Don’t get up in arms yet: Sgt. Pepper’s band isn’t what we’re talking about here. Instead, yet another indie teen novel has been picked up for distribution, riding the wave of Youth in Revolt and others.
Mandalay Pictures has picked up the rights to Elizabeth Eulberg’s teen book “The Lonely Hearts Club,” which hasn’t even been released yet. The horrifying news? Eulberg is a close friend/business associate with Twilight author Stephanie Meyer. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.
According to Variety, the film revolves around ” a heartbroken teen who comes to the conclusion that most high school boys are total jerks and declares herself founding member of said club, refusing to date again until graduation. Other girls quickly join, taking the same oath and forming a movement that throws the high school into an uproar.”
Meh. Could be great, could be crap. Far too early to tell.

You may not know the name Elizabeth Eulberg yet, but you will. Especially because I'm about to tell you who she is and explain the integral part she's played in ruining your life.
That's a bit dramatic, I know. But Eulberg is the director of global publicity at Little Brown, a position that allowed her to work closely with Twilight author Stephenie Meyer during the construction of said teen vampire phenomenon. She was the one at the helm of the PR campaign that has every American girl under the age of 17 (except the ones that are 'older than their age' who are off gettin' it on with college dudes) choosing between Team Edward and Team Jacob.

Two upcoming projects aim to tackle teen troubles from two different ends of the spectrum as Variety reports Mandalay Pictures has optioned the rights to Elizabeth Eulberg's upcoming teen book The Lonely Hearts Club and THR says actor Lane Garrison (of Fox's "Prison Break") is writing One Heart, the true story of a football team from the Gainesville (Texas) State School that's made up of juvenile delinquents involved with drugs and violence.

Another day, another still-unpublished book has been picked up for adaptation to the big screen, with the news that teen novel The Lonely Hearts Club has been picked up by Manderlay for a film outing. Despite that Abbey Road-invoking cover, our sources say that Sgt. Pepper is not involved.No, in fact Elizabeth Eulberg's book tells the story of a high-school girl who decides that her male contemporaries are total jerks and swears off dating until graduation. When lots of her female classmates join her, it throws the school into turmoil.It's an interesting set-up, and Eulberg knows the teen market as she's been working in publicity for publisher Little Brown for years, notably on the Twilight series with Stephenie Meyers. The cynic in us might assume that this is another book promoting the value of abstinence to teenage girls (does anyone ever put the same effort into promoting it for boys?

It's hard to believe it's almost been 30 years since I heard Howard Cosell deliver the news on Monday Night Football that John Lennon had been killed.
I was still in high school when John Lennon died so I was too young to remember the Beatles as anything more than a former band.
When the Beatles invaded America, I was less than a year old.
Three summers later, when Sgt. Peppers transformed popular music and America's culture, I was still a toddler.
But regardless of my late start, John Lennon and the Beatles still changed my life in a way that few others have. I didn't see the Fab Four introduced to America by Ed Sullivan, or endure the pain of a breakup to the strains of "Yesterday," or drop acid with my friends while listening to Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band....

Apple Corps, MTV Games and Harmonix have announced that The Beatles. album Sgt. Pepper.s Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967) will be available in its entirety for purchase and playable as downloadable content in The Beatles: Rock Band Music Store starting November 17, 2009. Sgt. Pepper.s Lonely Hearts Club Band becomes the second full album from The Beatles to hit The Beatles: Rock Band Music Store since the video game.s launch on September 9, 2009. Last month MTV Games and Harmonix released Abbey Road (1969) as the first full downloadable album for use in the game. Additionally, .All You Need Is Love,. the first downloadable track available for the game, has shown similar success with more than 100,000 downloads

Author Mike McCarty (pictured) sent along info on his new short-story collection A Little Help From My Fiends (coming from Sam’s Dot Publishing this fall), in which each tale was penned by McCarty and a fellow scribe. The Beatles connection doesn’t end with the Sgt. Pepper’S reference in the title, as the book was bred from McCarty’s desire to blend his loves of horror and the Fab Four. “I’ve been a fan of The Beatles as long as I’ve been a fan of horror,” he tells Fango. “I thought it would be great to combine the two in one collection.

Chicago – The Criterion Collection recently released a timeless document of one of the most important events in music history, The Monterey Pop Festival of 1967. Not only does this legendary fest include some seminal visuals, including Jimi Hendrix lighting his guitar on fire and Pete Townshend smashing his, but it captures a nation on the cusp of something amazing, not just musically but socially.

At the height of the Summer of Love, during a June weekend in 1967, history was made at the Monterey International Pop Festival near San Francisco, arguably the epicenter of the counter-culture movement in the late ’60s. Concert films often work best when they’re about one band. The Last Waltz and Stop Making Sense are great, because you can either like the artist or not, but it’s about their moment, that moment, when they record the show they’re doing. The problem with gig shows, like Monterey Pop, is that not all musicians are created equal. So they have to be about the moment, and the experience. My review after the jump.
Monterey Pop brings together a number of performers, but only a couple will make you lose your minds. But four such performances are enough to make a film like this, and it’s worth celebrating the film for those, and though the film shows where pop music was at that moment, some artists are better than others. Chicago – “The Beatles: Rock Band” is easily the most fulfilling music gaming experience to date. As someone who has played all of the “Guitar Hero” and “Rock Band” releases so far, I can tell you from experience that most of these titles are easy to pick up and put down without a concrete narrative to drive a player from beginning to end. “The Beatles: Rock Band” has turned the music game sub-genre into something it hasn’t been yet - a complete journey instead of just a collection of songs.

Hollywood is getting gimmicky again - although some could argue that they never stopped. You can trace back the past 2 scores (that’s four decades for the numerically challenged) of movie history and there is a clear pattern of Hollywood studios and directors copying each other according to the most popular trend of the time. In the 70’s Kung-fu, Blaxpoitation and cop/mob films ruled supreme; the 80’s brought about the birth of the raucous comedy and over-the-top action hero (Norris, Schwarzenegger, Stallone). The only thing the 90’s managed to influence was run times with films like Braveheart, Dances with Wolves, Forrest Gump and The Fugitive all breaking the two hour mark. You could say The Matrix influenced other directors with its bullet-time-style filming, but no one got a chance to copy that until after the year 2000.

Beowulf director Robert Zemeckis and Disney are in negotiations to remake Yellow Submarine, the famous animated film based on the music of the Beatles.
According to Variety, Disney is working on a “complicated rights deal” that would let Zemeckis use 16 famous Beatles songs including “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” “All You Need Is Love,” and of course, the title track. Zemeckis would use the same motion-capture technology that can be seen in his “A Christmas Carol,” which is due to release in November. That film stars Jim Carrey as the three ghosts of Christmas, along with Ebenezer Scrooge.
In the original Yellow Submarine, the Beatles themselves did not appear in the film until the closing scene, as other actors provided their voices.
Sources have said that this deal has been in the making for months, and might also lead Yellow Submarine to Broadway in the not-so-distant future.

Disney and director Robert Zemeckis' ImageMovers are developing a 3-D Yellow Submarine film for 2010, remaking The Beatles 1968 animated feature.
New spin-offs will include fresh merchandising, a Broadway musical and Cirque du Soleil stage production.
Zemeckis secured access to 16 original Beatles songs including "Baby You.re a Rich Man," "All You Need Is Love," "When I.m 64," "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" and "Sgt. Pepper.s Lonely Hearts Club Band".
The plan is to incorporate the 3-D performance-capture format utilized on the upcoming A Christmas Carol feature.
Premise of director George Dunning's original Yellow Submarine is set in 'Pepperland', an undersea paradise protected by 'Sgt. Pepper.s Lonely Hearts Club Band', who are captured by the 'Blue Meanies, until the 'Fab Four' Beatles are summoned to save the day.

Disney and Robert Zemeckis are joining forces to develop a remake of Yellow Submarine, the 1968 animated feature based on music by the Beatles. Just like Zemeckis’ Polar Express and the upcoming A Christmas Carol, the new Submarine will utilize 3-D performance-capture.
The storyline of the original Yellow Submarine, directed by George Dunning, was set in Pepperland, an undersea paradise protected by Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. When the band is captured by the music-hating Blue Meanies, a soldier is sent to Liverpool to fetch the Fab Four, who hop in the submarine and save the day.
The Beatles appeared only in the film’s closing live-action scene. Actors provided the voices for the animated incarnations of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

Another day, another remake. Variety is reporting that Robert Zemeckis is negotiating with Disney to remake The Beatle's Yellow Submarine, the 1968 psychedelic animated film (watch the trailer). Zemeckis will turn the film into a CGI feature and shoot it using performance-capture digital 3-D the same way he did for A Christmas Carol. The hope is to have the new version of Yellow Submarine ready to premiere around the 2012 Summer Olympics, which begins July 27th that year in London. Disney has been quietly brokering a complicated rights deal that would give Zemeckis access to 16 original Beatles songs for use in the film.

It’s Alive! Indy Five Frank Marshall, who was probably the most whip-cracking producer on the set of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, tells British movie rag Empire that the team is gearing up to make a fifth installment in the cliffhanger series.
