Secret Identity: Who Should Play Black Cat In 'Spider-Man 4'?

12 November 2009 3:46 PM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Based on the latest superhero movie rumors making the rounds, it looks like I caught the wrong cat last week. Speculation is running rampant that Peter Parker will go web-to-claw against Black Cat in "Spider-Man 4," with "Wedding Crashers" leading lady Rachel McAdams a supposed frontrunner for the role.

Black Cat's involvement in the superhero sequel is still not official—indeed, Splash Page editor Rick Marshall had his own anonymously-sourced scoop on who the "Spider-Man 4" villain could be—but given the tenacity of these rumors, I feel compelled to weigh in just in case Felicia Hardy winds up terrorizing Pete's next big screen adventure.

These are my contenders for the role—hit the comments section and leave some of your own suggestions!

Elisha Cuthbert: Despite her typical damsel-in-distress role as Jack Bauer's daughter on "24," Elisha Cuthbert has actually shown a lot of promise in the few action »

Screenwriter couriered C.O.D. check by Paramount

21 October 2009 7:58 AM, PDT | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

Screenwriter Carl Ellsworth has been hired by Paramount Pictures to rewrite C.O.D., an action-thriller that currently doesn't have a director attached to it. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter (because that's what they do, report on stuff), C.O.D. is about a NYC bike courier who has to deliver three live bombs or else another will go off and take out his family. Why can't terrorists just pay bike couriers like everyone else? I guess that's part of what makes them bad guys.

DreamWorks bought the C.O.D. script in March 2008. When Dw split from Paramount, one of the projects that Paramount got custody of was C.O.D. The original script was written by Lars Jacobson. Barry Josephson (Bones, Aliens in the Attic) and former movie executive assistant Neal Flaherty are producing.

Ellsworth got his screenwriting career off to a start with a produced episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. That was followed »

Carl Ellsworth Gets C.O.D.

21 October 2009 1:00 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Red Eye and Disturbia screenwriter Carl Ellsworth has been hired to rewrite C.O.D. (ie Cash On Delivery, non-acronym-users), the thriller about a New York City bike messenger forced to deliver bombs to three locations lest one of those be locations be his family home! (Cue dramatic drum-roll, look of horror on Our Hero's face)The catch in this film is that an entire nation is looking for him, as well as the authorities, to stop these bombs getting through. And probably that his lycra shorts are giving him a wedgie*.We kid, of course; we're just trying to get a handle on the idea of an action hero with a cycling helmet (and he better be wearing a helmet, or we're going to have to write a strongly worded letter to Hollywood about encouraging dangerous cycling). The script was originally written by Lars Jacobson and sold in 2008, but the rewrite suggests that someone, »

Wes Craven's '25/8' changes title

19 October 2009 10:59 PM, PDT | screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news »

Wes Craven has a new film coming out soon, and it was originally titled "25/8." According to ShockTillYouDrop, however, that title does no longer exist. The film is now called "My Soul to Take."

To tell you the truth, I preferred "25/8," but who cares anyway. Craven's last feature directorial effort was 2005's "Red Eye," and it's about time he returns to the big screen. I'm ready...

Anyway, he announced the title change via Twitter. According to IMDb, the film follows a serial killer returning to his hometown to stalk seven children who share the same birthday as the date he was allegedly put to rest.

"Soul" stars Max Thieriot, Denzel Whitaker, Zena Grey, Nick Lashaway and Frank Grillo. Recent Craven films also include "Cursed." He will also be working on the upcoming "Scream 4." »

Wes Craven Will Direct Scream 4

News on The Weinstein.s next installment in the Scream franchise has been trickling out for months. So far we know that Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courtney Cox are on board to return in some capacity; but just exactly who.s directing this thing has been something of a mystery. Tonight we.ve learned from reliable sources that Wes Craven, who directed all three previous Scream movies, is back at the helm. In January we heard that Craven might be involved in Scream 4, but wasn.t necessarily directing. Nearly a year later though, the movie.s moving forward, and he.s stepping into the Scream 4 director.s chair. In the nearly ten years since Scream 3, Craven has kept busy with his usual slate of horror movies. His last blood curdler was the 2005 Rachel McAdams thriller Red Eye and he.s recently completed a serial killer thriller »

Craven to Helm 'Scream 4'

18 October 2009 9:35 PM, PDT | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

It’s official, probably: Wes Craven is returning to the 'Scream' franchise.

Since January, it’s been rumored the legendary director of Scream 1-3 was in negotiations for Scream 4. Craven, who directed Scream 3 back in 2000, more recently helmed the thriller Red Eye, and had a writer’s credit in the 2007 The Hills Have Eyes 2 (which was not exactly a remake of the 1985 film of the same name, which Craven directed).

The 70-year-old auteur was rumored to be involved with Scream 4 in some capacity, but was not necessarily going to be hopping back into the director’s chair. However, according to CinemaBlend, reliable sources have said indicated that Craven will be helming the sequel for the Weinsteins.

Kevin Williamson, who wrote the first and second 'Scream' movies, is serving as writer again. Meanwhile, original 'Scream' trilogy cast members David Arquette, Courteney Cox »

From My Bloody Valentine 3D To Halloween 3D! Patrick Lussier To Write & Direct!

7 September 2009 12:42 PM, PDT | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

The day after Rob Zombie's Halloween 2 opened, the Weinstein Company already announced it's intention to release Halloween 3D by next summer, no doubt to follow hot on the heels of last weekend (and this weekend's) number one movie The Final Destination. Not only that, but with the recently announced remake of The Blob, this Halloween would have to go on without Zombie. Last week's rumor was that Halloween: H20 director Steve Miner was circling the project. Seems now we have a different name.

In a recent Variety post, Patrick Lussier the director of My Bloody Valentine 3D is in negotiations to write and direct the next Halloween movie, Halloween 3D. Considering his long standing history with Dimension having edited for Wes Craven on the Scream movies, Red Eye and even Miner's H20, paired with the successful box office of his My Bloody Valentine remake, it comes as no surprise. »

Weekend Report: Humans Welcome 'District 9'

17 August 2009 12:44 PM, PDT | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

Many humans ventured into District 9 over the weekend, propelling the alien spectacle to an excellent $37.4 million start, while another science fiction-themed picture, The Time Traveler's Wife, had a solid debut. Though the weekend's other new movies disappointed, overall business was up 14 percent from the same weekend last year, when Tropic Thunder opened in first. Launching on approximately 4,000 screens at 3,049 sites, District 9's estimated opening attendance was slightly less than Cloverfield and slightly more than Starship Troopers among past comparable movies. The picture was sold not only as a sci-fi action horror with striking visuals but also as a dramatic mystery, taking a different approach than recent, more disaster-oriented alien invasion movies with a plotline concerning a segregated alien race. One way the marketing helped the picture stand out was through posters done up as signs from the world of the movie, marking bus stops and other areas as »

11 August 2009 8:03 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The Time Traveler's Wife is based on the best-selling book about a love that transcends time. Clare (Rachel McAdams) has been in love with Henry (Eric Bana) her entire life. She believes they are destined to be together, even though she never knows when they will be separated: Henry is a time traveler-cursed with a rare genetic anomaly that causes him to live his life on a shifting timeline, skipping back and forth through his lifespan with no control. Despite the fact that Henry's travels force them apart with no warning, Clare desperately tries to build a life with her one true love.

The Time Traveler's Wife was directed by Robert Schwentke (Flightplan) from a screenplay by Academy Award&#174 winner Bruce Joel Rubin (Ghost), based on the novel by Audrey Niffenegger. Happy 70th Birthday Wes Craven!

2 August 2009 12:11 PM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Horror maestro Wes Craven (A Nightmare on Elm Street, the Scream trilogy) turns 70 today and, as someone who saw the original Scream in the theaters at least 3 times and is just praying that the rumored Scream 4 will indeed happen, I'd just like to thank him for giving me so many nightmares (I mean that in a good way). Craven also is responsible for creating one of the most enduring characters in pop culture history: Freddy Krueger. Not to mention thrill rides like The Last House on the Left, The Hills Have Eyes, and, more recently, Red Eye. But, personally, there's a special place in my heart for the Scream franchise. I loved all those movies and their pop culture savvy scripts by Kevin Williamson and Craven's clever set pieces. So have a great day, Wes, and thanks for continually scaring the bejeesus out of me. PopWatchers, do you have a favorite Craven movie? »

According to Coming Soon, Russell is in talks to star in MGM’s Red Dawn. Russell, whose last big screen outing was Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof, would join Josh Peck (The Wackness), Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights) and Chris Hemsworth, who is also slated to star in Marvel’s Thor. The film will be the directorial debut of Dan Bradley, a former stunt coordinator whose credits include Independence Day, Spider-Man 3, Crank, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum. Carl Ellsworth (Disturbia, Red Eye) penned the screenplay. Kyle Gallner’s Haunting Body of Work

9 July 2009 2:13 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Over the course of modern horror history, it has become fairly commonplace for young actresses (from Jamie Lee Curtis to Angela Bettis) to work their way up through the genre and establish positions of prominence within it. Rising young actors making a significant mark in fright fare have been less common—but one current exception is Kyle Gallner, who stars in the recent hit The Haunting In Connecticut (out on Lionsgate DVDs and Blu-ray next week), appears this fall in the much-buzzed-about Jennifer’S Body (see a new exclusive pic below) and tangles with Freddy Krueger in next year’s A Nightmare On Elm Street remake.

The 22-year-old Gallner (who discussed his Nightmare stint here) had amassed a lengthy résumé of TV credits and a number of supporting parts in features before Haunting beckoned with the central role of Matt Campbell, a teenager suffering from cancer who moves with his »

Jason Bourne Scribe to Rewrite Red Dawn Remake

18 June 2009 8:00 AM, PDT | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

While the cast of the upcoming "Red Dawn" remake is still being put together, LatinoReview is reporting that Tony Gilroy has been hired to rewriter the script, originally put together by Carl Ellsworth (Red Eye, Disturbia) and Jeremy Passmore (Special). Gilroy has previously co-written all three Jason Bourne movie and was recently nominated for two Oscars for writing and directing "Michael Clayton." Gilroy seems like the obvious choice considering that Dan Bradley, the director of the "Red Dawn" remake, was the second unit director on the Jason Bourne films. "Red Dawn" revolves around a group of teenagers who form an impromptu insurgency when their town is invaded by Chinese and Russian soldiers. Set to begin filming in September, the film is scheduled to hit theaters on September 24th, 2010. »

Red Dawn Remake Goes Bourne

18 June 2009 7:49 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

There were a couple of additional casting announcements earlier this week for MGM's Red Dawn remake -- a project that I really couldn't care less about. Joining Chris Hemsworth are Josh Peck (The Wackness) and Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights), who will be playing the same roles played by Charlie Sheen and Jennifer Grey in the original. What I found somewhat interesting, however, was the director that they had chosen for the project: Dan Bradley, second unit director for the last two Bourne movies. He is also the same stunt co-ordinator that was brought on board Quantum of Solace in order to give James Bond a Bourne-style makeover. Clearly they're hoping to make this a gritty, realistic action movie, which is about the last thing I can see Red Dawn becoming. After all, it's about a group of teenagers defending their town from Soviet troops. At any rate, the Bourne »

Labeouf No Longer Interested in Y: The Last Man

9 June 2009 12:18 PM, PDT | TheMovingPicture.net | See recent TheMovingPicture news »

While Shia Labeouf has spent the past few years becoming a bona fide movie star, appearing in such flicks as Transformers, Eagle Eye and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, he’s also been loosely attached to star in an adaptation of the graphic novel Y: The Last Man. But while talking with Wizard Magazine, Labeouf says he’s “not willing to make that movie currently, and may be too old to play the role by the time it does come around”. The actor’s loss of interest may stem from the role being too similar with his Transformers character Sam Witwicky: "You take Sam and you put a monkey on his shoulder," said Labeouf of Yorick's sidekick Ampersand. "I don't know if it's that big a differential. It seems like he's the ordinary guy in an extraordinary situation again.” Y: The Last Man centers on a »

Chris Hemsworth is a Wolverine in Red Dawn Remake

20 May 2009 11:45 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

The “reboot” rumors and news have been flowing out of Hollywood recently faster than people leaving the Florida Keys before a hurricane. Some I’m not too keen on: Cliffhanger, Hellraiser, and Nightmare on Elm Street; others I’m looking forward to: Red Dawn, Fantastic Four, and Predator.

One particular reboot, Red Dawn, is now that much closer to becoming a reality since picking a lead actor. According Kellvin Chavez at Latino Review, Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek, Thor), has landed the role of lead Wolverine Jed Eckert in the upcoming MGM movie, helmed by Dan Bradley and written by Carl Ellsworth (The Last House on the Left).

Hemsworth was on screen for all of twelve minutes in the new Star Trek film and the consensus is he did a great job as George Kirk. Last week Screen Rant reported Hemsworth had also snagged the role of Thor in the upcoming Marvel comic movie. »
