Norway's Bent Hamer is the latest European director to tackle the work of that American poet laureate of the slums, Charles Bukowski. Matt Dillon shuffles through the film with disaffected but bemused attitude as a quasi-autobiographical Bukowski stand-in Henry Chinaski -- itinerate day laborer, resolute writer and full-time drinker and Lili Taylor, Fisher Stevens, and Marisa Tomei co-star.
