Director Bryan "Superman Returns" Singer will take on the Fox feature "X-Men: First Class" for producers Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg, based on a script treatment Singer wrote for the film.
Screenplay is by Jamie Moss.
In Toronto, Singer directed Fox' first "X-Men" film in 2000. Two subsequent "X-Men" sequels were filmed in Vancouver.
"X-Men: First Class" will focus on the back-story of the famous Marvel Comics' mutant super-hero team, during their formative years, revolving around 20-something "X-Men" mutant leader 'Xavier' and his nemesis, 'evil' mutant 'Magneto', revealing how their relationship took a 'wrong turn', to the detriment of mankind.
Singer also confirmed there will be a romantic element, with some of the original mutants from the "X-Men" team entering into the scheme of things, as well as 'new mutants' and a new villain.
Fox continues to develop a dedicated feature revolving around "Magneto", a sequel to "Wolverine

Katee Sackhoff will join the long line of celebrities that are taking a stab at comic books, a medium that Hollywood seems to be more in love with than “traditional” literature. Along with Rosario Dawson, Tyrese Gibson and Rashida Jones, Sackhoff will be teaming up with a co-writer named Sxv’leithan Essex on a comic book called Versus, which in a recent interview with TV Guide Magazine, she said would be announced at next year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
In the interview, Sackhoff also explained her love for much of Jeph Loeb’s comic work, and in particular just about everything he’s done with Superman. Sackhoff didn’t have much to say about a publisher, artist, or when we could expect to see the book hit shelves, but she assured that all will be revealed next year in San Diego.

Battelstar Galactica's follow up prequel series Caprica has pushed out their full pilot online (above) before its series premiere Jan 22nd on SyFy, and it reminds us that this may not be the only time the show flirts with web viewers. Streamy Award winner Jane Espenson is behind the series, along with fellow Battlestar writer Ronald Moore.
Tubefilter's Drew Baldwin spoke with creator and Executive Producer David Eick ealier this year at the Caprica premiere screening at PaleyFest09, and asked whether we can expect a Caprica web series, he said, "it's a possibility."
Arguably, this isn't much to go on. It's probably just a good excuse to show our readers the Caprica pilot. Battlestar did release a well-received web companion series—The Face of the Enemy—which picked up a Streamy last year, so this wouldn't be new ground for this group. We do hear that SyFy is looking to

The folks at the SyFy Channel would like to get their audience really excited for their upcoming “Battlestar Galactica” spin-off TV show, “Caprica”, which is set to premiere early next year, January 22. The cable net has put all 90-ish minutes of the pilot online for free ahead of the show’s bow as part of their strategy (you can click on the link to go watch it now, or watch it in the embed below). Of course, that’s if you haven’t already seen the movie yet, which was already released on DVD nearly a year ago.
“Caprica” is set 50 years before the events of “Battlestar Galactica”, and follows two families, the Graystones and the Adamas, that live together on a peaceful planet known as Caprica, where a startling breakthrough in artificial intelligence brings about unforeseen consequences.
Starring Esai Morales and Eric Stoltz.

Ho Ho Ho! It’s that time of the year for giving and receiving and if your having trouble finding the perfect gift for your loved one then i will hopefully mention something that will help fill that stocking in time for 25th December.
I’m going to run down my top Blu-Ray films, Top DVD’s, Top TV Boxsets and Top anything else that I think are must haves this year.
We’ve added links to Zavvi.com who are currently offering free delivering on everything so make sure you check them out.
Blu-ray and DVD Films
I’ll start with Blu-Ray/DVD films. Blu-Rays have reduced in price incredibly in the run up to Christmas and if you shop around then you will find all sort of deals like 2-4-1’s or 2 for a nice low price, and it’s still not to late to get them in time for Christmas.

SyFy Channel Streams Caprica Pilot Online

SyFy’s Battlestar Galactica follow-up prequel series, Caprica, doesn’t hit atmosphere until Jan. 22nd, but they’re streaming the pilot episode online right now for free in a feeble attempt to redeem themselves for changing their network name (presumably for the purposes of better creating a marketable brand for themselves). As much as I’m not a fan of their name change, this pilot is definitely worth checking out.
Released on DVD earlier this year, the 90-minute Caprica pilot has drummed up a modest amount of buzz, though few absolutely stellar critical notices. The world of this series takes place 58 years before the beginning of Battlestar Galactica, and as far as prequel series go, this one at least appears to be making a concerted effort to both stand apart from its predecessor and live up to its high standard. Also, Eric Stoltz is in the house.

The last 24 hours were lively on the Twitter Report follow list with Brian Michael Bendis' excitement over new "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" boxer shorts and Paul Pope doing an impression of Luke Cage on Christmas Day. Brad Meltzer, meanwhile, taped in front of a lively studio audience last night, according to his tweets, which state that he appeared on Glenn Beck's show to discuss heroes.
Transportation accidents somehow trended as well, with Brandon Jerwa having a near-death experience, B. Clay Moore recalling a past brush with the reaper during Comic-Con, and Aaron Diaz discussing the origin of his own scar in Harry Potter terms. Check those out along with a sad photo from Terry Moore and a Jock's latest project with Andy Diggle.

So how's that direct-to-dvd market working out, SyFy? SyFy has just given a big middle finger to those that purchased the DVD of the Caprica pilot by offering the entire episode online via Hulu for free.
It's possible that I'm overreacting. After all, the episode will eventually be shown on SyFy (January 2010, in fact). I haven't had a chance to watch the online version but I'm assuming that the brief nudity from the DVD version has been edited out. It is the extended cut, so I could be mistaken about that.
In retrospect, this is a smart marketing move on the part of SyFy. Most of the Battlestar Galactica fans are pretty technically savvy and have likely watched the pilot already in one way or another. Offering it for free online is the best way of getting potential new fans involved in the Battlestar Galactica franchise, particularly since SyFy is

When last we reported on actress Katee Sackhoff, the former Starbuck was rumored to be picking up a healthy pile of Typhoid Mary comics and dropping hints at a possible Marvel Comics movie role. Now it appears the "Battlestar Galactica" alum and mystery star in the upcoming season of Fox's "24," is switching gears from actor to author as the co-writer behind an upcoming comic book project.
Sackhoff told TV Guide last week that she'd be announcing a new project entitled, "Versus" with co-creator and screenwriter Sxv'Leithan Essex at next summer's San Diego Comic-Con International.
Apparently her multiple convention appearances have rubbed off on the actress, who shared a few of her earliest comic book reading memories and noted a potential writing influence.
“I grew up reading 'Betty & Veronica,” Sackhoff told TV Guide. “I was obsessed with it. Every time that we would go on an airplane or on a car

Bioware is one company that takes its voiceover work seriously. For Star Wars: The Old Republic, Bioware hired over 100 actors to voice over 40 novels worth of written material. And now Bioware has announced that it has hired several top-notch voice actors for the heavily-anticipated sci-fi sequel, Mass Effect 2.
Dr. Ray Muzyka, co-founder of Bioware and Group General Manager of the RPG/Mmo Group of EA, reasoned that,
“[e]motionally engaging narrative is a key design pillar for Bioware, and the top-notch voice talent in Mass Effect 2 helps drive this goal. Credible, powerful personalities are vital to delivering a compelling story experience in Bioware’s games, and we have assembled an amazing ensemble cast that surpasses the very high bar set in the original Mass Effect!”
Martin Sheen (The West Wing, Apocalypse Now) stars as the mysterious Illusive Man who commands Cerberus, a secretive paramilitary organization dedicated to protecting human interests in the galaxy.

Syfy is giving its fans an early Christmas present: An extended version of the pilot episode for "Caprica" is available online, more than a month before the series officially premieres.
The cable channel has already released the "Battlestar Galactica" prequel's pilot on DVD, way back in April. Those who didn't pony up the money for it then can now see what they missed, along with some extra footage that probably won't make it into the first hour of the Jan. 22 premiere (the cut online runs about 52 minutes, a good deal longer than the 42-44 minutes for a typical episode of an ad-supported show).
"Caprica" is set 58 years before the events of "Battlestar" ("before the fall," as the show puts it) and will focus primarily on two families, the wealthy and powerful Graystones and the Adamas, an immigrant family from one of the other 12 colonies. Eric Stoltz stars as Daniel Graystone,

In an unconventional step, Syfy has decided to stream the pilot for "Caprica" either six weeks before the show's January 2010 premiere, or several months after the pilot was first made available on DVD and on iTunes download. The version of the "Battlestar Galactica" prequel made available to sites including HitFix is not the same version originally released. For one thing, the nudity featured in the original pilot is, as one might guess, absent. Perhaps as a trade-off for that absent nudity (still available on the DVD and whatnot), the special effects have been upgraded and new scenes have been

When the Syfy show Sanctuary first started out, it did so as a made-for-the-web, paid downloadable series, sans network. The Vancouver-produced program, created by writer/producer Damon Kindler and exec produced by 'Stargate' veteran Amanda Tapping (also the show's star), generated plenty of positive buzz across the Interwebs, and before long Syfy (then Sci Fi Channel) came a-calling.
Some argued that the producers had "sold out" to a network, abandoning the pioneering spirit which they had first embraced…while others quickly realized that the model of creating a hit on the web might just be one way for new projects to get the attention of the old media guard. They were right, and it did.
Sanctuary was just the first salvo, it seems. The current economic downturn, combined with a strengthening Canadian dollar, may have slowed production in Vancouver, but it's galvanized the city's stalwart journeyman industry, forging it from

While you were having fun this weekend, SyFy announced the renewal Of Stargate: Universe. The freshman show, a different take on the Stargate premise, has been doing okay numbers on its intitial outings but gangbuster numbers once the DVR totals are added in.
For me, the first episodes have been hit-or-miss. They've only shown half a season, and it usually takes at least that for a show to find its legs. For me, dramatically, I'm still not sure the show "works." I get what they are trying to do -- approaching the entire Stargate mythos from a far more realistic base -- but it seems like they are still neither fish nor fowl. They have elements of Battlestar Galactica and the original Stargate in the new show, but it doesn't always work.
Until the bitter end, BSG was pretty much able to mix darkness, adventure, social commentary, and Sf extravaganza successfully.

SyFy puts two season orders at the same time, one for "Stargate Universe" and another for "Sanctuary". The implications of that, the real division that will cause amongst the crew, the judgment of those characters and the actions are going to have a big impact on the show," Executive Producer Robert Cooper explained what to expect in the new season.
