Elfman Replaced On "The Wolfman"

14 November 2009 11:49 AM, PST | www.ohmygore.com/ | See recent OhMyGore news »

Famed "Batman", "Spider-man", "Men In Black" and "Wanted" composer Danny Elfman has been given the boot from the upcoming big budget "The Wolfman" remake according to Cinemusic.net and The Playlist. What's strange is Elfman had apparently already written an entire score for the new horror movie said to be similar to Wojciech Kilar's haunting work in "Bram Stocker's Dracula", however the film's constantly shifting release dates mean that Elfman simply doesn't have the time to stay with the project and finish his work. Instead, Paul Haslinger ("Underworld", "Shoot 'Em Up") has been brought onboard to do the film's soundtrack and no doubt give it a more grungy, rock-based sound. In a strange bit of similitude, Haslinger was a member of Tangerine Dream - the influential 80's electronic... »

Veteran's Day, 'Precious' And 'Fantastic Mr. Fox' In Today's Twitter-Wood

11 November 2009 3:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Veteran's Day brought no shortage of veteran appreciation today in Twitter-Wood, prompting thanks and memories from across the board, as well as a personal note from "Twilight" actor Gil Birmingham.

Meanwhile, Jason Schwartzman's on his way to the NYC debut of "Fantastic Mr. Fox," which as a Wes Anderson follower, I am anxious to see myself this weekend. Another new release, "Precious," really got a hold of Tyrese Gibson, who said the film's been keeping him awake. Check out their thoughts along with pictures from Peter Facinelli and John Stamos and a Henry Winkler autograph to be jealous of after the jump. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for November 11, 2009.

Owen: 'I respond to material instantly'

24 October 2009 12:46 PM, PDT | Digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news »

Clive Owen has reportedly claimed that he "instinctively" knows if he wants to work on a film. The 45-year-old actor, who recently revealed that he struggles to balance work and family, has said that he only agrees to work on a project if he's drawn to it. Owen told Bang Showbiz: "I don't set out to do something different each time I make a movie. I think at the end of the day, a career is made up of all the individual choices that I've made. "It is literally an instinctive response. I respond to material instantly. I read Shoot 'Em Up (more) »

Three More Actors Join Political Drama The Whistleblower

21 October 2009 5:28 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

At the risk of sounding uneducated, I'll admit only within the past couple years did I become aware of the term "whistleblower" as well as the sort of subgenre in drama focusing on the brave characters who dare to take down powerful people and organizations. Variety reports that Monica Belluci (Shoot 'Em Up), David Strathairn (The Bourne Ultimatum) and Vanessa Redgrave (Venus) are joining Rachel Weisz (The Brothers Bloom) in the true story of a policewoman who uncovers an international scandal in a film called, aptly, The Whistleblower. The film is a Canadian-German co-production in partnership with Barry Films. The film, which begins shooting in Romania next week directed by Larysa Kondracki, highlights a scandal involving both American contractors and the United Nations in postwar Bosnia. While Weisz is playing the title character Kathryn Bolkovac, a U.N. peacekeeper whom co-writers Ellis Kirwan and Larysa Kondracki (making her directorial debut »

Paul Giamatti on the Lost, Cold-Blooded Joys of Shoot 'Em Up

14 October 2009 7:50 AM, PDT | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

Exhausted the classic canon? Fed up with the current cinema of remakes, reboots and reimaginings? This week The Cold Case talks to Paul Giamatti, exhuming a recent, underappreciated gem by one of America's most charismatic acting talents.

Finding unexpected fame as a comic-book artist, railing against the evils of merlot, tangling with a backyard mermaid or trying to retrieve his soul from Russian gangsters: Paul Giamatti has blessed a disparate bunch of movies with his human hurrumph persona. But what unites these roles (and many of his others) is that familiar beaten-down frustration. Which is why it was such fun to see him do a 180-degree turn to play a snarlingly confident and utterly cold-blooded villain 2007's Shoot 'Em Up. »

The softer side of Clive Owen: Can you dig it?

26 September 2009 8:00 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Ever since I saw Croupier while visiting London with my folks years ago, Clive Owen has been one of my very favorite actors. No one does that British brooding thing quite like he does (see: Gosford Park, CloserInside Man), and when he's bad-ass (i.e. King Arthur, Children of Men, Shoot 'Em Up), he's thrilling. But in his latest movie The Boys Are Back (directed by Shine's Scott Hicks), Owen sheds that stoic persona to play Joe Warr, a father of two sons who, following the death of his second wife, is faced with raising both of them on his own. »

Clive Owen goes against type in 'The Boys Are Back'

24 September 2009 5:12 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Hollywood has found Clive Owen's niche.  It's tough-minded thrillers such as "Sin City," "The International" and "Shoot 'em Up" and upscale dramas such as "Duplicty" and "Closer."  He hasn't broken into comedy yet (except for a few cameos here and there), but with his latest release, "The Boys Are Back," he's definitely showing a more emotional side.Based on the Simon Carr non-fiction novel of the same name, "Boys" centers on a British sportswriter living in Australia who is struggling with raising his two boys after the unexpected passing of his second wife. Directed by Scott Hicks who first burst on the... »

Fame, Rage and Capitalism

This week, contrasting approaches to filmmaking bring about balance and equilibrium. Experimentalism (Sally Potter's "Rage" and Michael Almereyda's "Paradise") collides head on with tried and tested formulas (the Clive Owen starrer "The Boys Are Back" and a remake of "Fame").

Stanley Tucci adapts and stars in the second remake from the canon of slain Dutch director Theo Van Gogh, the first being Steve Buscemi's 2007 "Interview." Paul Giamatti Gets Ironclad

18 September 2009 12:33 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Production begins next month on the medieval actionfest Ironclad, and Variety are reporting that Paul Giamatti has just signed on to play the measly, weasely, blabberin', jabberin', wheelin', dealin' King John. Last we heard, the cast already includes Robert Carlyle, Bob Hoskins, William Moseley, Pete Postlethwaite, Richard Attenborough and star-of-the-show James Purefoy. Verily tis the Dirty Dozen of knights-in-armour films.Ironclad is the story of a group of Templar Knights defending Rochester Castle against John, who you'll recall was proxy king while his brother Richard was off on the Crusades.Giamatti's villainy has been proven before in Shoot 'em Up, so the potential mix of that and some Harvey Pekar shmo-ness as, incredible as he is inept, he sits alone on his giant throne pretending he's the king, has us rubbing our hands with anticipatory glee.Strange how these things come in pairs, isn't it? Disney Buys Marvel, DJ Am Remembered And A 'Twilight' Actor Eats A Horse In Today's Twitter-Wood

31 August 2009 3:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Disney surprised a lot of tweeters this morning when the company announced its acquisition of Spider-Man and X-Men publishers Marvel Entertainment. Kevin Smith, Jeff Katz, Dax Shepard, and many others chimed in with thoughts on the purchase.

Elsewhere, the tweets are still trickling in from those remembering DJ Am, including renowned Vegas party-goer Paris Hilton. The list of tweets today was actually fairly thick to sort through, with all of these reactions, a photograph of a "Twilight" star biting into a horse and Bob Saget's response to a fan's request for him to tell the "Aristocrats" joke on Twitter. It's all below in the Twitter-Wood Report for August 31, 2009.

'Men Who Stare At Goats,' Ted Kennedy And Shannon Elizabeth's View Of The L.A. Fires In Today's Twitter-Wood

"Men Who Stare at Goats," the new George Clooney and Ewan McGregor film about psychic soldiers, kicked off a flurry of commentary on Twitter this week, and at least one producer out there loves Jeff Bridges' role.

There's been a lot of real-life drama sweeping through the Twitter-Wood feed as well this week, including Ted Kennedy's death and memorial service and the wildfires in Los Angeles that have forced thousands of residents out of their upscale L.A. neighborhoods. Shannon Elizabeth caught a shot of the fires from her living room window, which you can find below. 'Eclipse' Update From David Slade And Kevin Smith On 'Degrassi Goes Hollywood' In Today's Twitter-Wood

David Slade may be experiencing some frustrations on the set of "Eclipse" right now, but none of them are coming from his lead cast members, according to his tweets today. The director spoke highly of "Twilight" lovebirds Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, but had less complimentary things to say about airplane noise overhead.

Director Kevin Smith, meanwhile, offered up some self-deprecating commentary on his appearance in the new full-length "Degrassi" movie, "Degrassi Goes Hollywood," where he returned to hob-nob with his favorite Canadian teen-stars. And speaking of teen-stars, I've got a shot of Frankie Muniz's recent hand injury in the Twitter Pic of the Day. Have a look at that along with other pics from Rachelle Lefevre and Neil Gaiman. Warner Bros. Answers Prayers for 'Outland' Remake

20 August 2009 2:03 AM, PDT | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

I remember not thinking Outland was very good when I snuck into the theater to see it in 1981, and I can't imagine that, even at such a young age, I missed anything that would flip the switch and make this movie one we need to return to 30 years later. Of course, there's no stopping the remake now; Warner Bros. is developing the film with Shoot 'Em Up director Michael Davis.

If you missed it, Outland is essentially an intergalactic High Noon, with Sean Connery not at the top of his game as a marshal stationed at a mining outpost one of Jupiter's moons who must battle dangerous drug pushers...in spaaaacccce. »

Sean Connery's Outland Being Remade

19 August 2009 5:00 PM, PDT | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

Warner Bros have hired "Shoot 'Em Up" helmer Michael Davis to direct "Outland," a remake of Sean Connery's 1981 sci-fi film. Chad St. John, who penned the WB drama "The Days Before," will pen the new film. The drama revolves around a police marshal stationed at a remote mining colony on Jupiter's moon Io, where he uncovers a murderous conspiracy threatening the entire Outland with collapse. "We loved the original sci-fi film with Sean Connery," producer Gianni Nunnari said. "At its core, 'Outland' is a version of 'High Noon' in outer space, as two courageous people take a stand against a gang of ruthless conspirators at the highest level." "We're staying true to the thematic heart of 'Outland' while expanding the space frontier concept," added Davis. »
