The wilderness fights back., 11 May 2007
9/10
Author: Edgewalker from Tuxford, England

A great episode that manages to deal with environmental issues without being either preachy or sentimental. The idea of the wilderness fighting back against human encroachment is well executed and dramatic. The monsters are genuinely unnerving and the knowledge that they could be anywhere builds and builds the tension. And Mulder's dislike of training courses makes you feel less alone. The fact that the environmental message isn't laid on too thick means it is possible to simply enjoy the episode as an intelligent Monster of the Week. Detour is a haunting episode that stays with you after the credits and into the countryside. Look over your shoulder as you walk down the lane.
