating all of her evil ex boyfriends with super-spiffy video game moves. And it's all set in Toronto -- in my neighbourhood (spelled with a u here!

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has finally come up with the full nominees for the 2010 Golden Globe Awards, and among those unraveled as contenders for the Globes was Sandra Bullock. In the wee hours of Tuesday, December 15, the actress who had been nominated for the awards two times before was revealed to have got two nods.
The 45-year-old was given a Best Actress in a Drama nomination for her performance in "The Blind Side". She has been nominated for the latter nomination twice before for "Miss Congeniality" and for "While You Were Sleeping".
While Bullock stood out in the performers category, "Up in the Air" dominated the nominations in the movie category with six nominations including for Best Motion Picture. It overshadowed "Nine", which collected five,

Bioware is one company that takes its voiceover work seriously. For Star Wars: The Old Republic, Bioware hired over 100 actors to voice over 40 novels worth of written material. And now Bioware has announced that it has hired several top-notch voice actors for the heavily-anticipated sci-fi sequel, Mass Effect 2.
Dr. Ray Muzyka, co-founder of Bioware and Group General Manager of the RPG/Mmo Group of EA, reasoned that,
“[e]motionally engaging narrative is a key design pillar for Bioware, and the top-notch voice talent in Mass Effect 2 helps drive this goal. Credible, powerful personalities are vital to delivering a compelling story experience in Bioware’s games, and we have assembled an amazing ensemble cast that surpasses the very high bar set in the original Mass Effect!”
Martin Sheen (The West Wing, Apocalypse Now) stars as the mysterious Illusive Man who commands Cerberus, a secretive paramilitary organization dedicated to protecting human interests in the galaxy.

Is Avatar the Timeliest Movie of the Year?

As we hurry up and wait for a clearer picture of the ten-nominee Best Picture race to emerge, a key concept driving much pre-season speculation is “timeliness.” Variety’s Todd McCarthy may have started it, with a Sundance wrap-up piece declaring eventual Oscar hopefuls as disparate as An Education, Precious and the environmental documentary The Cove to be “emblematic” of the “start of the Obama age.” The relevancy torch has since been carried by Frank Rich, who recently effused that Up in the Air “captures the distinctive topography of our Great Recession as vividly as a far more dour Hollywood product of 70 years ago, ‘The Grapes of Wrath,’ did the vastly different landscape of the Great Depression,” and by fans on Twitter, arguing the “zeitgeisty” merits of Jason Reitman’s film versus those of The Hurt Locker and Precious. Timeliness is not always next to godliness as far as the Academy is concerned.

Movie Reviews: “Armored”
7 December 2009 10:55 AM, PST
| Studio Briefing - Film News

It's hard to figure out why those who devised the marketing campaign for Armored elected not to show it to critics in advance. After all, it costars Laurence Fishburne, an Oscar-nominated actor (What's Love Got to Do with It?) and Matt Dillon (Drugstore Cowboy, Crash), one of the few actors to achieve critical respect after getting his start as an androgynous teen featured regularly in the pages of Tiger Beat (a typical feature article: "Take a Bath with Matt"). A.O. Scott in his New York Times review may have put his finger on the problem when he described the movie as "a blunt and unpretentious action thriller too unassuming to show itself in advance to critics." Ty Burr in the Boston Globe added: "This is exactly the kind of lean, unpretentious B-thriller that people who watch movies for a living tend to appreciate, even if paying audiences no longer do." But Bruce DeMara wrote in the Toronto Star that a studio's decision to block weekend reviews usually means that it's expecting "a slew of tepid reviews. Well, at least they got something right." Actually, with a few exceptions -- DeMara's being one of them -- the reviews have turned out to be mostly favorable. Joe Neumaier in the New York Daily News described it as "a tense, gutsy crime drama ... and, for this genre, surprisingly ethical." The Times's Scott pronounced it "an unabashed B movie: basic, brutal and sometimes clumsy, but far from dumb, and not bad at all." And to the Los Angeles Times's Glenn Whipp, it's "a solid heist flick."

Academy Award nominee Matt Dillon (Crash) stars as a senior member of an armored transport crew who decides that rather than protecting a fortune, they should make off with it in Armored, co-starring Laurence Fishburne, Skeet Ulrich and Columbus Short. Dillon did a lot of his own stunts in the action drama, including a scene in which his pant leg is on fire.
"This is the first movie I've been set on fire. These guys are amazing at what they do," said Dillon on the film's set. "But this is fun. I think this rolling around in the dirt doing this stuff, it's like being a kid again, you know? It's just a lot of fun."

A new trailer for the upcoming action movie “Armored” has been released. Check it out below.
Matt Dillon | Armored
The movie is directed by Nimród Antal (Vacancy, Control) from the script by newbie writer James V. Simpson.
A crew of officers at an armored transport security firm risk their lives when they embark on the ultimate heist… against their own company.
Armed with a seemingly fool-proof plan, the men plan on making off with a fortune with harm to none. But when an unexpected witness interferes, the plan quickly unravels and hell breaks loose; all bets are off and each man must fight to survive on a dog-eat-dog battleground made of steel.

A few months ago, as All About Steve came and went having revealed more about Steve than audiences could bear, I wrote in this blog about the disservice Sandra Bullock was doing herself, clinging to outmoded girly roles when her talent (and the sunny goodwill she has earned with audiences) could support more serious and more mature characters.
Am I a genius or what? Okay, maybe not. But the great response our Sandy (we can call her that, can't we, because she's a star who feels very much one of the people) is getting for her more serious, more mature

Spirit Awards 2010 Nominees Announced

Academy Award nominee Taraji P Henson (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) and two-time Spirit Award winner Matt Dillon (Crash, Drugstore Cowboy) had the honor of announcing the nominees for the 2010 Spirit Awards recognizing the best in independent films released in 2009. No clear front-runner emerged as voters spread out the nominations over 35 films. The Last Station and Precious did tie for the most nominations with five each.
In celebration of the event's 25th anniversary, Film Independent has moved the ceremony from a beach in Santa Monica to downtown Los Angeles in a tent on the rooftop at La Live overlooking La. They've also changed the timing of the 2010 Spirit Awards from a Saturday daytime event to Friday, March 5th at 8:00pm. But according to Film Independent, the event will retain the casual, fun spirit of past Spirit Awards despite the new, more formal venue.
