Network Bosses Deny Spears Saved Sitcom

20 July 2008 6:15 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Network executives for U.S. sitcom How I Met Your Mother have slammed reports Britney Spears' guest role on their show saved it from being canned.

Spears was snubbed for her stint on the show earlier this month when she was left off the top 10 list of Emmy semifinalists in the Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series category.

And though show ratings soared when the pop star played a ditzy secretary in two recent episodes, CBS bosses insist it wasn't Spears who saved the show.

Network entertainment president Nina Tassler explains: "It (How I Met Your Mother) was never in danger; we just took a while to make the announcement (of its renewal)."

Chiefs at Spears' record label Jive were rumoured to be questioning her dedication to her comeback album when reports surfaced on Friday the Toxic star was more interested in focusing on her acting career.

CBS heads have not confirmed Spears will be making another return to the show.

Britney Spears' acclaimed stint on U.S. sitcom How I Met Your Mother hasn't earned her an Emmy nod - she and Mary-Kate Olsen's guest TV spots won't be among those competing for gold.

Both stars have been left off the top 10 list of Emmy semifinalists in the Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series category.

Instead, Sarah Silverman is a favourite for her part as an obsessed stalker in Monk, alongside Oscar nominee Amy Ryan for her star turn in The Office.

Others on the list include Carrie Fisher and Edie Falco for 30 Rock, and Polly Bergen and Shirley Knight for Desperate Housewives guest spots.

Her next album may not be dropping any time soon, but Britney Spears is dipping her toes back into the music scene, filming a cameo for the new Pussycat Dolls video. "It's a small part," says a source about the popstar's visit to the L.A. set of the group's video shoot for their new single, When I Grow Up, on Wednesday. Possibly saving her trademark moves for her own album, Spears was not expected to dance or perform with the girls in the video. While her recent TV meetings (she was spotted exiting the Merv Griffin offices last week) were strictly exploratory,

Actor Jason Segel was left red-faced on the set of U.S. sitcom How I Met Your Mother recently - when guest star Britney Spears blanked him after he made a joke.

So the comedian approached the Toxic singer to offer an alternative explanation for the choppers in the sky - but she didn't get his joke.

Segel says, "I went up to her and said, 'I'm sorry, I have this big movie coming out - this is what it's like for me.'

"She looked at me strangely and walked away."

'My Name Is Earl' kicks off the return of NBC's comedies

2 April 2008 6:35 AM, PDT | From Watcher | See recent Watcher news

It's good to see fresh episodes of comedy – fresh episodes of anything – returning to the broadcast networks. (And for info on what'll happen in the next few weeks on "The Office," "30 Rock" and "Scrubs," go to the end of this item.)

My Name Is Earl,” which comes back 7 p.m. Thursday on NBC, is celebrating with an hourlong episode called “I Won’t Die With a Little Help From My Friends.”

I’m generally inclined to give the show a pass – see the above statement regarding my happiness at comedy’s return. But I do wonder about what’s happened to “Earl” since it premiered.

“Earl’s” always been on the bawdy side and has frequently edged toward eyebrow-raising racial humor, but it seems as though it’s gotten more coarse and crass over its three seasons. I look back at delirious yet whimsical Season 1 episodes like “Joy’s

Spears Offered Receptionist Job By Peta

31 March 2008 6:59 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Pop star-turned-sitcom secretary Britney Spears has been offered a job working as a real receptionist for animal rights group People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (Peta).

Inspired by Spears' recent performance as a secretary on U.S. comedy show How I Met Your Mother, Peta president Ingrid E. Newkirk has made the Toxic singer a written job offer.

Peta bosses, who insist their offer isn't an early April Fool's Day joke, are targetting Spears because she has previously worn fur and bought animals from pet stores.

Newkirk writes, "After seeing your excellent performance on How I Met Your Mother, Peta would like to offer you a real job as a receptionist.

"It could be for as little as an hour, and you would see - from the inside - why we are so concerned about issues like fur and homeless dogs and cats.

"As a 'thank you' for your willingness to learn and help, we would donate $1,000 to a children's charity."

Segel Has Second Thoughts About Penis Shots

27 March 2008 8:05 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

How I Met Your Mother star Jason Segel fears he has ruined his dating life after revealing all in his new movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

The single Knocked Up star shows off his genitals in the film and now fears any future girlfriend will use the movie for research before agreeing to romance him.

He says, "I thought it would be fun. I thought I'd walk out naked and they'd yell, 'Action,' but no, it's not like that at all. You show up and realise you're about to be naked in front of 300 people.

"I also had a realisation right before I walked out that did not help... there aren't too many women out there who just love a small penis. That's all I kept thinking.

"The (censors) Mpaa made a specific rule that as long as it's flaccid, it's still an 'R' rating, but you don't want to be too flaccid!

"At one point there were seven penis shots and now we've got it down to four. There was one shot that really disturbed me. One of the shots they framed was just half my penis and it looked really, really weird. People fainted and cried.

"I'm interested to see how it affects my life. It's weird when my family sees it. I saw it with my mother at the first test screening which was horribly embarrassing.

"I don't know how it's gonna affect my dating life. It'll be like, 'You've already seen me naked!'"

Spears To Play Streetcar's Blanche DuBOIS In London?

27 March 2008 5:20 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Britney Spears' critically-acclaimed TV appearance in How I Met Your Mother has landed her the chance to hit the West End stage in London.

The troubled singer has been offered the lead role in a forthcoming London production of Tennessee Williams' play A Streetcar Named Desire.

A show insider tells Britain's Daily Star newspaper, "She has poise, timing and a real flair. We'd wanted her for Blanche because even though she's technically too young to play her, who else could embody this fallen southern belle so well?

"She's living out the story, so to harness that on stage would be amazing for an audience to see - and cathartic for Britney too."

Spears isn't the only new mum who is being considered for the Blanche DuBois role; Halle Berry is also among the front-runners to land the role, according to reports.
