Storyline

An aged Mexican man recounts a vivid memory of his youth: The year was 1959. At the age of 17, Niño arrived to California from Mexico to live with his father, Chappa, on a modest cattle ranch in the rural coastal Santa Lucia Mountains. Working tedious hours as a ranch-hand, Niño found himself trapped within the confines of a barbed wire world. Niño could not imagine a life different than the laborious one he led. That was, until a cow broke free from the herd and discovered a bizarre opening in the fence. Niño tracked the cow across the fence-line and into the wild unknown. Niño's discovery of the unexplored world beyond the barbed wire fence changed his life forever. Written by T.P.

Well done, beautiful film.
8 June 2005 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Saw this film in New York. The acting, cinematography, and timing are absolutely beautiful, as well as absorbing. I was stunned when I saw the film. This quality is rarely seen anymore. There was excellent original music, which enhanced the mood of the film, subtly supporting the acting. The setting was stunning--apparently the Central Coast of California. The message was also one that more Americans should hear--that we are all alike and have the same relationships (even if you are a Mexican laborer). The acting was real; the relationship between the father and son was totally believable. We need more films like this--with originality in topic and presentation. This film is a "must see."
