Despite it having a somewhat subdued ending as compared to the book, the film adaptation of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" is actually quite good. There are very few things about it that I would change. It may not be a note-perfect translation of the book, but it nails the key beats and keeps the characters moving along the arc they've been traveling since the first movie.
That said, I'll never turn up my nose at a deleted scene. It's the main allure of home video shopping for me, getting to see bits of the movie that didn't make it into the final cut. This is especially true of the "Harry Potter" movies, because there's so much great material from the books which simply doesn't fit into the confines of a two and a half hour running time. In the below clip, you get to see Harry (Daniel Radcliffe »

Friends, lovers, countrymen... lend me your wallets. (Or something like that). It is time once again for This Week in Blu-ray, our look at what is hip and happenin' in the world of those weird, formerly expensive high def. DVD players. And as we get closer to ChristmaHanaKwanzika, it looks as if Hollywood is breaking out the big guns. Universal has a gangster movie with more star-power than gun-power, Warner Bros. is hitting us with the latest magical edition of their biggest franchise of the decade and Disney is encouraging us to get Lost. All-in-all, it's a big week. So lets get started, post-haste. Read on below and be enlightened. And remember to support Fsr by buying via our Amazon links below. We need to keep the lights (and Dr. Cole Abaius’ creepy “laboratory”) up and running here at the HQ... Say what you want about Top Gun and Tom Cruise, blah, blah. Top Gun was like no other movie before or really since in its accurate and realistic portrayal of aerial combat. In fact one of my uncles’ Navy buddies was one of the head stunt pilots for that film and his one of the mission commanders fixing the Hubble Telescope in space.
THR has reported that Tmu Pictures is developing a Michael Chait directed action-adventure film called War Birds, the story of an Air Force veteran-turned-reckless airshow re-enactment pilot who is then pulled into the underground culture of illegal, real-life aerial combat.
What’s even cooler is that in this world of CGI reliance this movie plans to use real airplanes and aerial sequences, including authentic P-51 Mustangs, P-38 Lightnings, F4U Corsairs and a B-17 Flying Fortress as well as modern military helicopters and jets.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Harry's older now, and that means more darkness, more danger, and of course, more lust. One away from the final installment(s), Dumbledore is preparing Harry for battle while his friends are overcome with the love bug. In her review, Jette Kernion wrote that the film is "a tight suspense film that isn't too scary for older kids, with a good dose of humor, Young Love, and charm." Save from some over-the-top moments in love and Lestrange shenanigans, Buy it. Also on Blu-ray.

The exuberant food personality that brought French cooking stateside finally gets a film, sharing time with the blogger who dared to make every single recipe in one year. Overall, Nora Ephron's film is cute, but the charm, power, and driving force of the film lies with Meryl Streep's Julia. In her review, »

We at Fsr love to drink. And we know that many of you love to drink, as well. This shared love has led us to a brand new (though not exactly new) feature here at Fsr: The Weekly DVD Drinking Game. Every week we will chose a DVD release and give you a few simple steps toward drunken stupidity (or cinematic tolerance). This week we're not only giving you one, not two, but three drinking games. Behold, the third in our series... Anyone who has seen or read Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (and that’s pretty much every human being on the planet... even those in the wild bush tribes of Africa, I’m sure) will realize that there’s a lot of potions in this movie. Some might call it a metaphor for wizardly childhood adolescence. I, in my infinite maturity, consider it a reason to drink your own potions while watching the DVD »

This Week in DVD & Blu-ray is a column that compiles all the latest info regarding new DVD and Blu-ray releases, sales, and exclusive deals from stores including Target, Best Buy and Fry’s. Harry Potter And The Half-blood Prince (DVD available as single-disc and 2-Disc Digital Copy Special Edition) The Harry Potter franchise has marked a rare occasion in cinema, or perhaps even a first. To my knowledge, there is no other long-running, self-contained film series in history where the later entries have improved considerably on their predecessors. As the young Harry Potter has matured, so too have the films depicting his wizarding adventures, turning what initially began as a family friendly adaptation of, essentially, fluff wish-fulfillment silliness, into an artistically rendered journey of kids attempting to balance their growth into adults against the never-ending onslaught of horrors that plague their lives. Sequels in the Transformers, Harry Potter and Twilight series helped boost year's total to $9.61bn, with James Cameron's ballyhooed Avatar still to come next week
It's only the start of December in a year blighted by the worldwide economic downturn, but the Us box-office record has already been smashed for the second year in a row.
Thanks to blockbuster sequels such as Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and The Twilight Saga: New Moon, as well as Pixar's latest, Up, cinemagoers have spent more than $9.61bn (£5.89bn) this year, just beating last year's record-breaking haul of $9.59bn, according to Variety.
With the Christmas session still ahead, it's likely that the Us box office will top $10bn for the first time. The figures bear out experts' predictions that cinemas would continue to prosper in difficult financial periods. Despite rising ticket prices, filmgoing is still a relatively inexpensive form of entertainment. »

'We're terrified we're not going to get it right,' actor says of splitting final book into two movies.

As the DVD of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" hits shelves Tuesday (December 8), the first peeks at the next and final films in the series — the two parts of "Deathly Hallows" — have begun to hit the Web: two photos and even a teaser trailer.
Behind that pristine multimedia, however, lies a production still very much in flux, as the cast told MTV News in recent interviews. Perhaps "flux" is even putting mildly, compared to star Daniel Radcliffe's characterization.
"It's chaos and it's fear and we're terrified we're not going to get it right, and it's absolute madness with rewrites and script changes and scripts not being written and then coming," he said with a smile. "It's just mad. »

Ak 100: 25 Films by Akira Kurosawa (Criterion Collection) Sure, there are some of 2009's bigger film releases hitting DVD and Blu-ray this week, but this set from Criterion is undoubtedly the release of the week. This set offers 25 of Akira Kurosawa's films, four of which had never been released on DVD, and an illustrated book featuring an introduction and notes on each of the films by Stephen Prince (The Warrior's Camera: The Cinema of Akira Kurosawa) and a remembrance by Donald Richie (The Films of Akira Kurosawa).
I was not sent a copy for review, but DVD Beaver has an extensive three page look at the set right here. If you are interested, it is selling for $284.99 at Amazon as of the posting of this round-up. A list of the films included is directly below followed by a »

Did you know there was an extra special sneak peek of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I on the new Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince DVD? Well there is – and not only are there some behind-the-scenes shots of filming on the final two-part installment in the Harry Potter series, but there's also a pretty creepy teaser trailer to boot! The entire promo runs a little over two minutes long, and it begins with an introduction by producer David Heyman and director David Yates, followed by a pretty meaty teaser trailer for Deathly Hallows: Part I that picks up with Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Hermione (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint) after they leave Hogwarts and head to the mean streets of London to try to take down the evil Voldemort once and for...

We’ve had the first two pictures (here and here) and now, courtesy of the DVD release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, out now, we have our first true look at part 1 of the final story – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, due in theatres next year.
The footage, which I assume has been filmed off of a TV set, features an introduction with director David Yates and producer David Heyman and (very) sneaky 50 second peek at the film. Check out the footage below:
Voldemort’s power is growing stronger. He now has control over the Ministry of Magic and Hogwarts. Harry, Ron, and Hermione decide to finish Dumbledore’s work and find the rest of the Horcruxes to defeat the Dark Lord. But little hope remains for them, so everything they do must go as planned.

UK Release: 19th November 2010

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is in stores tomorrow (December 8) on DVD and Blu-ray, and the disc includes a nearly two minute featurette for the next installment of wizard adventures. The first half of the clip includes director David Yates and producer David Heyman introducing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 along with brief behind-the-scenes shots from the sequel. This is followed by a 50-second teaser trailer for the movie.
J.K. Rowling’s seventh and final Potter book has been split into two halves for the screen, scheduled for November 2010 and July 2011. The cast has been filming the back-to-back movies since April 2009, and Warner Bros has already released two official images from the film. Plus Yates, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint did interviews on set, which you can read about here. Three words: Naked wizard dreams.

I was kinda hoping Warner Brothers would release something official online soon, but unfortunately they seem content to let this DVD rip of the first teaser for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows make the rounds instead. It is taken from the DVD for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (in stores tomorrow), and the quality is decent, but there's really not much to it. Half of the video is just behind-the-scenes interviews anyway. Still, if you're a big Harry Potter fan, you'll probably be glad to get any glimpse at all of the next film. I don't have much to say except that I'm glad the series is finally wrapping up and I hope that the conclusion will be worthy of all the build-up. Of course, the thought of sitting through not one but Two more films is still a bit off-putting. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part »

From MTV.Com: In "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," Daniel Radcliffe and his co-stars went rom-com, embracing lovey-dovey storylines about broken hearts, unrequited affection and what it feels like finally to connect with your true love. It worked: The film raked in over $300 million at the domestic box office, making it the second-biggest film of the year so far and the highest-grossing "Potter" flick since 2001's "Sorcerer's Stone."
With the DVD hitting shelves this Tuesday, Radcliffe and the rest of the cast spoke with MTV News about why they believe "Half-Blood Prince" made so much freaking money ($929 million worldwide). Their answers were clear: romance!

You’ll be able to see this teaser trailer for part one of the two-parter “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” installment tomorrow when Warner Bros. releases “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” on DVD and Blu-ray, or you can just take a gander at it below. “Deathly Hallows” finds our three young heroes continuing their battle against the evil Voldemort. Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint return as the three spunky lads, while Ralph Fiennes is the bad guy. “The Deathly Hallows” haunts screens November 19, 2010. Part two is due out the year after. Note: The video starts off with some interview, but let it run, and the teaser trailer is next. Also, in case the first vid gets pulled, I’ve included just the teaser trailer from another source. »
