The interior of Hector and Shelliot's house, Fred's cabin, the entire Kids' School location, and all the confrontation scenes in the woods, were actually all located on one property in Topanga Canyon, California. The location is owned by stuntman Tony Snegoff and was formerly the home of the legendary musician Woody Guthrie.

Worth hunting down

Schooled is a great film because of its look at how we treat young people in this country. It addresses our fundamentally flawed public school system and shows a real-life alternative that is working for lots of free kids. Go see it and get schooled yourself.

As far as the film as entertainment, it's not perfect. The storyline is a little confusing. I'm still not sure about some of the key points of the teacher's life and sometimes I couldn't tell if we were flashing back. That having been said, there are some really phenomenal scenes in this movie. The acting (especially the supporting cast) was truly superb at times. And after all, the basic storyline is fresh, which is entertaining in itself.
