An OK - if unspectacular - X File that relies on some stunning guest star performances to pull it through. Richard Fitzpatrick is brilliant as Charles Wesley Gotts, he radiates menace and you are sometimes unsure as to whether this is an actor or an ex-con who just happened to be in the vicinity. Blu Mankuma makes a welcome return to the series and gives a convincing turn as the dour cop who desperately wants to close a case that seems to constantly twist and turn out of his grip. The scene where Blu calls Mulder sceptical is a gem, both actors working the material for all its worth. Gillian is given little to do except wander around looking sour, but nobody can wander around looking sour like she can. A workman-like X File that won't knock your eyes out, but passes forty minutes amiably.
