3D remake of Swamp Thing will miss 2010 release

26 November 2009 4:46 AM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Producer Joel Silver says a new version of Swamp Thing is moving ahead, but won't be ready for a Halloween 2010 release.

The DC Comics character previously featured in two films - in 1982 and 1989 - and a 90s TV series. Actor Dick Durock, who played the creature, died in September.

Joel Silver told Sci Fi Wire that the Warner Bros film was moving along but wouldn't be completed in time for Halloween next year, which was suggested by fans as an ideal release date.

He said: "I don't think it'll be that soon, but we're working on it. It's happening, so we'll see what happens. I mean, it's something I'm excited about doing, and I want to hopefully pull that off, so we're working on that now."

The stories originally told of a scientist who fell into a bog after a chemical explosion and was resurrected as a humanoid mass of vegetation. »

Lobo Screen Test Filmed

25 November 2009 1:53 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

In a recent interview with Collider, super-producer Joel Silver (The Matrix) let it be known that a screen test has been filmed for Guy Ritchie’s upcoming adaptation of DC ComicsLobo, which Warner Bros. currently has in the pipeline.

I’ll be providing two versions of Silver’s comments: you can either watch them on video (you’ll have to wade through some references to Ninja Assassin to get to the meaty bits) – or you can simply read over a few choice quotes from the interview. Either way, you should certainly stick around to hear what I think afterward!

Here are the quotes from Silver:

“I was looking at a test we made [for Lobo] and I was seeing it through the eyes of [the San Diego] Comic-Con — through the eyes of that audience. It’s important to know that that audience is the biggest in the world. That’s the audience that you want to get. »

The Five: Movies We’re Thankful For in 2009

25 November 2009 11:45 AM, PST | Fandango | See recent Fandango news »

Seeing as it’s Thanksgiving and all, it’s only right that we look back over 2009 and pick out a few movies that we’re thankful for. Ya know, films that moved us, shook us or opened up our minds to new, creative, original ideas. The sort of movies you’ll watch again, or tell your friends to watch, or maybe even store away in an attic so that you can bring it out and share it with your children down the line.   While you think about which films you’re thankful for this year, here are five I’m thankful for.   Watchmen Though it was a tad too long for some, and not all that entertaining for others, I’m just thankful that Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. had the balls to actually make a live-action Watchmen movie, let alone one that was...

The Decade: Film's 10 Best Music Moments In The Aughts

24 November 2009 5:43 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

The Doors and Apocalypse Now. Simon and Garfunkel and The Graduate. Richard Strauss and 2001: A Space Odyssey. Some of the greatest scenes in cinema history would be nothing without their added soundtracks. What if Tarantino had used "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath instead of "Stuck in the Middle With You" by Stealers Wheel for Reservoir Dogs? What about "You Light Up My Life" instead of "Fight The Power" in Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing? There were more than a couple mistakes of this nature in the past decade - the entire Watchmen soundtrack comes to mind - but with the aughts coming to a close let's celebrate the ones that got it right 10. Superbad - 2007 Song: "Panama" by Van Halen Few songs can pump someone up more than 80's hair metal (basically the reason it was invented), and no band did it better than Van Halen. So when »

Watchmen Director's Cut comes to Blu-ray in the UK

24 November 2009 9:56 AM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

For Those who were frustrated over the absence of the Watchmen Director's Cut in the UK, you can find peace and happiness again on Monday (November 30).

Paramount Home Entertainment is releasing the Watchmen (Two-Disc Director's Cut) (Cert 18, 178 mins) on Blu-ray here at last.

The Director's Cut came out in the USA in July and, having been too impatient to wait, I purchased it from the States a while back and can confirm it plays on UK Blu-ray machines.

But for fans who held on to hope of a release over here, or were nervous of ordering the import, your time has come.

This new cut of Zach Snyder's adaptation of the graphic novels runs 17 minutes longer than the original, complete with extra footage not seen in cinemas.

Travel back in time to a very different vision of the mid-1980s. Relations between America and the Soviet Union are strained, to say the least, »

'Lobo' Test Has Been Filmed, Says Producer Joel Silver

23 November 2009 11:15 AM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Fans at next year’s San Diego Comic-Con International may get the first opportunity to see what Guy Ritchie’s big screen adaptation of “Lobo” will look like. Producer Joel Silver has revealed that a “Lobo” test was recently filmed with the annual pop culture event in mind.

“We’re working on ‘Lobo’ now,” said Silver during an interview with Collider. “I was looking at a test we made and I was seeing it through the eyes of [the San Diego] Comic-Con — through the eyes of that audience. It’s important to know that that audience is the biggest in the world. That’s the audience that you want to get.”

Back in September, Jeffery Dean Morgan — perhaps best known to comic fans as The Comedian in Zack Snyder’s adaptation of “Watchmen” — stated that he wants to portray Lobo while on the set of his most recent film, “The Losers.” However, Morgan »

Joel Silver Updates Lobo and Other Movies in Development

22 November 2009 12:10 PM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Producer Joel Silver has an incredible resume, including many of Hollywood's top properties — the Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Predator, and Matrix franchises. His latest film, Ninja Assassin, opens this week and Silver is in various stages of production on eight other movies, with another dozen or more in development.

With so many different projects, it's hard to keep track of the status of all of them. Thankfully, Latino Review caught up with Silver and probed him about several of the fan-favorite films he is working on. While Silver didn't mention anything about the 3-D adaptation of DC Comics' Swamp Thing that he teased back in August, he did say that he is working on Lobo, another DC adaptation. We're working really close on that. It's close, yeah. There is a good shot we can make that happen.

Interview: Kellan Lutz in ‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’ on Chicago, Satiating Fans

19 November 2009 3:56 PM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” knows what it is, what it isn’t and how to quench fans. It can’t say the same, though, for outsiders.

Rating: 2.5/5.0

Sure, there’s no practical reason why Taylor Lautner as the dark and mysterious Jacob Black would need to rip off his shirt just to wipe away a splat of forehead blood from Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan. But some pandering has been allowed – and even required this time around – in order to satiate a global legion of fans that these filmmakers have as putty in their hands.

Following Catherine Hardwicke’s direction of “Twilight,” which began the phenomenon of a $37 million film that grossed $384 million globally, director Chris Weitz knew he had to graduate from a lake to an ocean in the sequel that even more fans have been anticipating.

Zack Snyder Starts To Fill In His Guardians Cast

18 November 2009 9:59 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

While it.s nice to see Zack Snyder stepping out of his comfort zone by directing Guardians of Ga'Hoole, an 3D animated feature, is that really so far from what he already does? 300 and Watchmen were both filmed primarily in front of green screens and rendered later with computers. The truth is, I.d like to see Snyder step back into more traditional filmmaking like he did with Dawn of the Dead, but that may take a while. With the release date for Guardians only a year away, the cast is starting to fill up quite nicely. According to THR, Sam Neill, Geoffrey Rush, Hugo Weaving and David Wenham have all joined the voice cast of the animated feature. The flick follows a young owl who is keen on his dad.s tales about a group of hero owls called the Guardians of Ga.Hoole who saved the owl race. »

Interview: Carla Gugino

18 November 2009 5:45 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Carla Gugino has spent the better part of the last decade playing some of the most complicated and interesting female characters in Hollywood. After early roles in lighthearted fare like Son in Law, she played an appropriately combative counterpart for Michael J. Fox's deputy Mayor on Spin City before appearing in Wayne Wang's The Center of the World as a troubled seductress, Robert Rodriguez' Sin City as a tough-as-nails parole officer, Ridley Scott's American Gangster as Russell Crowe's exasperated ex-wife, and most recently in Zack Snyder's Watchmen as a sexpot superheroine with a pitch-black past. This month, she's acting in Sebastian Gutierrez' Women in Trouble, where she plays a porn star coming to terms with the news that she's pregnant.

Cinematical recently spoke to Gugino at the film's Los Angeles press day, where in between pointing out some of the bruises she earned »

Alan Moore's Birthday, A Deadpool Summit And 'Doctor Who: The Waters of Mars' In Today's Twitter Report

The writer of "Watchmen" and "V for Vendetta" might not be on Twitter, but Twitter knows that it's his birthday today. Warren Ellis, Neil Gaiman and loads of other comickers tweeted well-wishing out to Alan Moore (even though he doesn't have his own account... that we know of).

Back in New York, Marvel's Spider-Man summit appears to have subsided, and Victor Gischler inquired about a hypothetical Deadpool summit, which Fred Van Lente in turn discussed with him. After the jump, you can read my little Twitter mixtape about what they had to say, along with Mark Waid's reaction to the latest "Doctor Who" special and Jimmy Palmiotti's thoughts on Johnny Depp in Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland."

It's all in the Twitter Report for November 18, 2009.

Women in Trouble's Carla Gugino Talks About Her Sucker Punch Duet

Carla Gugino is carving out an unusual career that ranges from playing a secret-spy Mom in the family-friendly franchise Spy Kids to a pregnant porn star in Women in Trouble. Gugino is currently re-teaming up with Watchmen's director Zack Snyder in Sucker Punch, playing a character that Gugino told the Palm Beach Post will require her to perform more than just a dual role.

I'm a psychiatrist at an asylum and, in an alternate world, a dominatrix, choreographer and madam in a brothel. I sing and dance. I'm Polish and I have red hair. That's all I'm going to say. I have this amazing scene where I do this wild stunt over and over. All of a sudden I was like, "I'm covered in bruises. How did that happen?"

Gugino told Movieline that she won't be alone in her song and dance routine, either.

Ray Bradbury To Pitch Miniseries

15 November 2009 7:30 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Ray Bradbury has signed on with White Oak Films with the idea of creating a miniseries.  The miniseries is structured as a 6-hour project broken down into six 1-hour episodes, all based on different short stories of Bradbury’s.

The plan is for each episode to be directed by a different person, none of whom have been officially signed yet. Who they pick to direct each episode will be very important, as they’re letting the director select their own favorite short story of Bradbury’s.

Ray Bradbury has authored many a short story and they’ve all become stories that have inspired generations of readers.  Some notables that he’s authored “Fahrenheit 451″, “The Martian Chronicles”, “Something Wicked This Way Comes” and many others.

His famous books aren’t short stories obviously, but the directors have a list of over 400 short stories or novelettes to choose from.
