Mother's Day remake site updates

3 December 2009 11:37 PM, PST | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

The official site for Darren Bousman's "loosely-based" remake of the 1980 Troma film  Mother's Day (see our first set report here) got some updates yesterday, and it's looking pretty good. Check out the new goods here for an expanded photo gallery, VLogs, Twitter updates and more.

Check out a preview and get more details after the jump.

After a bank robbery gone wrong, three brothers head for home, hoping their Mother (Rebecca De Mornay) can provide them with a getaway. The youngest brother, Johnny (Matt O'Leary), has been shot, and their back-stabbing former partner has gotten away with all the cash.

But when the brothers get home, they find that all their stuff is gone and Mother is nowhere to be found: She lost the house months ago in a foreclosure. The new owners, Beth and Daniel Sohapi (Jaime King and Frank Grillo), and their guests, gathered for an ill-timed birthday party, …

A Fangoria Comic Screams Interview With: Steve Niles

16 November 2009 1:07 AM, PST | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Steve Niles

Writer – Criminal MacAbre, Cal McDonald Stories

Founder of Bloody Pulp Books

http://www.bloodypulpbooks.com

Fangoria:  Alright Steve, horror writer extraordinaire, put down the pencil for a second and talk to us horror fans.

Steve Niles:  Pencil? What is this, 1901?

Fangoria:  You’re in high demand right now! How many projects are you working on as of this interview?

Steve Niles:  I have severe freelancer disease. I am incapable of saying no to work. Right now I’m wrapping a new novel and about six new comic series for the next few years. I’ve been working on a video I’m doing most of them with Idw and Wildstorm. Can’t say much now but it’s all new and some really different stuff for me. Film-wise, I waiting for the first draft of a Criminal MacAbre script from Kyle Ward for Universal, reading a …

Lionsgate To Continue Saw Franchise

13 November 2009 5:46 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Drug addicts, doctors, renegade police offices and anyone else that may need “to help themselves” should stay on edge as it looks like the Jigsaw Killer will be on the lamb for the foreseeable future as Lionsgate recently stated that they will continue making the Rube Goldberg horror series Saw “as long as we make money.”

Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns spoke those exact words at the Median and Money conference in New York on Thursday. To further prove his point, the confident Burns states that Dirty Dancing, 20 years after its debut, still sells an average of 2,000 DVDs per day.

While the most recent Saw VI didn’t perform as well as its predecessors, most people are attributing its dramatic drop off to the phenomenon of Paranormal Activity. I know most people say that the Saw stories aren’t good and it’s the same thing over and over, but …

Weekend Report: 'Paranormal' Rages, 'Saw' Dulls

25 October 2009 5:57 PM, PDT | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

As a new horror sensation rose, another fell over the weekend. Paranormal Activity rolled out into more theaters and claimed the top spot, in part because the new releases were non-starters, including the latest movie in the usually reliable Saw franchise. Overall business was down 11 percent from last year, which featured the one-two punch of High School Musical 3: Senior Year and Saw V, but was still solid for the timeframe.

Jumping to approximately 2,500 screens at 1,945 sites (more than doubling last weekend's counts), Paranormal Activity raked in an estimated $22 million, and its total grew to $62.5 million in 31 days. While still far from The Blair Witch Project, the supernatural horror movie is on track to becoming one of the higher grossing entries in its sub-genre and has already surpassed the final tallies of White Noise and The Haunting in Connecticut.

Saw VI had by far the most anemic start of its franchise, …

Weekend Box-Office

25 October 2009 11:01 AM, PDT | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

Weekend Box-office Paranormal spooks Saw out of #1 spot! Every Saw film since Saw II has grossed over $30 million its first weekend and, with the exception of Saw V (which had to open up against the High School Musical powerhouse), opened at #1 at the box-office. But like the Watchmen opening credits told us, the times they are-a changin'. Saw VI opened with a paltry $14.8Mm, less than half of what it's …

Psyched for Saw 6

24 October 2009 8:00 PM, PDT | MoviesOnline.ca | See recent MoviesOnline news »

The end of October. This means changes in weather, the end of baseball, lots of parties with women dressed up in "sexy" versions of everything from Strawberry Shortcake to nuns, and another Saw movie to be unleashed upon the multiplexes.

You know, I gotta hand it to the filmmakers. They've crafted a wholly original new series of cheap thrillers that don't require much money, and have led it to the greatest grossing horror series of all time!

On top of which, we're six movies in, and they haven't resorted to 3-D releases, a prequel set in the old west, or Jigsaw in space yet, which means there must still be plenty of needlessly complex methods of killing people with common household rusted objects. Although I hear the next one will probably be in 3-D, so Saw VIII will probably take place aboard the Nsa Jigsaw

Anyway, with the release of …

The 'Saw' horror series: Can it bring the pain forever? And should it?

23 October 2009 2:49 PM, PDT | EW.com - The Movie Critics | See recent EW.com - The Movie Critics news »

For anyone who doesn't happen to follow limb-dismembering, mechanized-torture horror films, the fact that the sixth entry in the Saw series is being released this weekend will seem unremarkable in just about every way. For decades now, gruesome new horror movies have arrived at the multiplex with big fat roman numerals stuck at the end of their titles. Only the most fanatical droolers of the "horror community" are even still counting. I mean, really, who would seriously bother to keep track of how many interchangeably cruddy Friday the 13th sequels there are? Or how many times Freddy Krueger ever came …

'Saw' Traps That Didn't Make Jigsaw's Final Cut

23 October 2009 1:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Rube Goldberg machines are awesome. There's nothing quite like watching an absurd, elaborate series of actions and reactions. It's tricky stuff, making sure disparate mechanical parts that weren't designed specifically to work together operate in concert. Can you imagine what it's like setting up one that could hurt you? Hell, what about one that's intentionally designed to kill somebody, like the ones deranged killer Jigsaw sets up in the "Saw" movies?

Imagine the hours upon hours it takes to set up those elaborate deathtraps. How many tetanus shots he must need after sticking himself with rusty power tools. How many vaccinations he must require from handling all those used syringes. Hell, how many times the poor bastard has stubbed his toe after dropping that damn puppet. He's bound to have set up some traps that plain don't work, schemes that looked great on paper but just didn't prove up to …

Greutert: Saw Almost Turned to the Mafia?

14 October 2009 | shocktillyoudrop.com | See recent shocktillyoudrop news »

Kevin Greutert, the latest director to sit at the helm of the Saw franchise, won't divulge any plot details about Saw VI , but he did offer us a glimpse at what could have been... "There was a point someone wanted the movie to be about Hoffman versus the mafia," he reveals, "that was reminiscent of Saw II in which Jigsaw led the police into his lair and then pulled the rug out from under them." Greutert admittedly didn't care for the idea. "It didn't feel like Saw to me, we came back a week later and we came into the meeting. Marcus and Patrick offered the story and it was nothing like what we discussed with the mafia tale. And that never came up again." In the sixth entry, Detective Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) is the unchallenged …

"It's definitely violent, but not like the other films I have done," he tells Bloody Disgusting in a brief exclusive interview. More …

TV Or Not TV: 10/12 - 10/18

12 October 2009 7:10 PM, PDT | | See recent news »

Welcome to another edition of TV or Not TV where I was blown away by the series finale of The Office.

Ok, don’t get worked up, I know that last Thursday’s special hour episode of the Jim & Pam wedding on The Office wasn’t in fact a series finale but It would have made an amazing one. It was funny, it was romantic, and it almost achieved the high standard that the Christmas Specials of the original UK version of the show set a few years back (”Never give up”).

It would probably be a gross abuse of column space to go into each and every thing that I enjoyed about this episode. The “mental picture” bit that was introduced as what seemed like a throw-away element in the beginning was played out perfectly througout the episode. Jim’s question that, “Is there something about being a manager …

First Real Photo from Darren Bousman's Mother's Day Remake

8 October 2009 8:00 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Saw II & III director Darren Bousman's remake of Mother's Day has been rushed into production fairly quickly. It was only five months ago that we first learned it was even happening and now Bousman is already shooting this up in Canada. Darren just posted the first official photo from the remake on his Twitter today. It's not a behind-the-scenes shot but rather an actual photo showing Patrick Flueger (I think?) wrestling with what looks to be Jaime King. Either way it's a pretty dynamic first look at the movie, although it doesn't show much (in terms of story). Bousman also debuted a behind-the-scenes first look on IGN today as well. This remake, written by newcomer Scott Milam, will see the villainous family return to the house where they grew up and terrorize the new owners and their guests. The story will reflect today's times and the rough economy. "She's …

Terror Tidbits (Fango #288): Saw VI, Audiences Sick

6 October 2009 12:43 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Sunrise, sunset. Days bleed into days, weeks into weeks and years into years. And as the world turns and nature casts an indifferent eye to our petty mortal foibles, stresses and concerns, a legion of dedicated men and women know that outside of death and taxes, there is but one constant in their lives, one definite that will call to them and embrace them every year, without fail. It will lead them to a place that, though strewn with all manner of glistening viscera and roughly removed limbs, is a sort of home away from home.

And when that phone rings, they know what the disembodied voice on the other end will say to them from the corporate ether:

“Get ready…we’re doing another Saw.”

Since James Wan and Leigh Whannell unleashed their original horror/torture/morality tale in 2004, the neverending Saw franchise has become a predictable presence. Relocating …

Jigsaw Still Calling the Shots in New 'Saw VI' Trailer

3 October 2009 12:49 PM, PDT | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

You've got to give Tobin Bell some credit. The guy bounced around for decades until he finally landed a big project of his own. Of course, when the first Saw was made, he could have had no idea he'd have that same steady job for a decade. But they're planning nine movies in all, and even though Bell's Jigsaw died, what, three movies ago, he's still somehow the central figure in this series.

The latest (and very short) trailer for Saw VI has been released, and once again, here's Jigsaw, explaining something about how the dead hold dominion over the souls of the living or some such nonsense. We also get a little preview of some of the traps the evil genius has cooking this time around.

The fifth movie in the series was more than just the worst Saw flick, it was one of the worst horror movies in a long, …

'Mother's Day' Behind-the-Scenes Pic

Say what you want about Director Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II, III, IV, Repo!), but if he's one thing, it's a man of his word. This weekend, Darren said that if he crossed 4K followers on Twitter he would release a behind-the-scenes image from the set of his Mother's Day remake. The original Mother's Day has always been a nasty little guilty pleasure of mine, so I'm looking forward to seeing what Bousman does with his reboot. Needless to say, the challenge was met, check out the pic after the jump. You earned it. Greatest Scream Queens

Debbie Rochon, often described as a scream queen herself, wrote in an article originally published in Gc Magazine that "a true Scream Queen isn't The Perfect Woman. She's sexy, seductive, but most importantly 'attainable' to the average guy. Or so it would seem." Nastassja Kinski Films: To the Devil a Daughter (1976) [1] Cat People (1982) [2] The Day the World Ended (2001) [3] Inland Empire (2006) [4] Kinski will always be remembered for the iconic photograph shot by Richard Avedon (with a snake coiled around her body) and her role in Paul Schrader's (not so good) remake of Cat People. Needless to say, it was a hit at the box office and Kinski deservingly received a Saturn Award for Best Actress.
