I don't think anyone cried over the cancellation of According to Jim, which managed to stay on the air seemingly due to some kind of deal with the devil, for eight cruel seasons. But 2009 also saw the end of some of our favorite shows here at TV Squad.
Some of these series finales left us in tears, some of them sparked debate, and a few even left us wondering, "what did I just watch?"
After the jump you'll find a list of six notable series finales for 2009. Feel free to share your thoughts about the finales in the comments, and don't forget to tell us about your favorites that didn't make the list. (And needless to say, there be spoilers below!)

(S02E03) This wasn't the great Dr. Bhamba-centric episode I've been hoping for since season one, but it'll do. Watching Bhamba and Lem work together to solve Stella Clifton's insane equation was a blast. And so was learning about the disturbing lack of crocodiles in Bhamba's dreams. But this ep was less about my favorite wacky underused character and more about a competition between two co-workers and an odd dynamic between a mother and her son.
Let's start with Ted and Linda. Veridian finally gave Linda a pat on the back after she came up with an idea for a scented light bulb that comes in "aromas ranging from zucchini bread to fresh laundry." Good for her. Sadly, the company's decision to greenlight Linda's smelly bulbs meant Ted's idea for a super long lasting bulb was shelved. I was hoping to see Ted squirm a little more to win back the company's favor, »

Norad is already tracking Santa Claus and his airborne reindeer team as it heads south from the North Pole and ignores boring Canada to give delightful Christmas presents to all the good American boys and girls. Fortunately, the U.S. Air Force apologized for that anti-aircraft missile that almost nicked Dasher. They sent a fruit basket and everything.
The point is that you don't have much time to snag holiday toys for your TV fan friends and those few kids you actually like. Fortunately, there still some popular toys out there that can serve multiple gift giving purposes.
The I Love Lucy Barbie from Mattel (right) sells for $45, so it might be more appropriate for an adult toy collector (an adult who collects TV-related toys, I mean). But, a Barbie is a Barbie, and few girls would turn one down -- even if it features Lucy Ricardo auditioning for a »

The BBC's official YouTube channel is offering free Christmas gifts to sci-fi fans in the form of a classic hero and a field full of deadly plants. The move gives American viewers a great (legal) chance to catch up on quality productions that didn't (yet?) make their way over to BBC America.
Among the many full episodes of BBC programming now awaiting your computer's perusal is the creepy 1981 production of Day of the Triffids. Most pop culture and horror buffs know the title from the 1962 monster movie of the same title. But this BBC production was a much more faithful and in-depth production of John Wyndham's book.
The online series serves as a great lead-in to the new BBC production of Triffids -- set to premiere Dec. 28.

I confess I've written more than my fair share of posts complaining about the never-ending march of paranormal, ghost busting shows haunting TV these days. You know the shows I refer to -- the "documentaries" promising to prove the existence of ghosts without ever finding anything resembling actual proof.
Every time I've written something bemoaning the arrival of another such show, I think it has to be over soon. There can't be another hour of clods stumbling around in night vision and reacting to sights and sounds the audience doesn't get to experience.
But, they keep coming. They keep finding nothing. But, evidently, people keep watching them. Now, we have Ghost Intervention -- running through December. The 4-part docu-series from Tlc "chronicles a case manager and a team of women with psychic abilities as they try to help different families who are struggling with paranormal activity in their homes."

Though I still haven't forgiven the great Dr. Abraham Van Helsing for allowing that awful movie with Hugh Jackman to be made about him -- or for not showing up and killing the entire cast of the Twilight -- I'm excited to catch his descendants on the new British import, Demons.
A new horror series from the writers of past British hits Hex and Merlin, Demons features Philip Glenister (Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes) as cold, stern American Rupert Galvin. The yank must recruit the last descendant of Van Helsing to join forces with him commit to life battling monsters -- before those monsters kill him.
Demons unveils a world just out of humans' sight -- full of vampires and other inhumans. (Insert joke about politicians here.) Luke Rutherford (Christian Cooke) is the "everykid" teenager forced to come to terms with the harsh reality that he's the direct descendant of the vampire-hunting Van Helsing. »

On the seventh day of Festivus, TV gave to me... Seven shows a-thrivin'.
The 2009-2010 season is a great one to be on TV-- especially for returning dramas and new comedies. If we had 20 days of Christmas, I probably could have filled the list with shows that were either thriving right out of the gate or making a resurgence after being on the air for several years. As it is, we just have seven slots, so here are some noteworthy series that are thriving this year.
I've always liked Dexter, but it's never been appointment TV for me. I've generally been content to wait until the season came out on DVD and knock all of the episodes out in a weekend. However, after a creative dip in season 3, I've found myself positively glued to my television every Sunday night that season 4 has aired. John Lithgow absolutely made the season as the creepy Arthur Mitchell. »

A poster for Hatchet director Adam Green's Frozen has been making the rounds, and now Fango has a look at the unmarked image. The filmmakers sent over the artwork last night fresh off of their debut at the recent Butt-Numb-a-Thon in Austin. For those just getting in on the action, Cody Blue Snider posted three exclusive blogs from the set of the film (read 'em here: One, Two, Three) and you can get some of Kane Hodder's thoughts on the film right here.
See the poster and details below. Frozen opens February 5, 2010 from Anchor Bay.
A typical day on the slopes turns into a chilling nightmare for three snowboarders when they get stranded on the chairlift before their last run. As the ski patrol switches off the night lights, they realize with growing panic that they’ve been left behind dangling high off the ground with no way down. »

Kevin Zegers (Transamerica, Dawn of the Dead), Shawn Ashmore (X-Men, The Ruins) and Emma Bell (Dollhouse, Supernatural) star in this intense suspense thriller that follows three skiers who are mistakenly stranded on a chairlift, forced to make life-or-death choices that prove more perilous than staying put and freezing to death. Beyond the break you'll find a hi-res look at the official one sheet from writer/director Adam Green (Hatchet) and Producer Peter Block (Saw I-vi, Crank, Rambo), along with the full synopsis for the film arriving in theaters February 5 from Anchor Bay. (S02E02) Most people have trouble separating their work life from their life life. But if you're employed by Veridian Dynamics, your work life is your life life. Always and forever.
So, like Linda in this episode, forget about writing that children's book you've been talking about for years, because the company owns the rights to anything you create -- even stories about lemurs that look like unhappily married scientists. And, like Ted, don't bring your daughter to the company day care service. You'll just end up milking her for inside information about the latest round of layoffs. Oh, and like poor ol' Lem, never ever do it with a company lawyer on company time, unless you can afford $300 an hour.

Last month Rogue Events organized an intimate event for less than 100 Supernatural fans to sit down and chat with Supernatural actors: Mitch Pileggi, Mark Pellegrino, Chris Gauthier and Rob Benedict in Birmingham,UK. BuddyTV was lucky enough to have Lynda Lees, our special Guest Columnist, sit down and ask some questions.
The evening began light hearted and humorous with a few brief hello's and a photo session. Then they all took the stage again for an hour long stage talk, opening up the floor to questions from the audience, and without prompts, they gave insights into their lives and careers to date!
I took the opportunity, on behalf of BuddyTV Supernatural fans, to ask them all, some questions relating to both the show and to other areas of their lives. »

The Dark Side came to Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane's house Saturday night in the form of both the worst weather Los Angeles has seen in years and the DVD release party for the Empire Strikes Back parody, Something Something Something Dark Side.
The follow-up to the successful Star Wars: Episode IV -- "A New Hope" spoof, Blue Harvest, Dark Side follows the exploits of Luke Skywalker (Chris Griffin, voiced by Seth Green), Han Solo (the MacFarlane-voiced Peter Griffin -- who insists on a new Rebel Alliance code name: Carlos Spicy Wiener) and their heroic friends as they flee the pursuing Imperial Fleet and Darth Vader (Stewie, also MacFarlane).
To celebrate the DVD's December 22 release, MacFarlane hosted a star (wars) studded Christmas party at his estate in the upper reaches of Beverly Hills. Reporters were rounded up, blind-folded and transported via unmarked black helicopters to MacFarlane's home to »

When the Syfy show Sanctuary first started out, it did so as a made-for-the-web, paid downloadable series, sans network. The Vancouver-produced program, created by writer/producer Damon Kindler and exec produced by 'Stargate' veteran Amanda Tapping (also the show's star), generated plenty of positive buzz across the Interwebs, and before long Syfy (then Sci Fi Channel) came a-calling.
Some argued that the producers had "sold out" to a network, abandoning the pioneering spirit which they had first embraced…while others quickly realized that the model of creating a hit on the web might just be one way for new projects to get the attention of the old media guard. They were right, and it did.
Sanctuary was just the first salvo, it seems. The current economic downturn, combined with a strengthening Canadian dollar, may have slowed production in Vancouver, but it's galvanized the city's stalwart journeyman industry, forging it from »
