Trivia:
Sydney Lassick reprises his memorable role of the instable but good-hearted inmate of a mental institution that he played in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975), here as Chuck Forsch, then as Charley Cheswick. Notably, he's the fourth and last actor who played an inmate in Milos Forman's movie who performed in "X-files" too, after Brad Dourif, Vincent Schiavelli and Michael Berryman. more

Elegy is a fine X File, forgotten and cobwebbed perhaps, but dynamic and satisfying all the same. John Shiban's script throws shapes and shadows all over the place and neatly keeps you guessing until the credits are inches away. Steven Porter and Sydney Cassick are so deep within their characters that you can't imagine them going home that night, having tea, reading the mail. Lorena Gale gives the kind of sharp performance that keeps her constantly in work, while Duchovny and Anderson comfortably juggle the horror film shocks and jolts with the tender worry of Scully's cancer. Jim Charleston's direction is nice, without being unnecessarily showy and at the close of it's forty minutes, you're left wondering why Elegy didn't have such an impact on you first time around.
