Rossum Admires Rihanna's Bravery

5 November 2009 2:06 PM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actress Emmy Rossum has heaped praise on Rihanna for bravely speaking out about her brutal beating at the hands of Chris Brown on U.S. TV.

The Bajan beauty broke her silence about the February attack, when she was beaten black and blue by her then-boyfriend, in an interview with Good Morning America this week.

In the pre-recorded chat, which first aired on Thursday, Rihanna admitted she was "embarrassed" about her romance with Brown, hinting she reconciled with him "eight or nine times" after the headline-grabbing incident.

She said, "That's embarrassing that that's the type of person that I fell in love with. So far in love. So unconditional that I went back. It's humiliating to say this happened. To accept that? It's a traumatising experience. I stayed. I even went back after he beat me, which was wrong."

And her candid comments have won her a fan in Rossum, who feels sure Rihanna's story will help other young abused women.

In a post on her Twitter.com page, she writes, "Just saw the first half of the interview of Diane Sawyer speaking to Rihanna about domestic violence. She speaks honestly, bravely. So many of my friends have experienced this, it's very close to my heart. I urge young women - & really women of any age - to watch it."

And the Poseidon star is encouraging domestic abuse victims not to suffer in silence and reach out for help, even providing the number for a support service.

She adds, "If someone is hurting you, or has hurt you, I urge you to tell someone. Do not be afraid to come forward, tell your friends, tell your family. It may be very frightening to speak up and say aloud what has happened... but do not be ashamed of what someone else has done to you.

"If you or someone you know is frightened about a relationship, please call the National Domestic Violence Hotline." »

And the singer reveals the pair has grown close after enjoying impromptu music sessions together.

Fox to Reboot Fantastic Four (Already)

1 September 2009 8:56 AM, PDT | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

Let's face it, Disney buying Marvel for $4 Billion is the biggest news the house of Spidey is going to see until Iron Man 2 comes out next year. But also surfacing, according to Variety, is the news that Fox plans to re-boot its Fantastic Four franchise. Producing the new flick is Akiva Goldsman, who recently served as producer on movies like Hancock, I Am Legend and Poseidon. Fox has also hired Michael Green to write the script. Green recently executive-produced NBC's Kings and also co-produced Heroes. So, will you get to see Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis as Mr. Fantastic, The Invisible Woman, The Human Torch and Thing? The previous Fantastic Four films may have performed well in terms of box office sales, but they are considered highly forgettable. The re-boot will most likely call for a new cast and direction. Since Marvel opened ... »

Fox Rebooting Fantastic Four: Do You Care?

31 August 2009 9:10 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

There are many things in this life that do not make me want to bang my head against the trash can by my desk. That's right. Surprise. I have a desk. But for some reason, the news that Fox is planning on revamping a series whose last film came out as late as 2007 baffles me to the point of shoving my head into a trash compactor. Not that I have anything specifically against Fox, even though it seems like it, the reason they need to reboot anything is because they failed to create lasting franchises in the first place. And according to Variety, this bad boy is coming courtesy of Akiva Goldsman. Yes, friends! From the Producer that brought you Deep Blue Sea And Mindhunters And Poseidon And I Am Legend And Hancock comes a reboot of a franchise that Fox has no idea how to create or market in the first place. 20th Century Fox Moving Forward on a Fantastic Four Reboot

31 August 2009 8:29 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Fox fires back. Following the surprising announcement this morning about Disney acquiring Marvel, Fox has announced that they're moving forward on rebooting the Fantastic Four franchise that director Tim Story ruined twice already. Screenwriter and producer Akiva Goldsman (Poseidon, I Am Legend, Hancock) has been hired to oversee the reboot as producer. The studio has also hired Michael Green, a co-executive producer on "Heroes" who also co-wrote the Green Lantern movie, to write the new screenplay. No word yet on exactly what they're planning to change this time around, but it will certainly be scrutinized by the fans. This is most likely a political move by Fox because they're worried that their Marvel licenses will be running out sooner than later. And at this point, they really don't have a chance to get any new franchises (Marvel won't give them any more extensions), so I'm sure they realized today that, »

Wolfgang Petersen Preparing Paprika?

11 August 2009 11:05 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Moviehole reports that Wolfgang Petersen is working on a version of the oddball Japanese anime Paprika.Paprika began life as a 1993 novel (serialised in Marie Claire!) by Satoshi Kon. It was adapted as a manga in 2003, the full-length anime in 2006, and a different manga in 2007.The plot, which sounds a better fit for David Cronenberg than Petersen, sees a doctor illegally using a new psychotherapy treatment called the "DC Mini", to manipulate her patients' dreams from the inside. When one of the few existing prototype machines is stolen, dreams and the real world eventually collide. There are living nightmares, people turning into one another, a weird circus parade, a people-eating robot and a giant doll. In a word, it's mental, so it's a curious prospect for a director whose recent work has been straight-down-the-line fare like Poseidon and Troy. There's no indication so far though of whether Petersen is planning animation or live action, »

Wolfgang Petersen Directing a Live-Action Paprika Remake?

11 August 2009 12:17 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Where has he been hiding? Wolfgang Petersen, the other German action movie director (not Roland Emmerich), hasn't directed anything since Poseidon back in 2006. He's attached to an alien movie called Uprising at Sony, but there hasn't been any movement on that for a while (as far as I know). Moviehole is reporting (without many details at all) that Petersen is attached to direct a live-action version of Yasutaka Tsutsui's Japanese novel Paprika. Anime enthusiasts may remember that an anime version of the book was produced in 2006. But a big anime remake just doesn't seem like something Wolfgang would do? Paprika is about a machine that allows therapists to enter their patient's dreams. When the machine is stolen, all hell breaks loose, and only a young female therapist can stop it: Paprika. Apparently it is a very trippy anime (watch the trailer) because it spends so much time in dreams. »

Wolfgang's Paprika?

10 August 2009 7:24 PM, PDT | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

Wolfgang Petersen's been pretty quiet since his 2005 disaster flick Poseidon under-performed at the Box-Office, so like many of his fellow filmmakers he's turning to the land of the rising sun for inspiration. According to the folks of Moviehole, the veteran director is circling a live-action adaptation of the 1993 Japanese novel Paprika, which has already spawned a manga and inevitable animated film in 2006. The story follows a race to stop a techno-criminal who is using stolen... »

Zoe Bell Is Today's Kickass Lady For The Ridley Scott 'Alien' Prequel

5 August 2009 10:00 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

All of us here at MTV are excited for Ridley Scott's "Alien" prequel. The director hasn't had anything to do with the series since the 1979 original, which is a bonafide classic. To honor Scott and his lasting contribution to badass women in film, we've paired up the lovely duo of MTV contributor Jenni Miller and Photoshop ninja/digital producer Sohyung Kang to produce a magical list of five leading ladies who could rock Ripley.

Although there aren't any hard and fast deets out there concerning Ridley Scott's prequel to "Alien," I've got my fingers crossed for a female badass to rival Sigourney Weaver's iconic Ripley. Since Weaver has stated publicly she doesn't think Ripley could be part of an "Alien" prequel, I have a few suggestions as to who could fulfill the role of cinema's favorite alien-killing, kitty-saving, space-feminist.

Zoe Bell is a real-life stunt double. She »

Lucas 'left scarred by sex scenes'

Josh Lucas has said that he hated filming sex scenes for his new movie because he had to spend a whole day with naked strangers. The Poseidon actor, who plays a sex-mad con man in Death in Love, had to simulate sex with nine different women for the role. Harrowing New Film Makes Lucas Take Love Life More Seriously

8 July 2009 6:26 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Poseidon star Josh Lucas is convinced his latest movie experience has made him the perfect partner because, after playing a creepy, violent con man, he now wants to be settled and stable.

In Death In Love, the actor portrays a sick misogynist who treats women terribly, but he insists the dark role gave him fresh perspective when it comes to his romance with actress Rachel McAdams.

He tells WENN, "It made me want a different kind of love in my life, that's for sure. It made me absolutely not want to ever feel this level of pain that I was willing to do to myself and other people for the character. It made me want to stay away from the kind of relationship where you're in a cycle of destruction with each other.

"After this film I really hungered to find a much lighter tone in my love life. I was very proud that I went there for the film but I didn't feel for one second the desire to live that in real life. Now I completely want something that is saner and stabler and solid and loving.

"I think, before, I probably had that bad boy, dangerous thing, wanting that bad girl. I really have shifted away from that, particularly when, in my experience, you've done that for years and years. You end up angry and miserable and heartbroken afterwards.

"Looking back, I think, 'How did I spend seven years doing that?' and I'm sure the woman I was with is saying the exact same thing."

Lucas, whose exes include actresses Salma Hayek and Alexa Davalos, knows The Notebook star McAdams is the girl for him - because he shares so many passions with her: "Rachel is actually probably one of the most truly committed environmental people I've ever come in contact with in my life. She lives it. We have that immediately in common." »

Actor Josh Lucas is so paranoid his cell phone will be hacked, he keeps the device under lock and key to prevent his personal messages and photographs from leaking online.

He tells People.com, "That's why I have a serious lock on the thing. You would have to smash it." »

Blue Valentine For Gosling & Williams

12 May 2009 12:25 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams are set to play a couple whose relationship is on the rocks in Blue Valentine, our second Valentine story of the day (after this one). The duo play a married couple whose pairing appears to be failing, causing them to reflect on happier times in the past. Presumably it's not a very long past, given the relative youth of both stars, but at least that reduces the number of flashbacks requiring bad wigs or '80s outfits. Also in the cast are Mike Vogel, of Cloverfield and Poseidon fame; John Doman (The Wire's Rawls) and Maryann Plunkett (The Squid and the Whale; Center Stage). The film was written by Derek Cianfrance, Cami Delavigne and Joey Curtis, with Cianfrance set to direct as well. He has a background in music videos and documentaries, for the most part, after making an auspicious Sundance debut with his short film Brother Tied. »

The Many Cameos Of J.J. Abrams’ ‘Star Trek’

11 May 2009 12:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Newcomers may not realize it, but the “Star Trek” franchise is rife with some truly bizarre casting choices, particularly within the film series. Kirstie Alley, John Larroquette, Alan Ruck, Kim Cattrall, F. Murray Abraham… lots of folks you wouldn’t necessarily expect to see popping up in a sci-fi feature, particularly one with “Trek’s” devoted fanbase.

J.J. Abrams’ just-released “Star Trek” continues on in the same tradition, with a number of the director’s friends and colleagues appearing in various extraneous roles.

Greg Grunberg

Even the most sharp-eyed fans can be forgiven for missing this one. That’s because Abrams’ longtime friend Greg Grunberg, who most know these days as Matt Parkman on Tim Kring’s “Heroes,” only lends his voice to the film. Grunberg pops up in an early scene, angrily reprimanding his young stepson, one James T. Kirk, for stealing his beautifully restored sports car. That same car is destroyed shortly afterwards, »
