Getting 'Lost,' Week 6: "I Guess It's All Relative Now, Huh?"

7 October 2009 4:15 AM, PDT | buddytv.com | See recent BuddyTV news »

The "Getting Lost" series is about a Lost newbie's attempts to watch all five seasons of the show for the first time, just as the sixth (and final) one rolls along.

What I Watched on Week 6: Season 2, Episodes 9-15 ("What Kate Did", "The 23rd Psalm", "The Hunting Party", "Fire + Water", "The Long Con", "One of Them" and "Maternity Leave")

At many points in the past few weeks I thought destiny is playing a hand with my Lost watching.  Fine, I still am not able to keep track of all of the small details, but honestly that isn't the priority right now.  I'm thinking of the way the episodes I watch always immediately answer the questions I leave floating when I write my weekly dispatches on this side of the Internet. »

October 2: DVD alternatives to this weekend’s multiplex offerings

2 October 2009 9:07 AM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

We know how it is: You’d like to go to the movies this weekend, but all those zombies roaming the land aren’t gonna kill themselves. But you can have a multiplex-like experience at home with a collection of the right DVDs. And when someone asks you on Monday, “Hey, did you see Zombieland this weekend?” you can reply, “No, I fought the undead scourge from the safety of my sofa, with laughter as my weapon.” Instead Of: Zombieland, in which nebbish Jesse Eisenberg and kickass Woody Harrelson team up to kill the walking undead in a zombie-ravaged America, and have a blast doing it... Watch: Shaun of the Dead (2004), with which this flick will inevitably be compared; though they are very different -- Zombieland isn’t a parody, as Shaun is -- they do share a certain sly disdain for the conventions of zombie horror. The undead are on the march, »

Updates: Top 50 Hottest Young Actors - Moving up the rankings!

13 September 2009 3:23 PM, PDT | The Movie Fanatic | See recent The Movie Fanatic news »

Time flies when you're having fun! I'm surprised that we're now doing the 4th update of the Top 50 Hottest Young Actors list! This time, I'm pretty sure the debates will be hotter, more 'personal' as fans defend their favorite actors and argue why "Robert Ulliel" (Who's that?) should be on top and not "Gaspard Pattinson" or "Joseph Gordon-Gosling".

- - -

- - - The Hitlist History, so far... During the first Top 50 Hitlist, it was Ryan Gosling who took the top spot. With his mesmerizing performance in Half Nelson and an Oscar nom for Best Actor for the same movie, he led a pack of awesome talents including James McAvoy, Jake Gyllenhaal and Gaspard Ulliel among others. The 2nd time we did the hitlist, the movie world was swept away by the Twilight fever, and before anyone recognized how 'hot' he was, Robert Pattinson was already at the top of our list. »

Adventureland Stars Interviewed

28 August 2009 4:28 AM, PDT | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart are two of the finest young actors in Hollywood. Eisenberg has appeared in Roger Dodger, The Emperor’s Club, Cursed, The Hunting Party and his break-out movie, The Squid and the Whale, a well-reviewed independent drama with Laura Linney and Jeff Daniels. Stewart, meanwhile, first rose to international prominence starring opposite Jodie Foster in Panic Room. She has since starred in Cold Creek Manor, Zathura, Fierce People, In the Land of Women, Into the Wild and the global smash Twilight, she is also set to reprise her role as Bella Swan in this year’s The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

In Adventureland Stewart stars as Em Lewin, the first girl to steal the heart of the film’s main protagonist, James Brennan, played by Eisenberg. They spark on screen and in real life, encouraging each other throughout the interview…

Richard Shepard is 'Brooklyn' Bound

2 June 2009 | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

- Richard Shepard is set to continue working in awkward comedy formulas, after The Matador and The Hunting Party he'll be taking on a remake of an Israeli film for Overture films. Scripted by Daniel Taplitz and smartly re-baptized as The Angriest Man in Brooklyn, this is based on 1997 Israeli film "Mar Baum" (written and directed by Assi Dayan, son of the late Israeli defense minister Moshe Dayan) and tells the tale of a man who, upon learning he is about to die, must decide whether to spend his limited time (92 minutes) rushing to get things done or slow down and enjoy his final moments. The project was kicking around since 2004 when Revolution Studios had optioned the remake.  ... »

Predators Has A Writer In Its Sights

5 May 2009 12:15 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

With Robert Rodriguez producing the forthcoming Predator reboot/sequel/spinoff, all ears and eyes were on who would write and direct the Sci-Fi actioner. Well, don’t worry as we now know that Alex Litvak will be putting pen to paper or whatever that guy uses to write (probably Final Draft, but that’s not important).

Litvak will be rewriting an original script that Rodriguez wrote on spec about 15 years ago, but it was shelved due to budget restrictions and because 20th Century Fox instead wanted to ruin the franchise along with the Alien series with the Avp movies.

But the big question is -  who is this Litvak guy?

Well, he’s pretty much an unknown commodity as he’s never had any screenplays produced, although his IMDb page has an an in-development project named Medieval to his credit and he’s listed as producer on Richard Shepard’s »

Predator Reboot/Sequel Gets a Writer

5 May 2009 10:33 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Things are continuing to move rather quickly on Robert Rodriguez's previously announced Predator reboot, tentatively titled Predators, which is now on the fast track over at 20th Century Fox. Although the movie was believed to be based on an old script that Rodriguez wrote back in the '90s, they have gone ahead and hired a new writer for the project anyway. According to Bloody Disgusting [1], that writer is Alex Litvak, whose only writing credit to date is the upcoming New Regency film Medieval. It has been described as "The Dirty Dozen in the age of castles, plagues and serfs", and McG was rumoured to be interested in directing. One other interesting credit that Litvak has on his resume is that he was a co-producer for The Hunting Party, the Richard Gere film about a journalist and camera crew trying to track down a Bosnian war criminal. Basically he »

Adventureland

3 April 2009 6:42 PM, PDT | TheMovingPicture.net | See recent TheMovingPicture news »

A mixture of laughs and genuinely charming moments, fueled by a great cast and a rocking soundtrack, Greg Mottola’s Adventureland, his follow-up to 2007’s Superbad, is one of the best films of the year and another highlight on a rising writer/director’s filmography. When his post-graduate trip to Europe is cancelled due to lack of funds, James (Jesse Eisenberg) is forced to get a summer job and prepare to move out of his parents house and into the big city – New York. With a less-than-stellar resume and a degree that doesn’t seem to apply to anything, James lands a gig at the local amusement park, which is filled with various hooligans including a pipe-smoking “loser” named Joel (Martin Starr), heartthrob musician/maintenance worker Connell (Ryan Reynolds) and the laid-back Em (Kristen Stewart). While James initially loathes the thought of working at the rundown Adventureland, he quickly gets »

Adventureland (review)

2 April 2009 12:59 PM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

Summer of 1987. Oh, these kids are my temporal peeps. That was my first summer after high school, and even though this is the first summer after undergrad for James Brennan (Jesse Eisenberg) in Adventureland, it feels familiar to me. Hell, writer-director Greg Mottola -- Superbad filmmaker and Apatow alum -- based his script on his own experiences at the real Adventureland in Farmingdale, New York, on Long Island, not far from where I grew up, mostly. So there’s a vibe that feels real to me. And yet... I like James. A lot. Eisenberg (The Hunting Party, The Village) has a quirky, sensitive cool that distinguishes him from the slew of teen or almost-teen movie ranks of the moment (Eisenberg is 25, in fact). He takes a job at the titular suburban Pittsburgh amusement park because he’s gotta make some dough for grad school -- Columbia Journalism! -- in the fall, »

No-one could come up with a better one, so we were stuck with it. "It was originally called Spring Break For Bosnia, but the irony of that didn't work.
