The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, that you instead use this new feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes .

Sex & Nudity

There are three sexual moments which have contributed to the R rating of Brokeback Mountain. The first is between Ledger and Gyllenhaal - it is not long and there is no nudity although it is realistic. The second depicts no kind of intercourse - although the woman does remove her top and her breasts are shown quite clearly. The last one is briefer than the first one and does depict intercourse. There is also brief female nudity.

Two scenes imply anal sex, though nothing shown it's easy to figure out.

Violence & Gore

One scene of strong violence only - it is stylistically edited such that it is not very graphic and it is also brief. However, the nature of it (it is a homophobic assault) is disturbing. There is some more moderate violence at points in the film. Also, there is an image of gore - it is shown in the distance and is not very clear yet it is disturbing nonetheless. Also there is a sheep shown half eaten

Profanity

Occasional uses of the F-word.

Some scenes depict characters drinking or smoking. However, none of them glamorise either act. There is also the "assumption" of Marijuana. But never mentioned or directly shown.

Some scenes of emotional intensity - the very nature of the film is to be emotionally arresting.
