Brittany Murphy Tweets From Peter Facinelli, Paris Hilton And Others In Another Twitter-Wood Early Edition

21 December 2009 2:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Earlier today, we brought you an early edition of Twitter-Wood packed chock-full of celebrity praise for James Cameron's sci-fi epic, "Avatar." It's a much more tragic set of circumstances that brings me back to you with another Twitter-Wood early edition.

"Clueless" star Brittany Murphy left us suddenly over the weekend, the victim of a heart attack at the too-young age of 32. The breaking news resulted in an outpouring of grief and sympathy for Murphy's family from around the celebrity Twittersphere. I'll let the people who knew her take it from here...

@ParisHilton So sad to hear about Brittany Murphy, such a tragedy. She was such a beautiful, funny and sweet girl. My heart goes out to her family.

-Paris Hilton, Actress ("The Hottie and the Nottie," "House of Wax")

@peterfacinelli Brittany Murphy... U were Bold, Brave, and Beautiful. Thank you 4 being the free spirit u were, and always …

Kevin Bacon Joining Cast of ‘Super’

21 December 2009 12:15 PM, PST | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

Not many people know director James Gunn by name, but most can pick his work out of a lineup. He’s had a pretty eclectic career behind the camera. He got his start working with the people such as Lloyd Kaufman and his Troma bunch.

From there, Gunn went on to write such films as Scooby-Doo, Dawn of the Dead, and most recently, Slither starring fan favorite Nathan Fillion. Gunn has always had an outspoken love of the superhero and comic book genre, especially with his superhero spoof film The Specials starring Rob Lowe back in 2000.

It looks like Gunn is at it again, with his newest project, Super, starring Rainn Wilson (The Office), as an everyday guy who is thrust into a extraordinary situation. The film is set to star Liv Tyler and Ellen Paige alongside Wilson.

It has now been announced that Kevin Bacon will be joining the cast, …

Kevin Bacon will play the villain in the upcoming action-comedy "Super" for This Is That and Ambush Entertainment reports Screen Daily.

Bacon will play Jacques, a smooth-talking drug dealer who steals the wife (Liv Tyler) of an average guy (Rainn Wilson), causing the latter to become a one-man crime-fighting force known as The Crimson Bolt. Ellen Page also stars.

"Slither" writer/director James Gunn helms the project which is shooting until next month in Shreveport, Louisiana. …

When Brittany Murphy died suddenly Sunday morning (December 20), she left behind an impressive body of work and a lot of fans wondering what cut her life so short. Similarly, the Hollywood community and her own family spent the asking questions and mourning the 32-year-old actress.

"Brittany was one of the sweetest people you will ever meet," "Scrubs" star Donald Faison said in a statement to MTV News regarding the actress, who co-starred with him in the 1995 hit "Clueless." "She had the voice of an angel and a genuine heart of gold. I'm very happy to have known and worked with such a special person. My heart goes out to all of her loved ones."

James Gunn Casts Kevin Bacon in Superhero Comedy 'Super'

18 December 2009 7:15 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

You may or may not have already heard about Slither director James Gunn's new project called Super (we wrote about it in September), but we've been following it anyway. The comedy is about an everyday guy who transforms himself into The Crimson Bolt, a superhero with the best intentions, though he lacks the heroic skills. ScreenDaily has confirmed that Kevin Bacon is starring in the film as the villain Jacques, a smooth-talking drug dealer who steals the wife of our hero. Rainn Wilson stars as the main character Wilson and is also joined by Ellen Page and Liv Tyler. They just started shooting down in Shreveport, Louisiana this week. "Kevin Bacon is one of the few actors nimble enough to give life to Jacques, our supervillain with a nice streak,” director James Gunn said. “We need to love Jacques even while he’s doing horrible things – Kevin is one …

Bacon tastes Super

18 December 2009 3:02 PM, PST | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

I've been looking forward to James Gunn following his wonderfully sticky Slither, and it sounds like he's mixing that movie's messy sensibilities with the kind of R-rated superhero satire he came up with in The Specials. His currently filming mega-violent action-comedy Super stars Rainn Wilson ("The Office") as an everyday dude who becomes a superhero to defend his lady (Liv Tyler), with the help of a kooky sidekick (Ellen Page). And now he has a nemesis: the link to all mankind, …

Exclusive: Dread Central Pays a Visit to Scream Queens 2

10 December 2009 10:44 AM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

It’s Wednesday, December 2nd (and incidentally this scribe’s birthday), when I arrive to the set of VH1 and Joke Productions’ reality series "Scream Queens 2". The show is shooting in a foreboding manse made infamous by its use in Rob Zombie’s Halloween (and across the street from the house Wes Craven made iconic in People Under the Stairs) off Western Avenue in Los Angeles, CA.

I’m greeted by co-showrunner Biagio Messina (who with his wife and producing partner, Joke Fincioen, is in the midst of the series’ twenty-four-day shoot). Scheduled to air in eight parts on VH1 next spring/summer and hosted by director Tim (2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams) Sullivan, "Scream Queens 2" will feature ten aspiring actresses vying for a role in Lionsgate’s next entry in the Saw film series, Saw VII 3D. Actress Jaime (My Bloody Valentine 3D) King will appear as a mentor to the hopefuls, …

'Twilight' Stars Callin' Each Other, Tiger Woods And Nicky Hilton Gets Robbed In Today's Twitter-Wood

9 December 2009 4:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

"New Moon" stars Christian Serratos and Edi Gathegi appear to be taking their conversations about gummi bear attacks off Twitter and over to a private phone conversation, for whatever that's worth. There may be some obstacles between them and this fated phone call, but they sound like they want to strike out against the odds and make it work.

In more substantive tweets, Paris Hilton has a beef with the delayed police response she says her sister Nicky received after her home was broken into Tuesday. Check out what she posted after the jump along with David Wain's take on Tiger Woods' situation, some behind-the-scenes looks at "Toy Story 3" and the "Up in the Air" DVD and James Gunn's cinematographer's impressive gear. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for December 9, 2009.

Is Hollywood Going Alien Crazy? Will Aliens Become the New Vampires?

30 November 2009 8:45 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Ben Magid's spec screenplay Invasion has sold to Summit Entertainment/Participant for low to mid six figures. The story, which is an alien invasion thriller in the same vein as Cloverfield, is being produced by Eli Roth and Eric Newman (Children of Men, Slither). According to Shock, "the film opens with a wicked subway accident in Los Angeles in which the survivors (the film's protagonists) climb from the wreckage to find the, now "snowy," city in ruins." No further details are available at this time. Magid made a name for himself in 2006, selling a pitch to New Line for his script Pan, a spin on J.M. Barrie's tale of Peter Pan, where Pan is a villain being hunted by a police captain named Hook. He has since taken a stab at an early draft for the live-action adaptation of Hack/Slash. With the success of recent films like the …

Exclusive: Producer Talks 30 Days of Night: Dark Days From the Set

23 November 2009 11:59 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Dread Central hit the set of Sony’s 30 Days of Night: Dark Days earlier this month - the film wraps principal photography today in Vancouver, Canada, under the watchful eye of co-scripter (with Steve Niles) and director Ben Ketai - and while there sat down with producer Jr Young (among others) to discuss the flick (cast interviews to come).

“This is a very edgy film,” Young, who previously produced The Messengers, told Dread while intently watching a scene being played out in video village – a scene which featured a rather hysterical and bloody actress (Katherine Isabelle) pleading for her life. “Ben knows this world. I think it comes natural to him.”

Starring Kiele (A Perfect Getaway) Sanchez, Mia (De Palma’s The Black Dahlia) Kirschner, Rhys ("Entourage") Coiro, Diora (Night of the Demons) Baird, Harold ("Lost") Perrineau, Troy (A Marine Story) Ruptash, Jackson Berlin, John De Santis, Marco Sorian, Monique (Cabin in the Woods) Ganderton, …

James Gunn Bows Out of Scream Queens Season Two

James Gunn ( Slither , Dawn Of The Dead ) posted a blog via his official website announcing that he will have to bow out of his judging duties from the upcoming second season of Scream Queens . The reason is simply a matter of a scheduling conflict. He explains, "Timing is everything. And in this instance, timing sucks. My movie Super has been greenlit and is about to go into production at the exact same time season two of my VH1 reality show Scream Queens is going into production. Unfortunately, I have no choice but to choose one or the other, and my actual film career must come before my reality show film career." "I will continue to stand by and support Scream Queens ," he adds. "We're figuring a few ways I can continue to be involved. I …

Fred Dekker on Night of the Creeps 2 and The Monster Squad Remake

16 October 2009 7:55 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The prolific cult director also talks about directing

Fans of true cult cinema have a reason to rejoice this Halloween season, as Fred Dekker, the mastermind behind the hugely popular The Monster Squad, is finally bringing his elusive, long absent underground horror hit Night of the Creeps to DVD and Blu-ray on October 27th. To help celebrate the release, we recently caught up with the prolific director for a no holds barred interview that covers his whole career (including his own ruminations about the much maligned RoboCop 3 some fifteen years after its release). It's a great interview that you can read below in our DVD section. While discussing Night of the Creeps, Dekker spoke more about his plans for a sequel which would reunite the entire cast some twenty years after the events of that faithful night in 1986. He also discussed the upcoming Rob Cohen remake of his beloved The Monster Squad, …

Fred Dekker Revisits The Night of the Creeps!

16 October 2009 7:44 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The most elusive cult creeper ever made finally makes its way to DVD and Blu-ray October 27th!

Night of the Creeps has become one of the most sought after late night cult creepers ever made. After hitting the video store circuit in the mid-80s on VHS tape (and VHS alone), the film quickly disappeared. It would later crawl out from late night cable television on that rare occasion, like some long dormant creature hungry for flesh. It's never been re-released on any medium, and has only made a handful of appearances at the local midnight theater. Despite that fact, Fred Dekker's amazing 1986 ode to aliens, zombies, and high school romps has developed a rabid following over the years. Revolving around squirmy black leeches that possess a town full of teenagers and treats them like puppets on prom night, it's a hard film to shake. And the fact that …

James Gunn’s Humanzee Is Ready For Delivery

13 October 2009 7:34 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

After waiting for what seems like ages for its debut, “Slither” mastermind and former Troma grunt James Gunn’s outrageously violent web show “Humanzee” — which was banned by both Xbox Live and Spike TV last year — has finally made its online debut this morning. The program, which prominently features multiple members of the Gunn family, as well as “Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer” star Michael Rooker, chronicles the wacky adventures of a dorky suburban loser (James Gunn) and his half-human, half-chimpanzee hybrid. The first episode is exceptionally stupid and savagely violent, yet its old-school sitcom presentation somehow manages to elicit multiple laughs despite being completely nonsensical. Genius? That depends on you. You can visit James Gunn’s Official Site for more details, or you can simply enjoy the video included below. Not sure if this will be an ongoing project or not, but I’m definitely curious to see where it leads. …

Ellen Page talks new superhero role and it isn’t X-Men

Ellen Page, who may finally escape being called “Juno star Ellen Page” thanks to her performance in Drew Barrymore’s fabulous flick Whip It, recently confirmed that she will play opposite Rainn Wilson (The Office) in Super.

The 22-year-old Page will play the Crimson Bolt’s sidekick…kinda. “I play a slightly eccentric girl who works at a comic book store who really wants to be his sidekick,” Page told MTV. “Let’s just say there might be some skintight yellow suits. I don’t know for sure. Who knows what will happen?”

Monty Python, Thom Yorke And Miley Cyrus As Pocahontas In Today's Twitter-Wood

5 October 2009 4:30 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

There was a lot to catch up on in Twitter-Wood today after my long weekend, including the 40th anniversary of Monty Python's first appearance on television, which member John Cleese and fan Edgar Wright both noted. Elsewhere, Edward Norton and Danny Masterson had good things to tweet about Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke's live solo performance, and Miley Cyrus and Ashley Tisdale joined Paris Hilton among those tweeting their Halloween costume plans for 2009.

There is loads more to check out, though, believe it or not, as James Gunn tweeted a pic of himself offering juice to a horse that may belong to Rainn Wilson and Jeremy Piven posted a behind-the-scene shot of Matt Damon from "Entourage." I can't even summarize it all today, I retweeted so many people. I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is your Twitter-Wood report for October 5, 2009.
