Jane (Streep) is the mother of three grown kids, owns a thriving Santa Barbara bakery/restaurant and has—after a decade of divorce—an amicable relationship with her ex-husband, attorney Jake (Baldwin). Trailer - Streep, Martin, Baldwin in 'It's Complicated'

7 November 2009 5:10 PM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

I don't have a lot of tolerance for Nancy Meyers movies. As a director, she's one for four, with Something's Gotta Give getting by because of its good cast. Maybe another solid collection of talent can help steer her latest, It's Complicated, in the right direction. I'm not holding out hope, though.

I mean, it can't possibly be as lame as The Holiday...or can it? Well, the central story is redeemable, at least: Divorcee Meryl Streep is having an affair with Alec Baldwin, who is her ex-husband. Of course, their kids can't know, and she's trying to hide it from Steve Martin, an architect with a thing for Streep, and who I presume is building a post-divorce home for her.

I'm not saying I'd rearrange my schedule to see it, but if I were a 50-year-old woman, I think I'd probably choose this over, say, Avatar. So in that respect, »

It’s Complicated Trailer: Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin Get It On

5 November 2009 6:22 PM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Alec Baldwin is randomly crying. Meryl Streep is a little bit of a slut. Steve Martin, still crazy. And writer/director Nancy Meyers -- purveyor of such estrogen-infused classics as What Women Want, Something's Gotta Give and The Holiday -- is back again for another round of romcom with It's Complicated. This time, she's taking the story of a divorced woman (Streep) who starts having a fling with her fast-talking ex-husband (Baldwin), even though he's now married to a younger woman (Lake Bell) and she's got a thing with her architect (Steve Martin). It's all very derivative -- the kind of romantic comedy you take with a dose of promethazine (via suppository, of course) for your arthritis. You know, the ultimate sequel to Meyers' Mel Gibson collaboration, What Old People Want. Alas, there is no doubt that Alec Baldwin will be his stock brand of hilarious and Meryl Streep will be her stock brand of graceful, classy »

30 October 2009 10:31 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Opening next Friday is writer/director Richard Kelly’s “The Box”. The movie is set around a deceptively simple moral dilemma.  An average couple is offered an opportunity to get themselves out of financial difficulty: a million dollars, in exchange for the knowledge that their acceptance of this gift will result in the death of one person somewhere in the world - someone they don’t know.  The big question is, “What will they do?”  But writer/director Richard Kelly is also asking, “What would you do?”

So to help promote the film, we’ve been provided with five clips from the movie.  If you want to stay spoiler free, I strongly suggest not watching these clips.  But if you’d like a taste of Richard Kelly’s next film, hit the jump and take a look.

Finally, hypothetically speaking…if I were to have seen “The Box”…I might »

Parish Baby Joy

13 October 2009 2:56 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

British actress Sarah Parish is pregnant with her second child - nine months after her eight-month-old daughter lost her battle with a heart problem.

The Holiday star's first child, Ella-Jayne, was born five weeks prematurely with a hole in her heart and, after months of intensive care and surgery, she passed away in January.

But Parish and her actor husband James Murray are celebrating again after discovering the star is pregnant again.

Producers of her hit BBC show Mistresses have reportedly delayed the filming of the next series of the saucy drama to ensure Parish has a stress-free pregnancy.

A pal of the actress tells the Sunday Mirror newspaper, "Sarah's thrilled to be pregnant and wants to make sure she does everything in her power to deliver a happy, healthy baby." »

Barbra Streisand recycled movie set as basement

5 October 2009 5:55 AM, PDT | Boxwish.com | See recent BoxWish news »

It breaks our hearts here at Team Boxwish to think of movie sets being trashed once production shuts down. Of course, this doesn’t happen with every film, (it could be hard to wipe out some of the stately homes that impress onscreen), but the knowledge that the cute cottage owned by Kate Winslet in The Holiday is no longer with us or that many of the Hobbiton holes from The Lord of the Rings have now been returned to farming land, has us frowning in a most unattractive way. Well it seems that we’re not alone in lamenting this waste as none other than legendary star Barbra Streisand has felt so enamoured with a movie set as to preserve it. Yes, the two-time Oscar-winner grew so attached to the set for her comedy Meet the Fockers that she took some of it home with her. Now that’s one cool job perk! »

How InterContinental Is Redesigning The World's Largest Hotel Chain

22 September 2009 10:00 AM, PDT | Fast Company | See recent Fast Company news »

With more than 3,200 hotels around the world, InterContinental Hotel Group's Holiday Inn is the most recognized and most popular hotel brand in the world--every second, three people check into a Holiday Inn property. This year, the hotel embarked upon a massive global relaunch, the largest in hospitality history. And after conducting extensive research to find out what was important to their guests, Holiday Inn focused on several physical changes in the hotels and rooms. Beginning with a rollout of a new logo and signage, followed by the revamp of every room and property, Holiday Inn then launched a multi-million dollar advertising campaign that reinforced the changes.

The lobby of the recently relaunched Holiday Inn at London Heathrow Airport shows an enhanced check-in experience with a de-cluttered front desk complimented by a signature back wall that communicates the clean and modern values travelers wanted.

Battle of the sexes: Does your significant other have a favorite movie that makes you cringe?

17 September 2009 11:00 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

I adore my wife. And I adore Kate Winslet. (For the record, in that order.) But something happens to my internal organs whenever my lovely turns on The Holiday, a recent cable television staple. It's simply a film I can't abide, and I don't think I can explain my revulsion rationally. I'm actually a great admirer of several of that film's actors, but even their performances inexplicably make me, well, aggressively irritated. For my wife, however, The Holiday (pictured, left) is comfort viewing. It doesn't matter which scene is playing when she tunes in, she's hooked until the closing credits. I imagine it has something to do with the vicarious thrill of living in Cameron Diaz's spacious L.A. pad or canoodling with Jude Law in an English hamlet. My reaction is quite different, and if I'm unfortunate enough to be around for the scene where Jack Black be-bops »

Cameron Diaz goes incognito in her old movie costumes

12 August 2009 4:32 AM, PDT | Boxwish.com | See recent BoxWish news »

One of the (countless) perks of being a movie star is the costumes. Many of Tinseltown’s brightest stars get to keep their onscreen outfits, augmenting their personal wardrobes with fancy freebies. Imagine how incredible a job bonus this is when working on fashion favourites such as Sex and the City, The Devil Wears Prada and Confessions of a Shopaholic, movies crammed with endless costume changes. Sure, it doesn’t always work, you might think twice about keeping a costume if cast as a Nazi soldier, medieval wench or caped superhero, but it turns out that even the most unglamorous and dowdy of movie costumes can come in handy. Just ask Cameron Diaz, who has revealed that she uses her past onscreen get-ups when out and about in public, keeping her celebrity status a mystery.

Streep + Martin + Baldwin = 'It's Complicated' Trailer

7 August 2009 8:02 AM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Oh, Nancy Meyers. I thought The Holiday was endless pap, full of admittedly charming actors in predictable situations over the length of a Quentin Tarantino WWII riff or Michael Mann crime drama, and man, was I pleasantly surprised by Something's Gotta Give for precisely the first half before Diane Keaton's extended crying fit signaled the end of something playful and the beginning of something painful.

But this could be cute, this It's Complicated of yours. The trailer seems to suggest as much. Meryl Streep (in her third film of the year come Christmas time) finds herself torn between the renewed flame of her ex (Alec Baldwin) and the flirtations of her architect (Steve Martin). You know what, that actually seems surprisingly simple despite its title, and middle-aged romance is certainly in your wheelhouse, so the benefit of the doubt is indeed yours.

If I can just make one small request: keep it short. »
