Michael Winterbottom’s adaptation of Laurence Sterne’s “The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Esq.,” a seemingly “unfilmable” novel full of authorial digressions, follows suit with its own set of digressions. Actor Steve Coogan plays the vain “Steve Coogan,” cast as both the (not yet born) narrator, Tristram Shandy, and his father, Walter Shandy, in the film within the film, while comes to terms with responsibility, fatherhood and commitment between takes. Rob Brydon, Keeley Hawes, Shirley Henderson and a cleverly cast Gillian Anderson play themselves and Jeremy Northam, Ian Hart, and Kelly Macdonald co-star.
