It's a real shame that Castlevania has become such a troubled production. It's a cool enough video game to make the transition to the big screen, but it could be on its third director in about 18 months.
At first, Sylvain White (Stomp the Yard) was attached to direct...and then the project kind of went away. Then earlier this year, original Saw director James Wan threw himself at the project with Paul W.S. Anderson producing. We wrote a little bit about that in July, with Wan saying, "I'll be working on the script with a writer to give it a new spin, different to the previous versions. This will have my stamp on it, which Konami is very excited about."
Or not. Shock Till You Drop quotes producer Jeremy Bolt as indicating that Anderson will be directing and he's waiting for yet another script. I wonder how much all this indecision has cost the producers. »

The Castlevania film, based upon the Konami game, seems to be going through a difficult birthing process. After an announced start date passed and original director Sylvain White (Stomp the Yard) moved on to other things, James Wan (Saw) signed on to co-write and direct the project, with Paul Ws Anderson producing. "I'm very fresh on this project, so its early stages and I'm still trying to work things out, but the producers love my vision for it," Wan told the media.
Then news about the project all but dried up. Until today. On the Toronto set of Resident Evil: Afterlife, producer Jeremy Bolt told Styd that Anderson is once again circling Castlevania and is currently waiting for the script.
No word, however, as to what role Anderson will play in the film: producer, director...or perhaps both.
Bolt added that Anderson is also looking to adapt Konami's 'Metal Gear Solid' for the big screen. »

Drug addicts, doctors, renegade police offices and anyone else that may need “to help themselves” should stay on edge as it looks like the Jigsaw Killer will be on the lamb for the foreseeable future as Lionsgate recently stated that they will continue making the Rube Goldberg horror series Saw “as long as we make money.”
Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns spoke those exact words at the Median and Money conference in New York on Thursday. To further prove his point, the confident Burns states that Dirty Dancing, 20 years after its debut, still sells an average of 2,000 DVDs per day.
While the most recent Saw VI didn’t perform as well as its predecessors, most people are attributing its dramatic drop off to the phenomenon of Paranormal Activity. I know most people say that the Saw stories aren’t good and it’s the same thing over and over, but »

Odd news from the set of Resident Evil: Afterlife as Bloody Disgusting's Mike Pereira sent in a small news bite that has me scratching my head. Resident Evil producer Jeremy Bolt tells press that writer/director/producer Paul W.S. Anderson is once again circling Castlevania, along with the feature film adaptation of Metal Gear Solid. Why so odd? This past July Saw co-creator James Wan was attached to the project that would bring Simon Belmont to the big screen to battle Dracula and other ghouls. We'll see if we can't get word from Wan. Personally, I'll cry if Anderson goes back to this project. »

The vice chairman of Lionsgate, Michael Burns, told The Hollywood Reporter that Paranormal Activity is to blame for Saw VI's disappointing box office numbers. So what does that mean for the Saw franchise? Burns said, "As long as we make money on it we'll keep doing this." Yesterday we announced that a release date for the 3D Saw 7 has already been set, and Twisted Pictures' Mark Burg told Shock Till You Drop that the franchise will most likely reach an 8th sequel. "The storyline that we started in five and carries through six ends in Saw VIII," says Burg. "Where it goes beyond that I couldn't tell you. In my mind and Oren [Koules]' mind, we have the story threaded through part eight. I can't tell you the franchise will continue after that." »

Though it's really no secret, Saw VII is happening. Yet the Hollywood trades don't need to listen to genre sites like this one to learn the truth; instead they go to fellas like Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns for confirmation. In a report this week, Burns told The Hollywood Reporter that Paranormal Activity is to blame for Saw VI 's lackluster performance. "As long as we make money on it we'll keep doing this," Burns said. The Saw franchise is expected to go through to an eighth entry, as revealed by Twisted Pictures Mark Burg here . »

Back in March Screen Rant reported on yet another horror remake to be put into the works with Dreamworks’ Fright Night. At the time the producers had been put in place but no writer. Jump forward 8 months and a writer has been found in the form of Marti Noxon, who’s a regular writer on AMC’s classy Mad Men, as well as having worked on the hit vampire series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
The original Fright Night was written and directed by Tom Holland (Child’s Play, The Langoliers) back in 1985, and was about a teenager (William Ragsdale) who discovers his new next door neighbor (Chris Sarandon) is a vampire. However, he’s the only one who knows it, as no one will believe him.
I remember the original Fright Night pretty well, although I can’t seem to recall the comedy element from the “horror-comedy” label that’s »

After releasing the latest installment of "Saw VI" in October this year, Lionsgate Films has moved forward with another sequel of the thriller film by announcing the release date for "Saw VII". According to Shock Till You Drop, the studio has claimed October 22, 2010 will be the day when the seventh "Saw" movie hits U.S. theaters.
As of late, "Saw VI" producer Mark Burg and co-writer Marcus Dunstan have said that "Saw VII" will be filmed in 3-D. "Saw, just by the way it's shot, lends itself to being a 3-D movie," Berg explained. "We saw a test that somebody did, a minute of Saw transferred from 2-D to 3-D and it looked great. We're not going to transfer VII, but we'll actually shoot it in 3-D. We want to be able to build the sets in a way that takes advantage of depth."
"We're going to design traps to come out at you, »

In spite of less than thrilling box office numbers (its current worldwide gross is still less than the last entry's opening weekend with only $26 million), Twisted Pictures forges ahead with Saw VII ( Saw 7 ) in 3-D. And today, Lionsgate has claimed an October 22, 2010 release date. The next entry is written by returning screenwriters Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton. David Hackl is back in the director's chair. He helmed Saw V . Costas Mandylor will be back as Hoffman and you can probably presume Tobin Bell shall return for more Jigsaw flashbacks. Start your theories as to where the story will turn now! »

Pre-production on Saw VII has already begun ... so despite the poor box office for Saw VI, the Saw series is far from over. Saw VII will look to revitalize the franchise, at least financially, with the series stepping into 3-D territory for the first time. Tobin Bell spoke to Fearnet about what it will be like to bring Jigsaw to the third dimension.
It will be an interesting experience. I'll be doing the same thing. Possibly doing it differently, like saying, "Reach out this way!" But I am going to be doing exactly what I always do. I am more concerned with the quality of the drama than I am in the special effects, I'll leave that to someone else. That's not my job. I'll be watching with interest and listening for good counsel from the 3-D techs, who I'm sure will be lingering around me. And I'll be saying, »

Rick Remender, Seth Peck and Francesco Francavilla's horror comic “Sorrow” has been optioned as a potential feature film by Twisted Pictures, the production company behind the “Saw” franchise.
Screenwriter Michael Hidalgo (“The Butcherhouse Chronicles”) is set to adapt the script, according to Shock Till You Drop. First published as a four issue miniseries in 2007 by Image Comics, “Sorrow” follows a young woman and her friends who are stranded in a literal ghost town where the spirits of the dead threaten to claim the bodies of the living.
“Saw” producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules are also onboard the project. Burg and Koules are also executive producers of the long running sitcom, “Two and a Half Men.”
Remender is quickly becoming one of the busiest comic creators in Hollywood. Earlier this year, Remender was tapped to write the screenplay adaptation of his upcoming miniseries “The Last Days of American Crime” from Radical Publishing. »

Another comic-to-film adaptation is in the pipeline, this one from Twisted Pictures, the company most known for its Saw films. It's called Sorrow and is the brainchild of Rick Remender, Seth Peck, and Francesco Francavilla published by Image Comics.
You may recall that Twisted Pictures was in the news recently due to its efforts to acquire the rights to Texas Chainsaw Massacre and then prepare another remake ... in 3D. Nothing firm has been announced on that front yet, but Twisted is hardly sitting around twiddling its thumbs. According to Shock Till You Drop Twisted's Mark Burg and Oren Koules will produce Sorrow along with Erick Salomon, Chris Ridenhour, and Andrew Wilson. Michael Hidalgo is writing the script and had this to say about the project: ""Rick, Seth, and Francesco have created a throwback to '70s and '80s horror/thriller films with the perfect mix of terror and memorable characters. »

One of the secrets to the Saw franchise's success has been its ability to plan ahead. And so before Saw VI's release, well before, plans were already underway to shoot Saw VII. But next year's sequel already promises something to distinguish it from the prior installments in the Saw series – 3-D. At the recent La red carpet for Saw VI, we asked star Tobin Bell what he thinks about the decision to continue Jigsaw's story in a different medium. Find out what he told us after the jump. "It will be an interesting experience," said Bell. "I'll be doing the same thing. Possibly doing it differently, like saying, 'Reach out this way!' But I am... »

A mere six years ago James Wan and Leigh Whannel started a steam rolling franchise with their low budget and inventive Saw. Each Halloween a new sequel has been released building a backstory to the contraption led plan of Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) beyond anything his creators could have imagined. Even as the events in each sequel have become increasingly unlikely and over complicated the Saw franchise inhabits its own world with now familiar rules that allow for certain contrivinces in order to feed our fan lust for blood, torture and the fiendish life lessons of the screens most popular franchise killer in decades.

Blood: The Last Vampire fights its way to Blu-ray and DVD November 2. The movie is a slick and stylised English adaptation of the hugely popular cult hit anime series of the same name. The movie is full of blood and gore, so in celebration of this release, we have compiled a short list of some of the bloodiest films to date. Chances are, if you loved these films and relished the blood, then you will love Blood: The Last Vampire. The name speaks for itself!
Blood: The Last Vampire (2009)
It is clear to see that Blood: The Last Vampire sticks true to its gory genre. In many of the scenes, Saya is surrounded by a group of demons. The creativity of their deaths is the winning factor here, for example in one scene she decapitates a demon by throwing a metal grate at it, and slices another in half to create an upward blood fountain, »
