Fans Of 'V,' 'FlashForward' Wait Until Later To Watch

11 hours ago | AirlockAlpha.com | See recent Airlock Alpha news »

"V" and "FlashForward" aren't necessarily seeing too much competition, but fans of the two new ABC genre shows are preferring to record and watch episodes later. The two were among the top 10 shows with the biggest timeshifted audiences, according to a new report by Advertising Age. "V" was the bigger of the two, earning 3.6 million new viewers from DVR watchers followed by "FlashForward" with 3.1 million new viewers. "V" was topped only by "House," which added 5 million viewers for Fox, along with "Grey's Anatomy" on ABC, "The Office" on NBC, "NCIS" on CBS and "The Mentalist" on CBS. While having such a large following through DVR might be good to help establish a show's viewership base, it doesn't necessarily mean that these two freshman dramas are safe. Advertisers don't want to …

Gays Aren't Celebrating "Valentine's Day" New Trailer

14 hours ago | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

This is as close as they get in the trailer.

We've been keeping you updated on the star-studded movie Valentine's Day since we first heard Bradley Cooper was playing a gay man in it. We had fun with the fantasy casting, and even though Hollywood didn't take our advice, we weren't complaining about them casting Grey's Anatomy's Eric Dane in the role of the closeted football player boyfriend.

We weren't thrilled about the teaser trailer when it came out, because it almost looked like Julia Roberts and Bradley were a couple, but we mostly laughed it off since it was a teaser.

The full length trailer dropped over the weekend, and once again, Eric and Bradley don't appear together in it. In fact, the picture above is as close as they get, which is consecutive frames in the trailer. Romantic, huh?

Has Defying Gravity defied expectations?

19 hours ago | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

'Grey's Anatomy in space' didn't exactly sound promising. But for a programme with that billing, Defying Gravity – which finishes tonight – hasn't been at all bad

Tonight the crew of the Antares bow out, their bold mission brought to an end not by the many dangers of outer space, but by the more mundane earthbound economics of Us network television. What was to be a six-year mission – a tour around the solar system – only makes it as far as Venus. But Defying Gravity does go out in style, which for those who stuck with it, is some small compensation.

When the first episodes hit television screens, initial reactions to the show were largely negative – partly, I'd wager, because Defying Gravity had been described as Grey's Anatomy in space. The first two words were even almost enough to put a diehard science fiction fan like me off – although fortunately, the "in …

The AfterEllen.com 2009 Visibility Awards

20 hours ago | AfterEllen.com | See recent AfterEllen.com news »

In our annual Visibility Awards, we formally recognize the people who have positively or negatively impacted lesbian and bi visibility in American entertainment during the year. (See previous years here: 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004.)

From Best Movie to Worst Song to Lesbian/Bi Woman of the Year, these awards recognize the television shows, movies, music, books and people who entertained, inspired, or disappointed us in 2009.

Last year, some of the category winners were chosen by both the AfterEllen.com staff and AfterEllen.com readers. This year, AfterEllen.com staff and contributing writers chose the winners for each category, as readers will be given the opportunity to vote on a wider range of topics and categories in our first annual Lesbian/Bi Women's Choice Awards in January.

Once again this year, we've included international people, shows and movies as a reflection of the increasing awareness of lesbian and bisexual visibility around the world made possible by the Internet. …

'Grey's Anatomy' Casts Love Interest for Bailey

20 December 2009 2:14 PM, PST | buddytv.com | See recent BuddyTV news »

Things are always chaotic on the relationships department for most people on Seattle Grace, and Bailey (Chandra Wilson) seems to be the only one who's (relatively) immune to all the hullabaloo. Sure, she's got her own sordid love life - it was even highlighted on the dinner table on Grey's Anatomy's holiday episode thanks to her daddy - but overall, Bailey's been quite able to separate her personal life from her professional duties on the ABC medical series.

From the looks of it, though, that's going to change soon. TV Guide reports that Grey's Anatomy has cast a love interest for our beloved little tyrant.

I've Seen This 'Valentine's Day' Poster Before

20 December 2009 3:54 AM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

You know how you can tell if your movie's cast is too big? When you need three columns on the poster to list them all. That's the curse of Valentine's Day, a movie we're not so much looking forward to. The film is quite obviously trying to appeal to every single female in the world, based on the talent assembled. It's not just Julia Roberts, Taylor Swift, Shirley MacLaine, the Jessicas and Jennifer, but also two of the Grey's Anatomy guys.

So ordinarily, I probably wouldn't present a poster for a romantic comedy, but in and of itself it's interesting because I expected much more Photoshopping - these people almost have visible lines in their faces! - and the design is a neat way to tackle the problem of having more than a dozen principal cast members.

Even on its own, though, that's probably not enough, but I noticed something about the poster most wouldn't, …

Julie Benz Bids Farewell to Rita, Dexter Viewers

18 December 2009 4:42 AM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

In the days following the Dexter season four finale, we've heard from show producers and show stars such as John Lithgow and Michael C. Hall.

Everyone had a lot to say about Rita's shocking death, but fans have been waiting all week to hear from Julie Benz herself. How did she react when told of her character's demise? Will Rita turn into a ghost?

E! News asked these questions, and many more, of the actress. Her candid replies are below...

On any kind of return: "There has been no talk of me coming back to the series in any way. A lot of people have been begging me to tell them that I'm going to come back, and I'm like, 'Rita's dead!' Rita is dead and Trinity killed her... I don't think it could get any more obvious that Trinity killed Rita. Rita is dead."

On reaction to her …

Finally, Someone We Know on 'Grey's Webisode

16 December 2009 4:08 PM, PST | buddytv.com | See recent BuddyTV news »

Yes, someone other than the interns and the Mercy Westers are dropping by Joe's bar on an episode of Seattle Grace: On Call, the five-minute webisodes that ABC runs every Thursday in lieu of a regular Grey's Anatomy until it returns next year. Reception hasn't exactly been warm over the webisodes primarily because Grey's fans know very little of these people, except Joe, and perhaps not enough to relate to them.

TV Guide reports that at least one main character is dropping by Joe's bar and Seattle Grace: On Call, but the catch is, it won't happen until the final episode on January 21. A brawl ensues on the webisode finale and Owen (Kevin McKidd) saves the day. There's been a brewing love triangle among these interns, and Owen, not so happy with his relationship with Cristina (Sandra Oh) at that point, just happens to be at Joe's to cool off. …

Gawker vs Eric Dane and his naked tape: Gawker wins, for now

16 December 2009 3:58 PM, PST | Zap2It - The Dish Rag | See recent Zap2It - The Dish Rag news »

On Monday, a court ruled in favor of Gawker's motion to strike "Grey's Anatomy" actor Eric Dane and wife Rebecca Gayhart's claims to recover statutory damages and attorney's fees in their case against the Internet site for posting a tape of them engaging in some naked antics with former beauty queen Kari Anne Peniche.

Team McSteamy is suing Gawker for over $1 million in damages, claiming copyright infringement.

Gawker is mounting a "fair use" argument because the video was posted for people to critique and comment on, plus they argue that the video wasn't copyrighted at the time it was posted. The registered copyright was done after the fact, by Dane's lawyers.

A big part of copyright law is arguing that you've infringed on the copyright owner's right to make money off of or sell the piece of material in question. Were Dane and Gayhart planning on making a profit from their (totally boring) tape? …

Grey's Anatomy: Cristina Up for a Big Decision

16 December 2009 2:17 PM, PST | buddytv.com | See recent BuddyTV news »

If Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) as a character has a "flaw" it's probably her overzealousness in terms of work. This has caused, among others, rifts in her relationships with people. TV Guide reports that Yang will be in the same position when Grey's Anatomy returns next year.

Says TV Guide, "If there's one thing we know about Dr. Yang, it's that her career always comes first. Has her time with Owen changed that? We'll find out when Cristina gets stuck with a very difficult decision that could drastically affect not only her future, but also one of her closest relationships."

DVR’S Changing Viewing Habits

16 December 2009 12:59 PM, PST | Studio Briefing - TV News | See recent Studio Briefing - TV News news »

Appearing to clash with a study issued just last week by Nielsen Research indicating that fewer than 1 percent of viewers use DVRs to watch programs at a later time, Horizon Media issued its own study Wednesday concluding that DVRs are permanently altering viewing habits. According to the Horizon study, details of which were published Tuesday on the Advertising Age website, 11 fall season programs were regularly "time-shifted" by viewers this season, versus three last year. They included Fox's House, which was watched on DVRs by 5.04 million viewers. ABC's Grey's Anatomy was time-shifted by close to 4.97 million viewers. NBC's The Office was recorded by 3.81 million. If accurate, the figures are significant. House averages a same-day audience of about 13 million; Grey's, 16 million; and The Office, 9 million.

The Good Wife Review: "Lifeguard"

16 December 2009 9:19 AM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

This episode of The Good Wife was a great showcase for the entire cast.

What began as a seemingly simple case for Alicia led to the discovery that a judge, and long-time friend of Will's, was as corrupt as they come. This storyline was set against an offer made to Diane to leave the firm and become a judge.

Read our recap of "Lifeguard" to fully understand how every character at the firm intersected on this case.

The installment highlighted every positive aspect of The Good Wife, most notably its solid cast, straightforward storytelling and mature point of view. There are no special effects here, no dumbing down of plots for the audience, no need for surprise endings.

There are simply solid stories and slow character build-up. There are also realistic relationships. Will and Diane, for instance, are clearly not good friends. But there's a healthy amount of respect there …
