Back on November 23 we reported that Fringe star Joshua Jackson was set to star in an adaptation of UK television producer Gerry Anderson's 1970 live action series, UFO. Jackson would star as Col. Paul Foster, played by Michael Billington in the original series. Today we're learning from the website Forbidden Planet that Heroes star Ali Larter is being sought to take on the role of Col. Virginia Lake, who was played in the original series by actress Wanda Ventham.
In a new interview with Forbidden Planet, the adaptation's director, Matthew Gratzner, discusses the new film in some detail, and also talks about his desire to see Larter — who is currently the frontrunner for the role — in the project.
"We've talked to Ali Larter, who's very interested," he said. "I've actually met with her, and I think she would be a great addition to the picture. Lake is very strong and obviously also very feminine,

Tiger Woods' famous car crash just gets weirder and weirder.
It turns out that when the golfer ended up at Health Central Hospital that fateful Friday, Nov. 27, his charts list "Od" and breathing problems as the reasons why he was admitted, claims TMZ.
Hmm, overdose? Too much with the ladies and drugs? Oh, Tiger, your stripes continue to fade.
We wonder why the reported facial lacerations and other trauma that would be consistent with a car crash weren't on the admissions chart.
According to the gossip site's reports, Wood's "courageous" wife Elin
Nordegren was at the scene of that fateful Florida accident and gave
two pill bottles for Ambien and Vicodin to the paramedics. What was
Tiger doing all this time? Reportedly slipping in and out of
consciousness and snoring.
Tiger was admitted under a false name, William Smith (not to be
confused with "Hancock" star Will Smith) and

Quentin Tarantino on why he turned down chance to direct Green Lantern

Given his very distinctive film-making style, what would a director such as Quentin Tarantino do with a superhero movie?
That may seem like a random thought with no basis in reality. But it transpires that Tarantino not only based his Inglourious Basterds on Marvel Comics' war series Sgt Fury and His Howling Commandos, but was asked to direct the big-screen adaptation of DC Comics' hero Green Lantern for Warner Bros.
Since then, Casino Royale's Martin Campbell ended up at the helm of Green Lantern, with Ryan Reynolds in the star role.
Tarantino explained to MTV: "I was offered the Green Lantern. Not since it's been a script, but just like, 'Hey we own the 'Green Lantern.' Would you like it?'"
He declined, although he insists he is a big comic book fan: "There's a little part of me that's like, 'Wow, if I was in my 20s,

Hancock sequel held up, says director Peter Berg

Back in August, two writers were hired by Columbia to pen a sequel to the Will Smith superhero hit Hancock.
Director Peter Berg said the follow-up would expand on the original's mythology by introducing other immortal beings.
But he also indicated that despite the studio's desire to fast-track the project, all the key players were busy and there was no 'burning imperative' to rush right back into it.
Now Berg has admitted there will be a long wait for the sequel to come together.
Speaking to Latino Review, he said: "It's being written now and it's an issue of everybody involved in Hancock. There are so many cooks in that particular kitchen that it's so busy and Will [Smith] has kind of taken time off to be with his kids.
"There are so many people involved in that, from Will to his partner James Lassiter to Akiva [Goldsman] to Michael Mann, myself

Director Peter Berg is still hoping to fly alongside "Hancock 2," but that plane isn't ready for takeoff just yet.
During a visit to the set of Berg's currently filming "Battleship," Latino Review learned that the director's intentions to dive into a "Hancock" sequel have been stifled by a variety of factors, not the least of which are the busy schedules of himself, Will Smith and their collaborators.
"It's being written now and it's an issue of everybody involved in 'Hancock,'" Berg said of the movie's development. "There are so many cooks in that particular kitchen that it's so busy and Will [Smith] has kind of taken time off to be with his kids."

Peter Berg Hints 'Hancock' Sequel Fraught with Politics

Director Peter Berg was pretty vocal back in September about being ready to get started on a sequel to Hancock. But, as so often happens in Hollywood, projects get shuffled about and given different priority. And Berg's priority now seems to have shifted from the Hancock sequel — along with the Dune remake — over to Hasbro's Battleship (about which we reported yesterday).
Berg told HitFix that while the Hancock sequel is on his to-do list, it actually won't even be his next project after Battleship. He will instead take on the "Lone Survivor" drama that tells the story of 17 seals that were killed in one gunfight in Afghanistan. "One survived," Berg told HitFix. "It's a great story."
As to the Hancock sequel, Berg revealed a small measure of the politics that seems to have surrounded the project. "There are so many cooks in that particular kitchen that are so busy and

Smith Puts Hancock Sequel On Hold

The upcoming sequel to superhero comedy Hancock has been put on hold to allow Will Smith to spend more time with his family, according to director Peter Berg.
The moviemaker recently confirmed Smith and his co-star Charlize Theron will both reprise their roles in a follow-up to the hit 2008 movie.
But Berg admits they have put plans for the second film back because the superstar actor is taking a break from movies to enjoy life with his wife, Jada, and help his son, Jayden, tackle a starring role in the new Karate Kid picture.
Berg is adamant Hancock 2 will get made, but it may take longer than first expected.
He tells The Latino Review, "It's being written now and it's an issue of everybody involved in Hancock. There are so many cooks in that particular kitchen that it's so busy and Will has kind of taken time off to be with his kids and his kids are now making all kinds of films. There are so many people involved in that, from Will to his (business) partner James Lassiter to Michael Mann, myself and to get us all in the same room just like this where we can all talk and then agree on anything, you've never met a group of people that have a harder time agreeing on anything.
"It's like the Israeli peace process times a thousand how tough it is to resolve. I think it'll happen though. We just have to kind of get in the same room for some consistency."

There’s been much talk about a sequel to the 2008 surprise superhero hit, Hancock, with conversation picking up particularly when it comes to the cast of Will Smith, Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman possibly returning to do another. Director Peter Berg said a few months ago that everyone was excited to return, but not long after that Bateman came out and said he hadn’t heard anything about him returning (we’re still not sure if that cluelessness was applicable to Smith and Theron, too).
However, when Berg sounded pretty excited about directing Hancock 2, that was before he landed the Battleship gig, a big-screen adaptation set for release in 2011 with a production start date of Spring 2010. That ties Berg up a lot for what I would guess would be the better part of a year. And that appears to be one of the big reasons why we shouldn’t expect Hancock 2 anytime soon.

Lots of Details About Peter Berg’s ‘Battleship’

As if the idea of a movie based on the board game Battleship wasn’t worrying enough, it was recently announced that the bad guys are going to be aliens. Although, Fyi, take my opinion about the antagonists with a big grain of salt, as I don’t think a Battleship movie is a good idea to begin with.
It appears that studio Universal and director Peter Berg have been lending their ears to the negative reaction their Battleship movie has gotten – particularly about the aliens being the “villains,” and so the studio sent some journalists and bloggers to the U.S.S. Sterett, where they got a chance to ask questions to Berg about the project.
Thanks to reports from Latino Review and Chud, we now have some insight into what shape Berg’s Battleship may take:

Hollywood Man Peter Berg Shows Off His Battleship

Actor-turned-director Peter Berg has been discussing his latest projects with Latino Review and gave updates on Hancock 2, The Rundown 2 and even talked about why he dropped his planned remake of sci-fi classic Dune last month.
It’s been an interesting career for Berg who began in bit parts and supporting roles in a plethora of top films: from Copland to Collateral. Earlier this decade he switched from his acting day job to directing features. He is currently one of Hollywood’s most entertaining filmmakers. Scoring a massive hit with last year’s Will Smith anti-superhero actioner Hancock, he’s seemingly picking his next projects with glee. Next on the slate (after Lone Survivor) is the boardgame adaptation called Battleship.
Berg picked up the film back in May, but since that initial announcement cinephiles have been scratching their heads over how the simple boardgame might be converted into film. You

I do wonder what the meeting at Universal Studios with Peter Berg and the Hoeber brothers must have been like as they were discussing their ideas to make a movie based on the extremely simple pencil and paper game Battleship… with aliens being the antagonists! Just in case there is anybody out there who doesn’t quite grasp the ridiculousness of this, I’ll repeat – there was a meeting, in Hollywood, where a bunch of executives and artists sat around to discuss making a movie from a game that is too basic to possibly be adapted into a feature length film, so it was decided that a movie involving a human naval fleet engaged in combat with aliens would be made instead and still be marketed as ‘Battleship the Movie’. Is this really what major movie studios have reduced themselves to?
Universal Studios recently invited some Us based journalists to

It's hard to come up with different and creative ways to introduce a new film to the cynical press, but Universal Pictures and filmmaker Peter Berg were able to pull off that difficult feat on Monday when they brought a select group of journalists to San Diego to tour the active-duty destroyer U.S.S. Sterett. The reason for the rare sneak peek inside one of America's most advanced warships? Why Berg's upcoming big screen incarnation of the Hasbro game "Battleship," of course. As if adapting a movie based on a board game isn’t difficult enough, Peter Berg’s adaptation of Battleship ran into serious rough waters* when it was revealed that the antagonist of the movie would be aliens. Aliens vs. Battleships. Wisely, Berg and Universal realized that the only way to combat such a negative reaction so far in advance of the film’s release was to open the floor to online journalists and withhold as little as possible. And after reading the coverage, especially from Chud.com and Latino Review, Berg has washed away some serious doubts. He describes his plans for the aliens, how he plans to tell the story, the characters, as well as throwing in some bonus, non-Battleship-related news relating to Hancock 2 and a possible sequel to The Rundown. Hit the jump to become a believer in Battleship.

While speaking about his forthcoming Battleship movie, Berg told members of the press that the Hancock update will eventually happen, but he probably won't be available to shoot it until after 2010. The Friday Night Lights creator has a busy schedule ahead of him with work on Battleship and drama Lone Survivor. Scheduling conflicts with various people involved in the proposed sequel, including Will Smith, also need to be worked out, he said. 'The Road' Explores the Knife-Edge of Human Entropy

The post-apocalyptic drama The Road begins with shots of barking dogs, blooming flowers, and nuzzling horses, but it is soon revealed that these everyday pleasures are fading memories for its protagonists. With a palette of grays and browns, it quickly shifts to the leafless trees and broken ground of a wasteland that has only barely survived an unnamed catastrophe. The world smolders when it doesn't all-out burn, and the vestiges of humanity struggle to survive and retain the things that made them human.
Amid bands of roving cannibals, an unnamed father (Viggo Mortensen, Eastern Promises) and his son (Kodi Smit-McPhee, Romulus, My Father) have left their home behind and are traveling toward the coast with hopes that the warmer weather and proximity to the ocean will provide a haven. The Man remembers the world before, but The Boy was born to The Man's wife (Charlize Theron, Hancock) after the apocalypse.
