Damon turned down 'Trek's George Kirk role

24 November 2009 4:18 AM, PST | digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news »

Jj Abrams has revealed that Matt Damon turned down the role of George Kirk in his Star Trek movie. The Bourne Ultimatum actor had been linked to the role of James T. Kirk in the franchise revival, however Abrams informed MTV that he had in fact spoken to Damon about playing Kirk's father George, who appeared in Trek's opening sequence. Abrams said: "I did [approach Damon], but not for the role of James Kirk. I went to Damon for (more) »

Black Cat Buzz Ensnares Julia Stiles, Anne Hathaway

18 November 2009 10:55 PM, PST | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

Julia Stiles as the Black Cat? The web's been abuzz of late with news that the actress, who most recently starred in The Bourne Ultimatum, met with a casting company about the upcoming Spider-Man 4, according to Ugo.

It should be noted, however, that just about every actress on the planet has been reported as auditioning for the part, including Rachel McAdams and Romola Garai.

Moreover, Deadline Hollywood is reporting today that Anne Hathaway has been approached to star in the fourth installment. She is purportedly wanted for a starring role, but not to replace Kirsten Dunst.

Last week, McAdams debunked the rumor she met with producers over the role of Felicia Hardy/Black Cat, occasional nemesis and love interest of Spider-Man/Peter Parker. Garai, meanwhile, admitted to being among hundreds of actresses who had attended open auditions, but said she was not going to be cast in Spider-Man 4. »

Matt Damon Is Still Plugging Away At That 'Bourne 4' Script With Paul Greengrass

13 November 2009 11:00 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

by Matt Thompson

When "The Bourne Ultimatum" hit theaters in 2007, it was a logical assumption that it would be the last film in the Bourne series. Then Matt Damon signed on for a fourth film last October.

We reported over the summer that Damon was stumped when it came to creating an attractive plot to the fourth installment in the series. He reached out to the audience with an open invitation to anyone who had a brilliant idea for the story.

Two months later, the problem seems to be solved. In a recent interview with Total Film, Damon revealed that he and director Paul Greengrass are working feverishly on putting together a script for "Bourne 4."

"Personally, selfishly, we'd all really like to do it," Damon said. The last thing he wants to do is create an awful fourth chapter to what has been an epic series of films. "But we »

'Bourne 4' Script Still in the Works

13 November 2009 1:56 AM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

The next installment of "Bourne" film franchise still has a long way before it starts its production. In a recent interview with Total Film, Matt Damon revealed he and director Paul Greengrass are still working on the script for untitled Bourne 4 project.

"Personally, selfishly, we'd all really like to do it," Damon claimed. He later explained why it takes a long time for them to complete the script, "But we are really serious about trying to get the story and the script right because the only thing more disappointing than not having another one of these movies is - for us and for movie fans - to make one that isn't good."

Later, the actor added, "Everyone would say, 'They should have quit after three'. And we'd feel that way, too." However, Damon is optimistic that they will begin the shooting of the fourth "Bourne" film in the middle of »

Damon's Cheap Che Cameo

12 November 2009 8:06 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Steven Soderbergh's movie Che was so low budget, Matt Damon used a promotional trip for The Bourne Ultimatum to bag a free flight to Europe to film his part.

The moviemaker asked Damon to appear in the biopic, about Latino revolutionary Che Guevara, and he was quick to sign up to the picture.

But the shoot clashed with overseas promo work for Damon's 2007 action thriller - so the actor used the opportunity to get free flights from the U.S. to Europe for him and his wife Lucy.

He tells Britain's Total Film magazine, "Steven called me and says, 'Will you do a day on Che?' They were in the south of Spain. I said, 'Lucy and I are going to be there.'

"I had some press to do there for The Bourne Ultimatum. So the studio flew us there and we snuck in because Che was the lower-budget movie. We let Bourne get us to Europe and then I went down (to film Che)." »

Peter Berg to Direct Army of Two Video Game Adaptation

9 November 2009 10:46 AM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Over the past few months, we've seen director Peter Berg drop out of a couple of upcoming projects including the robot boxing film Real Steel [1], and the remake of Frank Herbert's Dune [2]. Clearly he's in demand after directing Hancock, but what exactly has he been freeing up his schedule for? Well, we already know that he's going to be directing Universal's Battleship [3] movie, but now in addition to a board game movie, it looks like he has added a video game adaptation to his list of potential projects as well. Yay? A recent article in Variety [4] examines some of the properties that EA is licensing out to TV, movies and comics. Among them is the previously announced big screen version of Army of Two, about two mercenaries working for the U.S. military who get caught up in a political conspiracy in the Middle East. Poster for Greengrass, Damon Film Green Zone

4 November 2009 6:39 PM, PST | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

Empire Magazine has the first poster for the Iraq War thriller Green Zone starring Matt Damon and directed by Paul Greengrass.  The two worked together on The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, which might explain why the poster and trailer look like a continuation of that series rather than a fast-paced political flick.

If this one sheet looks like a simple, washed out picture of Damon, that’s because it is.  But wait a minute, you’re missing the cringe-worthy tag line.  “Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller Is Done Following Orders.”  There, that ought to bring people in droves.

First Poster for Paul Greengrass’ Green Zone Starring Matt Damon

4 November 2009 10:33 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

I’ve already made my feelings about “Green Zone” abundantly clear and it’s going to be difficult for me to put aside what I think the film should’ve been and trying to appreciate what director Paul Greengrass actually made.  The funny thing is that if I had no idea what the book was about, I would be pretty excited for what look like the 4th Jason Bourne movie since “Supremacy” and “Ultimatum”, which Greengrass directed, are both fantastic films.

Still, when I look at the film’s first poster, it’s hard for me to choke down a tagline like “Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller Is Done Following Orders”.  Thankfully, the film doesn’t come out until March 12th, 2010 so I still have some time to adjust.  Check out the poster and a brief synopsis after the jump.

Here’s a couple of new images from Matt Damon’s Green Zone. In the meantime, we have these new images (click them below to enlarge) from the movie which is set to blow your socks off March 12th. As well as Damon, Green Zone stars Greg Kinnear, Amy Ryan, Brendan Gleeson, Jason Isaacs, Khalid Abdalla.

'Green Zone' trailer No. 2: Now with more exploding helicopters

29 October 2009 6:40 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

The first trailer for Green Zone, the new Matt Damon thriller directed by The Bourne Ultimatum's Paul Greengrass, just hit the Web two days ago. But apparently there was a surplus of kick-ass, leaving the filmmakers no choice but to release a second, equally awesome trailer today. The new trailer packs a lot of the same plot set-up — Damon is an army warrant officer who butts heads with a cagey journalist (Amy Ryan) and a shady government dude (Greg Kinnear). But this time around, we're served even more intense action, including some jaw-dropping shots of a flaming helicopter spiraling »

Bourne Goes To Iraq In International Green Zone Trailer

28 October 2009 8:01 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Yesterday we told you about the brand spanking new trailer for Paul Greengrass's Iraq War thriller, Green Zone here. Sure, it looked a whole lot like The Bourne Middle East Conflict, but in a totally good way. Who doesn't want to see more of badass Matt Damon taking on the man in search of who he really is and what he was really trained to kill for? Now we have the international trailer for Green Zone, and it still looks awesome. However, rather than focus on Greengrass's quick editing and amazing eye for suspense, this footage relies more on the story, which looks damn interesting. Sure, it has a cell phone revelation scene, much like the one at the end of The Bourne Ultimatum and two dudes fighting in a claustrophobic room, but it's still Greengrass and Damon, together, making a movie about a dude beating people up. And really, »

International Green Zone Trailer is Radically Different

28 October 2009 11:48 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Yesterday we posted the domestic trailer for director Paul Greengrass’ (”The Bourne Supremacy”, “The Bourne Ultimatum”, “United 93″) “Green Zone”.  While the movie is about a rogue U.S. Army officer (Matt Damon) in Iraq, for a moment I thought I was watching the trailer for the next Bourne movie.  That’s not a bad thing, it’s just the way Universal was selling the film in the trailer.  But over in the United Kingdom, Universal has released a Much different trailer as it uses other footage to tell the story.  Trust me, watch both trailers.  You’ll be amazed at how different they are. Both are after the jump:

Here’s the synopsis:

On March 12, 2010, Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass re-team for the electrifying thriller “Green Zone”. In the film, Damon stars as Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller, a rogue U.S. Army officer who must hunt through »

First Trailer and New Photos of 'Green Zone' Arrive

27 October 2009 8:56 PM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Universal Pictures has brought forth the first trailer for its forthcoming thriller "Green Zone". Debuted at Yahoo! Movies, the promo video features glimpses of Matt Damon as Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller, Greg Kinnear as CIA officer Clark Poundstone and Amy Ryan as The Wall Street Journal's foreign correspondent Lawrie Dayne.

Set in the chaotic early days of the Iraqi War, Roy Miller and his team of Army inspectors were dispatched to find weapons of mass destruction believed to be stockpiled in the Iraqi desert. Going from one booby-trapped and treacherous site to the next, the men stumble upon an elaborate cover-up that inverts the purpose of their mission instead of finding deadly chemical agents.

Soon, Miller finds himself in a world where no one could be trusted and every decision could detonate unforeseen consequences. Still, he faces the danger head on. And, through covert and faulty intelligence hidden on foreign soil, »

New Trailers: 'Green Zone' and 'Smokin' Aces 2'

27 October 2009 4:50 PM, PDT | Fandango | See recent Fandango news »

Green Zone [watch the trailer]   It's not exactly Bourne 4, but if you watched this trailer without knowing the name of the film, you may indeed question whether or not this was some secret Bourne sequel that no one told you about. Instead, though, it's called Green Zone – and it looks very Bourne-esque because the film reunites Matt Damon (who played Jason Bourne) with director Paul Greengrass (who directed The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum).     So, yeah, you'll see a lot of that familiar Matt Damon ass-kickery set to some quick, shaky camera cuts, however this flick is completely different from that series. In Green Zone, Damon stars as a rogue Army officer who's searching for Weapons of Mass Destruction during the Iraq war. Usually moviegoers...

Watch Matt Damon In 'Green Zone' Trailer

27 October 2009 3:06 PM, PDT | Reel Empire | See recent Reel Empire news »

You know, for an actor who claims he doesn't enjoy doing violent movies, Matt Damon has sure racked up quite a few movies that showcase some major ass kicking, flying bullets and dead bodies. His latest thriller titled "Green Zone" is no exception. Universal has released the first trailer which reunites "The Bourne Ultimatum" director Paul Greengrass and star Matt Damon. The film can be described as a fourth "Borne" movie. In fact, they may as well have just called the movie "The Bourne Legacy" and they would have been guaranteed box office success because the "Green Zone" just doesn't do it for me. In any case, you can check out the trailer inside. Let us know what you think!

Trailer for Paul Greengrass’ Green Zone Starring Matt Damon

27 October 2009 10:28 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

To say that I’m disappointed by the trailer for Paul Greengrass’ upcoming film, “Green Zone”, would be an understatement.  What you’re essentially getting is a 4th Jason Bourne movie.  And yes, the direction looks amazing and I’m sure Matt Damon, Amy Ryan, and Greg Kinnear will all do a good job.  But I’ve seen this movie twice already from Greengrass.  By choosing this direction, he’s missed a golden opportunity to do something fresh and different because the source material, Rajiv Chandrasekaran’s “Imperial Life in the Emerald City”, is not an action-packed thriller.  It’s in the vein of “Catch-22″ and made all the more absurd by the fact that it’s all true.  Maybe it’s because I attached my expectations to this film but I’m feeling a bit deflated since it looks like all we’re getting is a thrilling action movie. »

The 25 Scariest Moments in Non-Horror Movies

27 October 2009 10:11 AM, PDT | ifc.com | See recent IFC news »

When you sit down to a horror film, you know, at least on a basic level, what you're getting into. Whether or not the movie delivers, what you've been promised, and what you're braced for or looking forward to, are scares. Which is why, when we look back on those truly traumatic movie memories, the titles that come to mind often are not horror films at all.

The most frightening movie moments can arrive out of nowhere, in the midst of where they shouldn't belong, catching you when you're vulnerable -- which is why there are a few alleged children's films on this list. But they can also creep up on you, working a different kind of dread, which is where some of the documentaries included below fit in. Fear is a funny thing. It comes in different varieties, it can work its way on you in unanticipated, and, as our collection here proves, »
