The people who ruined the decade

Part 5: From Sir Tim Berners-Lee to Phil Mitchell

Sir Tim Berners-lee Invented the internet. Omg!

Nice one, Sir T. You came up with a useful, unifying means of global communication that changed the way we went about everything, from news to wanking. Then celebrity bloggers appeared to combine the two: Drunken Stepfather, The Superficial, Dlisted and the grotesque grande dame of them all, Perez "Zzzz!" Hilton, made stars out of socialites, turned the upskirt shot into a goldmine and made being a no-limits prick about everyone acceptable by calling it "snark". You enjoy that knighthood.

Seltzer & Friedberg That joke really isn't funny any more

Scary Movie was faintly amusing, but after seeing the same joke rehashed as Scary Movies 2 to 4, Date Movie, Epic Movie, Meet The Spartans and Disaster Movie, is anyone out there still laughing? Yes: writers Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg, …

Parody goes international with Spanish Movie

7 December 2009 12:41 AM, PST | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

People have been emailing about this one all weekend, and until now it's stayed off the radar - likely because it only opened in Spain. While the U.S. has been saturated with films like Scary Movie, Epic Movie, Date Movie, Not Another Teen Movie, and the classic Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday The Thirteenth, now the Spanish market has their own parody in the form of Javier Ruiz Caldera's Spanish Movie.

The film just opened on the 4th and features parodies of films such as The Orphanage, Pans Labyrinth, [Rec] and more.

Check out a trailer below the jump, and be sure to hit the official site for loads of clips and music videos - but beware, they're not subtitled.

Spanish Movie Trailer: A(nother) Herald of the End Times

6 December 2009 1:59 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Never, ever make the mistake of thinking that the Us has a lock on shitty, terrible 'parody' comedy films. There's an argument to be made that we're not even close to the worst offender when it comes to making quick-buck films like Date Movie and Epic Movie. As proof, here's the trailer for Spanish Movie, a film produced in Spain that pokes fun at a broad swath of globally-recognizable Spanish-language films. The references are diverse, ranging from The Orphanage and Pan's Labyrinth to The Sea Inside and No Country For Old Men. (Not exactly a Spanish film, but Javier Bardem is close enough, I guess.) Some of the films used as material are a bit out of date, but the comedy on display in the trailer is hardly fresh. Javier Ruiz Caldera directs the film, which is expected to become one of the year's biggest box-office successes in Spain. It …

Exclusive: 'Transylmania' Unveils New Scenes, Hopes to Dazzle Twilighters This Weekend

4 December 2009 12:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Technically, “Transylmania” isn’t a spoof film like “Date Movie,” “Meet the Spartans” and the like. But that hasn’t stopped the teens-in-vampireland comedy from cutting together a clever “New Moon”-inspired movie trailer . What's more, stars Jennifer Lyons and Oren Skoog insist that the film’s mix of love, supernatural scares and comedy will appeal to Twilighters.

“I was just looking at all the characters and thinking about that,” explained Lyons, who plays a demonically-possessed co-ed named Lynne in the flick that opens this weekend. “And I realized that almost every character in this movie is looking for love in every ridiculous, goofy way you can imagine. There’s a lot of forbidden love - we even have love between a head and a person; wait, that didn’t sound good.”

Yep, one subplot does indeed involve a severed female head still alive enough to get angry at her boyfriend for cheating on her. …

[DVD Review] Vampire Party

1 December 2009 5:00 PM, PST | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

I hate to sound like an old fogy, but boy, they sure don’t make ‘em like they used to. And by ‘em, I mean spoof movies in the Zucker mold (specifically Airplane and The Naked Gun) that were amusing enough at the time, but in retrospect have come to seem like small miracles in comparison with the films that they have inspired. Vampire Party is just one of those films, and it does absolutely nothing to better the image of the parody film as lazy, uninspired, and more irritating than funny. But unlike Scary Movie, Scary Movie 2, Scary Movie 3, Scary Movie 4, Date Movie, Epic Movie, Disaster Movie, and Superhero Movie, this is from France.

Sam (Patrick Mille), Alice (Frederique Bel), and Prune (Julie Fournier) are young people who (as is clearly established in the opening narration, perhaps the only very French touch in the whole movie) love to party. …

Afm Debuts First Photos and Synopses from 6 Upcoming Movies Including Manolete, Mona Lisa, Small Town Saturday Night and The Long Good Friday

12 November 2009 8:18 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

When it comes to the first photos and synopsis from upcoming films, Collider has reaped great rewards from this year’s American Film Market (Afm).  For those who don’t know, Afm is where film buyers from around the world come once a year to buy movies and also pre-buy films in development.  Simply put, this is where a lot of money changes hands in the film industry and it’s where many decisions about what you and I get to see are made.  In an effort to try and raise a film’s profile or attract film buyers, many of the studios distribute full synopses and still images for their movies.

With that in mind, we have grabbed some of those synopses and images for Manolete (starring Adrien Brody and Penelope Cruz), Mona Lisa, PearblossomSmall Town Saturday Night (starring Chris Pine), and The Long Good Friday.  Hit the …

Teaser Trailer and Art for Pearblossom

30 October 2009 5:20 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

And the award for least likely title for a horror film goes to ... Who cares what the movie's called? It stars Sophie Monk, and she's like the finest haul of Halloween candy imaginable! Time for a treat!

Pearblossom also stars Scout Taylor-Compton (Rob Zombie's Halloween I & II), Patrick Renna (Dark Ride), Electra Avellan (Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's Grindhouse), Danny Woodburn (Watchmen) and Charles Napier (The Silence Of The Lambs).

Synopsis

It's New Year's Eve, 1968: While driving on the Pearblossom Highway, a lesbian couple (played by Sophie Monk of "The Hills Run Red" and "Date Movie"; and Anya Lahiri of the "Goal" series) find themselves face to face with the creator of the universe (played by Victoria's Secret supermodel Angela Lindvall). Laid to rest for 40 years, the women wake up on New Year's Day as reborn creatures. Now, they walk the earth fighting in the eternal battle of good and evil, …

Six Clips From Horror Parody Stan Helsing

21 October 2009 9:19 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

This Halloween, in case you're not up for the actual scares of a new Saw movie or Trick 'r Treat on DVD, you have Stan Helsing, a movie advertised as "from a producer of Scary Movie" and taking the basic concept of the Epic Movie/Date Movie franchise and applying it to horror villains. No, I'm not really sure how it's actually different from the Scary Movie movies. But maybe you can figure it out by watching the six clips from below, showing off some of the goofier scenes of the movie, and not necessarily the bloodier ones. The previews make it seem like the plot revolves around the arrival of a bunch of different famous horror villains (Jason, Freddy Krueger, Leatherface, all the rest) but most of the clips focus around your average bar hijinks. I'm betting on the usual mixed bag of horror parodies, but with the movie …

Sophie Monk in The Hills Run Red. Strips!

2 October 2009 1:55 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Hmm, Sophie Monk. Internet related search returns: 'an English-Australian pop singer, actress and model. She was once a member of female pop group Bardot and has since established a solo career with the release of an album, Calendar Girl. More recently, she turned her hand to acting, appearing in films such as Date Movie and Click.'

She also appears in a new horror film called The Hills Run Red, and she strips in it. As Wayne would say Schwing! So 1990 dude... More here.

Exclusive: Teaser for fem-centric horror Pearblossom

8 September 2009 11:43 AM, PDT | QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news »

Thanks to our friends over at Bleiberg we've scored the first footage for their upcoming lesbian weirdness Pearblossom. Originally titled Murderworld, the story revolves around a lesbian couple (played by Sophie Monk and Anya Lahiri whose loves scenes are better then her acting) getting some special powers from God (Victoria'a Secret supermodel Angela Lindvall), who in this film, is a female. While clearly made for the more base natures of mankind, it still has a heavy feminist tone. Only one thing is missing, footage from the 60s party at the beginning of the flick.

Synopsis:

It's New Year's Eve, 1968: While driving on the Pearblossom Highway, a lesbian couple (played by Sophie Monk of "The Hills Run Red" and "Date Movie"; and Anya Lahiri of the "Goal" series) find themselves face to face with the creator of the universe (played by Victoria's Secret supermodel Angela Lindvall). Where is Pearlblossom (Murder World)?

29 July 2009 3:45 PM, PDT | QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news »

Where is this film? It was shot in 2007 and I can't find anything on it other then a synopsis and poster, and in fact, I've read radically different plot outlines for it. The one below is listed on Bleiberg's website, and another has the creator of the universe choosing a girl to devour evil. Huh? Vampires? Super models? God? I don't really know, but something about it intrigues me. Now when's it getting a release?

It's New Year's Eve, 1968: While driving on the Pearblossom Highway, a lesbian couple (played by Sophie Monk of "The Hills Run Red" and "Date Movie"; and Anya Lahiri of the "Goal" series) find themselves face to face with the creator of the universe (played by Victoria's Secret supermodel Angela Lindvall). 'Terminator Salvation' Loses Box Office Battle to 'Night at the Museum 2'

24 May 2009 7:01 PM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

"Terminator Salvation" has run out of gas on the race to the top of North American box office. Though having a solid opening on Thursday, May 21, the action thriller from director McG has to admit defeat from "Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian" at the weekend duel.

During the three days weekend beginning Friday, May 22, the fourth movie of the "Terminator" series dug up approximately $43.0 million. The weekend bow was around $10 million less than what "Battle of the Smithsonian" collected and fell short of the $44 million start by 2003's "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines". Still, the big number was enough to place it second on the chart.

Of the lost, Warner Bros. claimed that this Christian Bale-starring movie, which was more targeted at male moviegoers, was likely to be affected by competition for older men from the National Basketball Association playoffs. Nonetheless, "Salvation" has hauled …

Review: Dance Flick

23 May 2009 8:03 AM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Keenen Ivory Wayans' nephew Damien makes his feature directorial debut with Dance Flick, the latest from a comedy factory even bigger and more confusing than Judd Apatow's. Let's see if I can get this straight. Keenen and his brother Damon Wayans started to break into showbiz in the early 1980s (apparently with some help from Eddie Murphy). Then Keenen wrote and directed the very funny blaxploitation spoof I'm Gonna Git You Sucka (1988), which featured roles for many of his siblings, plus one for a young Chris Rock. Then he created the terrific TV show "In Living Color" (1990), which, among its other accomplishments, boosted Jim Carrey's career. There were some other attempts at movies, most embarrassingly White Chicks (2004) and Little Man (2006), but their real bread and butter seemed to come from Sucka-like spoofs and parodies, starting with Scary Movie (2000).

I like that movie, and even its first two sequels have some memorable moments, …

"Dance Flick" review. Welcome back to the big leagues of comedy Wayans family.

21 May 2009 | Movie Jungle | See recent Movie Jungle news »

Dance Flick reviewby Eric Sloss(3.5/5)   Movie parodies have been big business since the surprise success of “Airplane!” almost 30 years ago.  This genre has been running on fumes lately though.  The lack of creativity and originality in “Epic Movie”, “Date Movie”, “Disaster Movie” and “Meet the Spartans” has set the bar so low now, that any wit shown in this genre is refreshing.  Even though these movies mentioned have lacked the goods, they have made money.  That is until “Disaster Movie” tanked recently at the box office.    Now comes the Wayans family and “Dance Flick”.  The movies they go after is obvious by the title.  I did not go into this film with great expectations after being underwhelmed by “White Chicks” and “Little Man”.  “Dance Flick” is surprisingly good with several inspired scenes.  Many parody films of today just take an original scene and just tweak it a little.  It takes …

Video: 5 Dance Flick Clips

17 May 2009 8:17 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

You've probably already written Dance Flick as yet another in a long line of completely ineffective parody flicks. However, I'm going to give it a little credit. This particular parody movie may actually have something going for it that none of the other similar movies churned out by this genre in recent years have had: It's actually parodying the thing that it's supposed to be parodying. Below we have five clips from Dance Flick and all of them, actually parody dance movies. You won't find a random Star Wars parody or a Batman parody thrown in. They're actually attempting to make fun of dance movies and let's face it, that's a genre that's had it coming for a long time. Whether their parodies will actually be funny is another matter, but at least they're trying. That's more than you can say for Date Movie or Superhero Movie or the others …

NBC Announces New Shows, Including “Day One”

5 May 2009 5:10 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

On Monday, May 5th 2009, The Jay Leno network NBC announced a slate of new shows at their In-Fronts for the 2009 / 2010 television season.  No the above screen shot is not from their in-fronts.  It’s a behind the scenes shot from NBC’s new show, Day One.

Keeping in mind that we here at Screen Rant are all about action / adventure and sci-fi / fantasy (with a dribble of comedy). I’ve left out some details on the new NBC comedy shows but only because we do like our action-adventure shows.  Rather than babble about what I am going to say, I might as well get right to it:

Day One

Day One is a new futuristic drama that will premiere out of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games and the premise sounds awful familiar.

NBC Shakes Up Schedule With Six New Scripted Series

5 May 2009 8:36 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – NBC held a special “in-front” announcement yesterday, two weeks in front of the standard upfront presentations and revealed six news series for the fall while leaving some beloved programs up in the air. On the bubble shows “Southland” and “Heroes” were renewed, but the jury is still out on “Chuck,” “Medium,” “Law & Order,” and “My Name is Earl”.

Of course, the focus of the peacock network in yesterday’s presentation was on “The Jay Leno Show,” which will air five nights a week in primetime, reducing time slots for new and returning programming. Consequently, if your favorite show doesn’t make it to the fall, blame Jay.

The NBC event did not unveil the actual complete schedule, just making a few announcements about new programming, so there are still a few question marks about some of its bubble shows but struggling “Southland,” “Heroes,” and “Parks and Recreation” did get the reprieve for the fall. …
