Jackie Earle Haley Addresses 'Green Lantern' Sinestro Rumors

18 October 2009 8:45 AM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Shortly after receiving an Oscar nomination for "Little Children," the Internet began buzzing with fans insisting that Jackie Earle Haley would make an ideal Rorschach in the "Watchmen" movie. When "Watchmen" hit theaters, many fans began lobbying for Haley to become the new Freddy Krueger.

Now, with "A Nightmare on Elm Street" in the can, Haley showed up to Saturday's Spike TV "Scream Awards" having just learned about another possible gig from the Internet: playing the supervillain Sinestro in "Green Lantern."

"I just heard about this, literally," Haley told MTV News of an anonymously sourced report on Ain't It Cool News claiming he will be offered the role of arch-enemy to Ryan Reynolds' Hal Jordan in the soon-to-shoot blockbuster.

"I know the guys that are doing it. It's exciting to me," he said. "It makes me want to go get the Green Lantern comics and start reading up."

You can send any/all of the above to ausielloscoop@ew.com Question: Is it at all possible that Shonda Rhimes would bring Isaiah Washington back to Grey's Anatomy for even one episode now that T.R. Knight has left the show? —Ben Ausiello: Listen to me very carefully, because I'm only going to say this once: Never. Gonna. Happen. Mighty Movie Podcast: The Underdog Bites Back: Tom Hooper on The Damned United

8 October 2009 3:55 PM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

To be clear, I've got nothing against sports films that exult in good sportsmanship and the triumph of the underdog and the sheer joy of human competition. The Natural? Sure. Bad News Bears? No prob. The Mighty Ducks? Let's not go crazy, now. But to be honest, I'm more favorably inclined towards films like The Damned United, films that scrape past the noble veneer of sports, films that explore how the spirit that buoys the rise of underdogs could also, possibly, sink 'em. The film, written by Peter Morgan (The Queen, Frost/Nixon), is based on a novel by David Peace, a fictionalized recounting of the curious ascendancy and rapid fall of Brian Clough (Michael Sheen), a soccer manager who in the '70's drove the ragtag Derby County club to a championship and then, given a chance to manage the formidable Leeds... »

Billy Bob Thornton Gets Boxing

21 August 2009 12:15 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

The words "Ron Shelton" and "sports pic" go together like strawberries and cream, so it's always a good day when we hear that he's planning to make another one - say, a boxing film called Pound for Pound. And he's got Billy Bob Thornton to star in it, another actor who's generally suited to sports movies (although we're thinking more Friday Night Lights than Bad News Bears). It's based on the novel by Million Dollar Baby author F.X.Toole*, about a retired and widowed boxer (Thornton) mourning the death of his grandson. His life "intersects in unexpected ways" with a young up-and-coming Latino boxer, in what we're assured is a heartwarming story and not a total downer like that Clint Eastwood and Hilary Swank film.Shelton is both writing and directing, and shooting's due to take place early next year.*Sounds like something they use at Industrial Light and Magic. »

Little League Bank Robbers Make Movie Magic

13 August 2009 10:58 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Adam Sandler's Happy Madison production company is going to tell a story about Orioles baseball player Rick Dempsey-- but it won't have anything to do with Dempsey's World Series experience, or his adult life, for that matter. The story pitched by Johnathon Schaech, Josh Wolf and Richard Chizmar comes from Dempsey's childhood, in which his Little League coach turned out to be a bank robber. Schaech, who you might remember as the egotistical frontman of The Wonders in That Thing You Do!, told Variety ""Our pitch was, it's Catch Me if You Can meets Bad News Bears with a touch of Bad Santa. " And there will be a World Series in the film after all! The coach, John Jennings, led Dempsey's team to the Little League World Championship in 1963, before doing jail time for his life of crime. Happy Madison Plans Baseball Comedy

13 August 2009 1:48 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Adam Sandler's Happy Madison and Columbia have brought the rights to one of those true stories that seems to have been made for the movies. Based on the life of former Baltimore Orioles baseball star Rick Dempsey, it's the tale of a Little League coach who turned out to be a bank robber.Little League is, of course, the none-more-American phenomenon whereby young kids get used to a competitive sports by playing in a children's baseball league. Many a star got his start there, including Dempsey, whose coach John Jennings was a star on the field - leading his team to a Little League World Championship in 1963 - but also a bank robber off it.The film got its start when Rick Dempsey sat down for a chat with lifelong Orioles fan and improbably handsome That Thing You Do! star Jonathan Schaech*, who then wrote this script with Richard Chizmar and Josh Wolf. »

Freddy wrapped on Elm Street?

Just a little tidbit out of the Elm Street reboot this morning, as producer Brad Fuller (Friday The 13th) has revealed that "freddy is wrapped."

The news trickled out via Fuller's Twitter page, where he's been dropping tiny details throughout the now two-month production. What that means is that Jackie Earle Haley has completed his portion of the filming, so all the would-be paparazzi hoping to spy a glimpse of the new Freddy Krueger can put the cameras away.

What's new on Elm Street?

30 June 2009 8:45 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Over the past couple of weeks, we've been bombarded with "set photos" from the Platinum Dunes production of A Nightmare On Elm Street. Currently filming in and around Chicago, Illinois and across the border in Gary, Indiana (yes, the boyhood home of Michael Jackson), the production has been happening under the watchful eyes of curious onlookers, would-be paparazzi, and horror fiends alike.

While the "official" set visits have been occurring over the past few weeks and most of that coverage is currently "embargoed", the John Q. Public coverage keeps on coming.

On Monday, the crew of the Nightmare reboot returned to Gary yet again to film a dream sequence on Taylor Street. A few photos of the dilapidated housing were sent in last week (see them here) as maintenance crews prepped the block for filming. With filming complete in Gary (see the Post-Tribune's latest set report),  a few more photos have surfaced, »
