Fango editor Tony Timpone reported in from the American Film Market with word that Lionsgate has apparently picked up U.S. rights to Solomon Kane. The supernatural adventure was written and directed by Deathwatch and Wilderness helmer Michael J. Bassett, based on the character created by Conan scribe Robert E. Howard.
Release plans have yet to be ironed out, though our source suggests the film might get theatrical play before heading to DVD. We’ll keep you posted on confirmed details. Solomon Kane stars James Purefoy (pictured) in the title role of a mercenary who has renounced his violent, bloodthirsty past, then finds his soul tested when he must protect a family from evil forces. The cast also includes The Exorcist’s Max Von Sydow, The Omen’s Pete Postlethwaite, Sleepwalkers’ Alice Krige and An American Haunting’s Rachel Hurd-Wood.

Before I launch into the conclusion of my 50 Influential Scream Queens (read part 1 here), please let me remind you that this list is based upon my personal taste, and my personal taste alone. I didn't poll 100 Fango readers, the Fango staff or any other form of 'industry professionals'. It's all opinion, so if you feel I've wronged a certain actress by excluding them from the list, don't leap to brand the entire Fango crew 'vile'. I probably just don't personally find their work to be that influential. Either that or I'm just ignorant to their accomplishments!
25. Mia Farrow: Mia's genre work may be a bit limited, but that doesn't change the fact that Rosemary's Baby will forever be regarded as one of the creepiest films in history. Farrow's portrayal of Rosemary Woodhouse is harrowing to say the least, and will always remain (in my mind) one of the best performances the genre has seen. »

- The extremely popular traveling roadshow of horror films has just divulged the first title to join the 2010 line-up. After Dark Films announced that Brian Pulido's The Graves will be one of the lucky eight in Horrorfest: 8 Films to Die For 4, which has found its niche releasing dates to be the best around not Halloween, but the end of January, beginning of February timeframe. Previous editions have included Sean Ellis's The Broken (III) and Frontier(s) Xavier Gens (II), and the label has in turn individually released An American Haunting and Roland Joffe's Captivity. In what seems to be a good old-fashioned, low budget horror genre (see clip here), The Graves is about two inseparable sisters, Megan and Abby Graves, are taking one last wild road trip before Megan has to start a new job. The journey includes a trip through remote Arizona in search of a kitchy roadside attraction. »

IFC are cashing on the Vampire fever by gearing up a project based on Laurell K. Hamilton's vampire novel series that have sold over 6 millions worldwide. The cable network will adapt "Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter" series to a TV movie in partnership with Lionsgate and After Dark Films.
Published by Penguin Group, the series has spawned 16 books and still counting. It follows the heroin Anita Blake who has a lousy love life and a job as an investigator of supernatural cases. It’s the classic Faustian tale of terror: handsome socialite lured by his debauched mentor into wicked hedonism stays eternally young while his portrait ages in the attic instead. Now Oscar Wilde’s only Gothic horror novel The Picture Of Dorian Gray is being brought to the screen once again.
Dorian Gray as at least the dozenth screen adaptation of Wilde’s book—the most famous to date being the Oscar-winning 1945 version. Filmed last summer and set for UK release in September (U.S. distribution has yet to be nailed down), the new big-budget Ealing Studios production toplines Prince Caspian heartthrob Ben Barnes as the enigmatic Dorian, along with Colin Firth (pictured at left with Barnes), Ben Chaplin, Rebecca Hall and An American Haunting’s Rachel Hurd-Wood.
Giving the 1890 masterpiece a modern edge is newcomer scriptwriter Toby Finlay. “It’s a timeless story with a great deal of contemporary currency »
