If money is power, these actresses are superheroes

14 October 2009 3:00 PM, PDT | AfterEllen.com | See recent AfterEllen.com news »

Forbes’ lists of powerful women usually are fairly predictable, topped (in every sense) by Angelina Jolie.

But last week, Forbes published its annual list that reveals another side to power: Roi. And the top 10 actresses who provide the best return on a film company’s investment may surprise you.

At No. 1 is Australian actress Naomi Watts.

Watts’ most recent movie, The International, was a suspenseful thriller, to be sure, but it was only a modest box office success. Watts, however, gets less than $5 million a film — and earned the studio about $44 for every $1 she was paid on her last three major movies.

Second is Jennifer Connelly.

Although He’s Just Not That Into You was fairly cliché, Imo, the studio convinced its stars to take a pay cut to be in the movie. It made $177 million. Average that with Connelly’s roles in Blood Diamond and The Day the Earth Stood Still »

'Friends' star Matt LeBlanc to spoof self on Showtime series 'Episodes'

30 September 2009 10:26 AM, PDT | Gold Derby | See recent Gold Derby news »

Matt LeBlanc has been little seen since his ill-conceived "Friends" spinoff "Joey" crashed and burned three years ago. While that show sputtered out after two seasons on NBC, it's failure should not take away from the enormous success LeBlanc enjoyed with "Friends." And no doubt he hopes to recapture some of that magic with his newly announced series "Episodes,"  a co-production between Showtime and the BBC set to air next year. This showcase for LeBlanc is being shepherded by two sitcom veterans -- "Friends" co-creator David Crane and "Mad About You" producer Jeffrey Klarik. The single-camera comedy will follow the misadventures of an English couple whose urbane Britcom is dumbed down for American audiences with the casting of LeBlanc, who will play an exaggerated version of himself. As he said in today's news release: "I am so glad I got the part, seeing someone else play Matt LeBlanc would have been devastating. »

Johann Urb Bewitches Audiences In Eastwick

24 September 2009 11:45 PM, PDT | TVStar | See recent TVStar news »

The ladies of Eastwick -- Lindsay Price, Jaime Ray Newman, and Rebecca Romijm -- are getting most of the press as ABC launches its new series based on the John Updike novel. And rightly so. Yes, Paul Gross fills Jack Nicholson's loafers as Darryl Van Horne, the devilish guy who arrives in small-town Eastwick and grants the trio of women some unusual powers, but keep an eye on Johann Urb, who plays Will. If the show, which premiered last night, bewitches audiences, Urb could magically emerge as one of its breakout stars. PopStar recently connected with Urb -- whose credits include Dirt and the Paris Hilton extravaganza The Hottie and the Nottie -- for a wide-ranging, exclusive interview with the actor. Read on as he discusses his background, things to come on Eastwick, and his upcoming projects. You may be a fresh face for some people. For those newcomers out there, »

Fall 2009 TV: What’s Premiering Tonight?

23 September 2009 3:13 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

With the Fall season starting, we, once again, get a slew of new and returning shows - So many that it’s impossible to watch everything. I have a DVR and even with my nerdy television calculations (Yes, I do have them), I can’t figure out how to watch everything.

Let’s break this down to see what’s on tonight and whether or not it’s worth watching.

What’s New?

NBC: 8pm - Mercy

Mercy is about a whip-smart nurse (that’s not me, that’s straight out of the press release), Veronica Callahan, who has just returned to work at Mercy Hospital after a tour of service in Iraq. She’s not afraid to bend the rules to save her patients, but her outspoken attitude might wind up costing her job. (that’s my favorite part. “she’s not afraid to bend the rules”)

At the TCA press conference for her upcoming series, "Cougar Town," Cox joked with reporters, saying, "I did know about her movie. I'm not sure exactly what the storyline is other than it's probably a woman. And I guess pumas are in their 30s. Isn't that right? Pumas are in their 30s? Jaguars are in their 50s, and saber-tooths go right into the 60s." As for the possibility that the two women will reunite like they did on Cox's FX series, "Dirt," she says, "You know, she's a »

Hart Drew On Family History For Schizophrenic Role

9 August 2009 7:06 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Former Harry Potter star Ian Hart had no problem playing a schizophrenic paparazzo in Courteney Cox's defunct TV drama Dirt because two of his uncles suffered mental illness.

The British actor dedicated the character to his uncles Chris and Joe - and felt he owed it to them tackle the role with sensitivity - because neither of his relatives were dangerous.

He tells WENN, "As a kid, when my uncle Chris would come round to my house and just sit there laughing; he was the happiest man alive. To me, as a kid, I just thought he was crazy and not mentally ill.

"And my uncle Joe would walk 40 miles with a stack of 45 records in one hand and an old record player in a box in the other and come to the house, put his records on and dance around the living room.

"As a child, I thought, 'Whatever he's doing, sign me up.' Neither of my schizophrenic uncles posed any threat or negativity to me." »

Hart Tried Paparazzi Life In Cox And Aniston's Shoes

22 June 2009 1:05 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

British actor Ian Hart researched his role as a paparazzi in Courteney Cox's axed TV drama series Dirt by pretending to be the former Friends star.

The Backbeat actor agreed to take Cox's car for a spin after dining with the actress and her pal Jennifer Aniston - and quickly realised how dangerous life can be for an A-list celebrity.

Hart says, "I drove their car for them to drive the photographers outside off the scent. It is completely round the bend. At Courteney's house they're constantly popping their heads over the fence like little rabbits... they're hiding in the bushes. It seems impossible for them to leave home without the paparazzi following them.

"Courteney is very fortunate to live a nice life on the beach in a lovely house in Malibu, but they've had to put up a big fence so they can't see the ocean, so what's the point? Both Courteney and Jennifer have a very sensible attitude towards it - they accept it, they know it's not gonna go away.

"If it was me, I'd be in prison because someone would get hit or a camera would get smashed. Then I'd have to take an anger management course. It wouldn't end well."

Hart played a shady, schizophrenic paparazzo on the U.S. show, which was a critical success but a rating failure. »
