There has been a lot of speculation in recent months that Spider-Man 4 may feature The Lizard, Vulture, and Black Cat, as its villains. MovieLine is today claiming that they have an inside tip telling them that Vulture will be one of the film’s two villains, but The Lizard and Black Cat will not be appearing, although Felicia Hardy (who is Black Cat’s alter ego) will be in the film as a new villain named The Vulturess. They claim that this new villain/Felicia Hardy will be played by Anne Hathaway (Brokeback Mountain, Get Smart) and that John Malkovich (Dangerous Liaisons, Burn After Reading) will play Vulture.
Personally I have never been a big fan of the Vulture character and think that there are many better villains to choose from for the next movie, and furthermore I cannot believe this new rumor of Black Cat being turned into The Vulturess is true, »

With filming wrapped and director Edgar Wright in the editing room working on putting "Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World" together, the only thing left to do is wait for the film's 2010 release date... and to ask as many of the actors involved as possible for details about the movie.
Jason Schwartzman told us last month that Wright "would be Ticketholder #1 in line for ['Scott Pilgrim']" if he wasn't directing it. But Wright wasn't the only fan on set. When we caught up with Michael Cera on his promotional tour for "Youth in Revolt," the film's very own Scott Pilgrim admitted he was a longtime fan of the series as well.
"I read them before there was even a movie. There were only a few out. There were only like two out at the time, but yeah, I loved them. They're so great," said Cera. "There's five out now and the sixth one »

The film is beginning to sound like Spider-Man 3, and we all know that is not a good thing
The nights are drawing in and it's chilly outside. Yes, it's winter and thus the perfect time for Hollywood to start banging on about its big summer blockbusters. That's why, right now, you can barely move for photos and snippets and rumours about Iron Man 2.
The point of them, of course, is to gee everybody up into a breathless froth ready for its release in May. However – and I might alone here – every new snippet of information about Iron Man 2 is making me a little bit more worried about it.
Although it ended up getting overshadowed by The Dark Knight, the first Iron Man felt like a breath of fresh air when it was released last year. Although it had to balance Tony Stark's origins story with Gwyneth Paltrow, »

Sibling rivalry is a common theme in films, but Brothers takes that universal subject and places it in a new context. There's more at play — and at stake — in Jim Sheridan's awards hopeful than just family interaction. Grief, guilt, and identity lie at the torn heart of this sometimes disturbing but always moving film.
At the beginning of Brothers, the family of Captain Sam Cahill (Tobey Maguire, Spider-Man 3) is reluctant to see the Marine return to Afghanistan for another tour of duty. His wife, Grace (Natalie Portman, The Other Boleyn Girl), jokingly asks to come with him, and his daughters (Bailee Madison and Taylor Geare) plead with him to stay. He has an uneasy relationship with his brother, Tommy (Jake Gyllenhaal, Zodiac), who has just been released from prison in time for Sam to leave. Trouble-making Tommy has always stood in his brother's shadow, and it's never been »

Not only is “Avatar” not the most expensive movie ever made -- its total budget and marketing costs fall somewhere below $400 million, according to Fox -- but it looks well-poised to turn a profit. For James Cameron, a man who seemingly doesn’t like to be less than No. 1 at anything, maybe it’s bad news that “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End,” “Spider-Man 3” and “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” each apparently cost more than his 3D interstellar adventure epic. And despite claims that the production and mar... »

It was understandably tough to get Tobey Maguire to commit to a fourth Spider-Man movie. After the huge ball of lame that was Spider-Man 3, it.s a miracle that any actor would want to be involved in a fourth film. But now that Sam Raimi has gotten a chance to go back to his roots (Drag Me To Hell) and seems to understand where Spider-Man 3 went wrong, there.s a good chance that the fourth installment of the franchise will actually be pretty good. Besides, it.s not like Tobey Maguire has much else to do. Talking to The Boston Globe, Tobey discussed his initial hesitation to sign on to the fourquel. .It.s not that I was reluctant,.. he said. .For me, it.s a big process to decide whether or not to do a role. Action superstar Bruce Willis (the Die Hard franchise) headlines another spectacular thrill ride in the gripping film Surrogates, coming to Blu-ray® Hi-Def and DVD on January 26, 2010 from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment. Directed by Jonathan Mostow (Terminator Three: Rise of the Machines, U-571), Surrogates is a heart-pounding futuristic tale of splintered identity, treachery and murder. Both DVD and Blu-ray editions come with an array of bonus features that not only invite viewers to delve deep into the darkly imaginative world of Surrogates, but describe how this futuristic idea is not such a far-off reality.
Based on the enormously popular graphic novel created by Robert Venditti and Brett Weldele, Surrogates also stars Radha Mitchell (Silent Hill), Ving Rhames (Mission Impossible), James Cromwell (Spider-man 3) and Rosamund Pike (An Education).
FBI agent Tom Greer (Bruce Willis) lives in a world where robotic surrogates stand in for people, protecting them from violence, contagion—and the appearance of aging. »

Yahoo! Movies has just debuted the first poster for Iron Man 2. That high-pitched noise you just heard was fanboys across the globe squealing their minds out to see War Machine (a.k.a. Col. James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes, played by Don Cheadle) standing behind Iron Man. Of course, if you have no idea about the Iron Man mythology, I wonder if you look at this think it’s like the Black Costume from Spider-Man 3 or if Iron Man is feeling shoulder-mounted-chain-gun-envy.
Hit the jump to check out the full poster. Iron Man 2 hits theaters on May 7, 2010.

Tobey Maguire has addressed previous rumor by mentioning that he was unwilling to return to the fourth installment of "Spider-Man" film franchise, "Spider-Man 4". "It's not that I was reluctant," he said in a recent interview with The Boston Globe.
"For me, it's a big process to decide whether or not to do a role," the father of two children added. "I have to want to wake up in the morning and feel like I can't wait to get to work. I've got to feel okay about leaving my kids for 12 or 13 hours a day for five months. It's a big commitment."
During the interview, the 34-year-old also shared about his willingness to develop his Spider-Man character and his alter ego Peter Parker. "Hopefully I'll be able to evolve the character in a new direction," Maguire said. "He'll still be Peter Parker, but I hope I can move him forward »

Apparently Twilighters aren’t one-trick box office ponies after all. A week after making “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” the third best 3-day opening film of all time (behind only “The Dark Knight” and “Spider-Man 3″), the teens came back for a second straight week to keep “New Moon”, the second entry in the “Twilight” series at the number one spot. With a studio estimated $42.5 million in its second week of release, the teen fantasy about sparkling vampires, hunky werewolves, and lovestruck teenage girls has grossed over $230 million so far at the domestic box office, and $362 million worldwide. I think it’s safe to say that Bella and crew are here to stay. Although it hung onto the #1 spot, “New Moon” just barely survived a blind side charge by Sandra Bullock’s “The Blind Side”. The Bullock sports movie, based on the true story of football player Michael Oher (now »

Everyone was wrong. That's the only conclusion one can draw from the actual box-office figures for The Twilight Saga: New Moon when compared not only with weekend forecasts but also with official estimates released on Sunday. Sunday's figures were based on actual results for Friday and Saturday and an educated guess as to how much the movie would earn on Sunday. In the end it turned out that Sunday's business exceeded Summit Entertainment's guesstimate by a whopping $2.1 million. In the end, the movie actually earned $142.8 million for the three days -- the most any film has ever made outside of summer and behind last year's The Dark Knight (with $158 million) and 2007's Spider-Man 3 ($151 million) on the all-time list. Before it opened on Friday, box-office fortune tellers had predicted it would earn $80-100 million, and those predicting it would cross the $100-million mark were dismissed as moon-blinded know-nothings. But while the domestic estimates seemed to have been conservatively lowballed, the international ones seemed downright off-base. Summit said late Monday that the film actually earned $132.1 million -- or $14 million more than the Sunday projection. That brought the worldwide total to $274.9 million. Today's (Tuesday) Los Angeles Times explained the discrepancy by observing that, unlike the major studios, Summit does not have its own foreign distribution operation but instead relies on a number of smaller distributors who take their time reporting ticket sales. Indeed, some of them have yet to disclose weekend totals in some markets. »

It didn’t have the biggest opening weekend ever, but New Moon did have the biggest opening day ever: $72.7 million on Friday alone, which beat out The Dark Knight’s $67.2 million, even though New Moon was playing at 342 fewer locations. And even though it was a regular ol’ nonsummer weekday, which means kids were at school and grownups were at work. (Oh, and New Moon’s takings from midnight screenings -- $26.3 million -- set a new record, too.) For the whole-weekend record, New Moon clocked in at No. 3, behind Dark Knight and Spider-Man 3. According to Box Office Mojo: New Moon distributor Summit Entertainment's exit polling indicated that 80 percent of the audience was female and 50 percent was under 21 years old, which means the sequel skewed more female and younger than the first Twilight. »

On top of the already set-in-stone release date of May 6th, 2011 for the highly-anticipated Spider-Man 4, we’ve heard word of a shooting start date of March, 2010. That word came just last month from Spidey director, Sam Raimi, who was quoted as saying, “We’re hoping that it’s the first week in March.” Since then speculation and rumors around Spider-Man 4 have run rampant, particularly regarding who will be the villain(s) of the film, as well as who would play the villain of the Black Cat, if the character is indeed to be included (as rumored) in the next film.
To reiterate what Raimi said about the start date, Spider-Man himself, Tobey Maguire, recently echoed the statement. HitFix reports that while at a press conference for his intense-looking upcoming “brother drama” entitled, well, Brothers, Maguire revealed that Spider-Man 4 will begin filming in February or March 2010, which places »

Back in October, director Sam Raimi hinted that one of the next villains to face down Peter Parker in Spider-Man 4 might be Dr. Curt Connors, Aka "The Lizard." In response to an MTV fan poll that picked The Lizard, Raimi said: I love the Lizard. There's a great story there in the Marvel comic books about Dr. Connors.
While Raimi's comments may not be an indication that The Lizard will feature prominently in Spider-Man 4, recent comments Tobey Maguire has made to MTV lend more weight to that possibility.
I'm more familiar with Lizard and Mysterio, and I don't know — I like them as villains. I think they're great, and Lizard obviously has a really personal relationship with Peter Parker, so we often will go towards that kind of stuff.
Production on Spider-Man 4 is slated to begin in March.

The UK has officially caught Stephenie Meyer fever after The Twilight Saga: New Moon's strident opening weekend, and the Coens' A Serious Man deals another little cut to star prestige
The winner
When the original Twilight movie arrived in the UK last December, it opened with a decent £2.51m – not a bad number, considering Stephenie Meyer's books had yet to achieve blockbuster status. But it was far, far behind the Us debut figure for the picture: $69.6m (£42.1m).
What a difference a year makes. With the first Twilight film a huge phenomenon on DVD, and the Meyer books belatedly reaching a wide UK readership, Edward Cullen and Bella Swan have ascended to iconic characters here, and Britain has succumbed to R-Pattz mania. Now sequel New Moon has debuted in the UK with £11.68m, which is a whopping 4.6 times the opening weekend of the original film. In three days, »

The Twilight Saga: New Moon landed the third best opening weekend of all time in the USA, and the biggest this year, with earnings of $142.8million.
Its astonishing opening weekend puts it behind only The Dark Knight and Spider-Man 3 in the all-time league table of film openings.
As I reported earlier, the vampire romance sequel had already shattered the USA records for midnight showings and opening day takings.
Polls showed that - unsurprisingly - 80 per cent of New Moon's audience was female and 50 per cent under 21.
Outside North America, the film took $124.1million, with the UK getting the highest overseas take of $18.7million. Including early openers and previews, the foreign takings amounted to s $132.1million, giving a total worldwide opening of $274.9 million, according to latest updated figures from Variety.
Ticket sales for the previous weekend's top film, the disaster flick 2012, fell by 59 per cent as it was swamped »

Sandra Bullock sports drama "The Blind Side" was another surprise over the weekend as it came in No.2 with an opening of $34.5 million. That's the best opening of Bullock.s career, beating the $33.6 million opening of Disney's "The Proposal" earlier in June. Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner in The Twilight Saga: New Moon The Twilight Saga: New Moon, directed by Chris Weitz, and starring Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner, did even better than its studio, Summit Entertainment, had estimated. According to final box-office figures for the weekend, New Moon earned $142.8 million in the Us/Canada market, more than $2 million than predicted yesterday. That’s also more than double what Twilight made in its first three days a year ago ($69.6 million) and almost three-quarters of that film’s total domestic earnings. The Twilight Saga: New Moon has had the third biggest opening weekend ever, after Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight ($158.4 million) and Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 ($151.1 million). Twilight 'New Moon' movie bit a huge $142.8 million over the weekend. Summit Entertainment's number one movie, "Twilight Saga: New Moon" banked in a whopping 142.8 million dollars in its opening weekend, according to Reuters. This put them in 3rd place for the all time sales record for opening weekend releases. Batman's "The Dark Night" still leads the pack with $158 million, and "Spider-Man 3" comes in 2nd place with $151 million. However, "New Moon" does lead the pack for the midnight screenings record at $26.3 million. I personally thought it had a real good chance to possibly beat out the all-time record, but oh well. I'm sure Summit Entertainment is still real happy with the results, and should announce the "Breaking Dawn" 4th sequel pretty soon. They're nuts,if they don't. »

Summit Entertainment’s The Twilight Saga New Moon posted the third largest opening weekend in history from Friday-Sunday with $142.8 million. The monster sequel also gathered another estimated $132.1 million in 24 international markets for a global total of $274.9 million.
Predominantly female fans (80%) lined up early to gawk at Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner on screen again. They set a new midnight record of $26.3 million and the highest opening day in history with $72.7 million, swiping the top spots from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and The Dark Knight respectively.
The vampire follow-up failed to grab the biggest opening weekend though, landing underneath the Batman sequel ($158.4M) and Spider-Man 3 ($151.1M). It did, however, beat Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen in weekend and 3-day numbers, though it should be noted the giant robot movie opened on a Wednesday this summer.
The sequel was virtually critic-proof, posting huge numbers even after 30% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. »
