They say that in the specific you find the universal, and Sophie Okonedo can relate. The actress was raised in such a very unique household, having been born in London's East End to a Nigerian and an Ashkenazi Jew, yet from those particular roots, Okonedo's found herself able to play cultural realities that are very far afield from her, whether it's a Tutsi wife (her Oscar-nominated role) in Hotel Rwanda, a genetically modified super-agent in Aeon Flux, or even Winnie Mandela in the upcoming film Mrs. Mandela.
Okonedo's current film is Anthony Fabian's Skin, the devastating true story of Sandra Laing (Okonedo), born to two white Afrikaner parents in Apartheid-era South Africa yet torn asunder by a legal system that couldn't fathom such a possibility. It's a meaty role for Okonedo, and one I tried to convince the reticent actress to open up about. »

From the creative mind of Oscar Winner Diablo Cody, who after her teenage comedy/drama Juno delivers her take on the horror genre staring Megan Fox as a demon possessed cheerleader man eater who terrorizes the small town of Devil’s Kettle and it’s down to her nerdy nervy best friend Needy to stop her (that’s fun to say).
After the success of Juno I think it’s safe to say everyone was hoping for something equally enjoyable and well written and a different take on the Horror movie but alas it’s one of the most predictable horror films I’ve seen with some equally terrible dialogue and acting, mainly from Megan Fox. Also on board on directing duties is Karyn Kusama who directed the awful Aeon Flux and Juno Director Jason Reitman who produces.
The plot of the film was ridiculous, Two teenagers Jennifer Check (Megan Fox »

"Astro Boy," based on the long-standing manga and anime series of the same name, rockets into theaters this weekend with an impressive voice cast that includes Freddie Highmore, Kristen Bell and Nicolas Cage.
While the animated adaptation already has connections to the comic book world by its very nature, several members of the film's cast have their own ties to the paneled page outside of "Astro Boy"—just check out the following five actors to see their connections to other comic book and superhero-related projects!
Kristen Bell: Already a fan-favorite within the geek community for her starring roles in "Veronica Mars" and "Fanboys," Kristen Bell sealed the deal even further with her multi-episode arc on "Heroes." Bell played Elle Bishop, the bratty supervillain with mastery over electricity.
While that remains the extent of her super-powered career to date (not counting "Astro Boy," that is) Bell's name has been mentioned »

As countless graphic novels and comic books are being translated to film, one can't help but notice that there isn't much of a female presence in the pages or on the screen of these adaptations. Most of the stories are written and feature predominantly masculine themes and characters. This may be attributed to the fact that female-driven films like Aeon Flux, Catwoman and Elektra haven't been the strongest performers with critics and box office alike. But Variety reports that both the female written and driven graphic novel series Frenemy of the State from actress Rashida Jones (I Love You, Man) is headed to the big screen. Brian Grazer (Imagine Entertainment) and Eric Gitter (Closed on Mondays) are producing the story which "revolves around a young wealthy heiress who works undercover for the CIA." Jones co-wrote the original comic and will co-write the script for the film along with actor Will McCormack »

A year ago, it seemed a remake of Jerome Salle's French thriller "Anthony Zimmer" was all set to begin filming in early 2009 with Tom Cruise and Charlize Theron starring and Bharat Nalluri ("The Crow: Salvation") directing. All of those players have now passed their respective hats though. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Theron is out and will potentially be replaced by Angelina Jolie.
The English-language redo, which is titled "The Tourist," had already seen Cruise replaced with "Terminator Salvation" actor Sam Worthington. Reportedly Nalluri is also off the film and producers seek a filmmaker who will work well with Jolie. Interestingly enough, the female half of Brangelina just finished shooting the action/thriller "Salt," for which she had replaced Cruise in the gender-switched lead role.
It is somewhat surprising that Jolie would go from that movie to a similar project, as both are thrillers in which she plays an international agent of some sort. »

This just in! Charlize Theron wouldn’t mind playing Catwoman in the sequel to the second highest grossing film of all time, The Dark Knight. Well that entire last sentence would qualify for a big, fat “Duh!” Can you tell me one person that wouldn’t say “Yes” to star in a billion dollar franchise if asked? Megan Fox was recently rumored to be playing the feminine milk-drinking feline villain a few weeks ago but Warner Bros. execs were quick to shoot that down. It’s not a direct quote but I think the press release said something like, “Um, Hell No!”
During an Stv interview that probably only consisted of some guy with a mini-voice recorder stalking her as she shopped for groceries, Theron said this:
“It’s news to me, but that’s kick-ass news. I like that… I think that what has happened to that franchise is amazing, »

Despite a script from Oscar-winning writer Diablo Cody, Jennifer's Body feels like an overgrown, poorly written episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (Think "Beer Bad" bad, Buffy fans.) There's some supernatural silliness, forced dialogue, and a meandering plot, but the filmmakers probably think that their target audience is too distracted by the titular torso to care.
Transformers' Megan Fox seems born for the part of Jennifer, a high school girl who uses her looks to get what she wants. She drags her best friend, Needy (Amanda Seyfried, Mamma Mia!), with her on her escapades, and the supposedly plain Jane Needy is all too happy to acquiesce, despite protests from her boyfriend, Chip (Johnny Simmons, Hotel for Dogs).
A night of partying gives Jennifer more than just a hangover, and Needy soon discovers that her best friend has been possessed by a flesh-eating demon whose sated hunger has left a bloody trail in its wake. »

Jennifer's Body has been the most talked about movie since Megan Fox brought it to Comic-Con this past July. Written by Oscar winner Diablo Cody, Jennifer's Body takes a fresh look at high school, by highlighting the evil that lurks in every hallway. The incredible mix of horror and comedy has never been packaged so nicely until Jennifer's Body. Out nationwide today, the perfect date flick will have you on the edge of your seat as your date drools over the perfect Megan Fox. Searching for fame, Nikolai Wolf (Adam Brody) decides to sacrifice Jennifer Check (Megan Fox) to the devil. When Nikolai's plan back fires and turns Jennifer into a bloodsucking, thrill seeking vampire who preys on young men, the town is never the same. Just as he's about to rip the beautiful Jennifer's tightly bound body to shreds with a knife, hunky young Nikolai tries to tell her why. Nikolai is the lead singer of an indie band called Low Shoulder. They're desperate to make it big — to be the next Maroon 5! But the world is awash in indie bands, so it's hard. "There are so many of us," he says, "and we're all so cute. ... Satan is our only hope." In the group's quest for diabolic new management, Nikolai has downloaded a Satanic ritual off the Internet. All that's required is a virgin sacrifice. Unfortunately, he's picked the wrong girl: Jennifer's days of sexual innocence are far behind her. ("I'm not even a backdoor virgin," she later admits.) So the ritual goes seriously wrong. »

Jennifer's Body Directed by: Karyn Kusama Written by: Diablo Cody Starring: Megan Fox, Amanda Seyfried, Adam Brody, Johnny Simmons, J.K. Simmons, Amy Sedaris When first-time screenwriter Diablo Cody won an Oscar a couple of years ago for the indie hit Juno, it immediately catapulted her to a level of fame that very few Hollywood writers ever reach. This attention also came with its fair share of backlash, as many people chose to look down on her very public previous career choice as a stripper, while others simply labeled Juno as overrated and too clever for its own good. Regardless, the movie had marked the arrival of a bold new voice in Hollywood, and one that wouldn't likely be going away anytime soon. After launching the successful Showtime series The United States of Tara (with the help of Steven Spielberg, no less), Cody went on to tackle her sophomore film, a horror-comedy hybrid called Jennifer's Body. »

Like being trapped inside a ’90s teenage drama with ’80s horror sensibilities, Jennifer’s Body is easily one of the most annoying features to arrive this year. Chalk-full of Caucasoid witticisms forced into virtually every line from Juno-scribe Diablo Cody, this genre-bending film wallows in mean-spirited mischief, self-importance and worst of all: shallowness. It’s the perfect venue for Megan Fox, whose previous films also embark on the same path of appealing to only the basics of male instincts.
Because if you can’t have more than five explosions, you’d better crank up the lesbian action. To the creative team behind this film, that’s what us dudes want. Jennifer (Fox) is a bitch. Self-absorbed, slutty, and a cheerleader, the raven-haired beauty doesn’t have many close friends; just a slew of suitors and nerdy gal-pal Needy (Amanda Seyfried) who verges on obsession with Jennifer while harboring some pent-up homo-love. »

Megan Fox and Johnny Simmons in Jennifer's Body
Photo: 20th Century Fox Is this supposed to be funny or played as a straight horror? I ask because as an apparent attempt to combine both, Jennifer's Body completely misses the mark due to a primary lack of characters that extend beyond the cardboard cutout representations the film initially introduces us to. As a result, anyone looking to write-off Megan Fox as a lead actress is going to have to hold your breath a little longer as she is given very little to work with on this D.O.A. thriller. Written by Diablo Cody, I think we all hoped to find her growing as a screenwriter, but instead the cutesy little dialogue she wrote for Juno carries over into this feature, although this time coming across stilted and dull. Perhaps this comes as a fault of director Karyn Kusama, whose Girlfight I have not seen, »

Full disclosure section: I have a massive crush on Diablo Cody, and will follow her to the ends of the Earth if need be. On top of that, I am one of 17 people who actually thinks Karyn Kusama's Aeon Flux is a pretty damn cool movie, even with studio interference and obvious compromises. So the combining of these forces in a movie starring Megan Fox as a hot cheerleader and Amanda Seyfried as a hot nerd could quite conceivably, in my mind, be the greatest movie ever made that did not spring from my own head. (And after Rambo, of course). Jennifer's Body thankfully combines everything nicely, in... »
