Redux II adds on to the angst created by Gethsemane and Redux and brings the tension to a thrilling climax that leaves the viewer with a memorable impression. When Scully collapses during the FBI panel hearing and returns to the hospital, Mulder is forced to acknowledge that he is still alive. During this episode, we see some of David Duchovny's finest dramatic acting when he is at Scully's bedside. When you see Mulder's concern for Scully, you would swear it is really happening, it feels so real. The makeup department does a fine job on "cancer" Scully. She looks so sick at the hospital. The drama reaches its height during this episode when the Cigarette Smoking Man(CSM) offers to return Mulder's sister to him in exchange for working for him. Mulder then meets someone who appears to be his sister. And it's this one scene that prevents this episode from being a 10. In season two's "End Game", Mulder saw and interacted with several Samantha clones. The Samantha in Redux II looks just like the clones but Mulder never questions it. I feel that Mulder would've been a lot more cautious this time around, considering that CSM is the one presenting her. The final segment of Redux II is not to be missed. I love how Mulder's speech at the FBI panel is integrated with simultaneous shots of Scully at the hospital and CSM at his apartment. The suspense doesn't get any better when Mulder is getting ready to reveal the bad guy in the FBI and the sniper has his sites on CSM. Redux was so nice they named it twice.

The second hour of the two-part Season 5 opener, and third hour of the three part arc is definitely one of the best episodes of the show.It managed to both MOVE on with the story arc, and give the characters plenty of character development. In this episode Cancer Man sways away from his old gang as they do not trust him anymore. He wanted to get Mulder working for them by giving him the cure to Scully's cancer and by giving him the opportunity to speak to his sister. It wasn't the real Samantha, but I wish it was her rather than just another clone. at the end of the episode, Cancer Man is betrayed by his own people and shot in his apartment. His body wasn't found because the guy has nine lives obviously.Scully's cancer storyline also came to an end, we were led to believe that she wasn't cured by CSM's device but cured by her faith instead. A miracle? Gillian Anderson was excellent in this episode, certainly one of her best performances.I'm glad that the whole 'aliens were just a hoax' thing was denied by Cancer Man in this episode instead of being taken deeper into the story (even though it did make Mulder into a skeptic for all season).all in all, FIVE stars for this one. It blew my mind.
Maybe there are miracles... But I don't dare call them that., 17 November 2009 Author: Sanpaco13 from Sandy, UT, United States
And finally the wonderful conclusion to this three parter. Redux II really is the ultimate climax to this story arc and is one of the better episodes of the series. Mulder comes out of hiding upon learning of Scully's condition and he is now a suspect to the murder investigation of the man found in his apartment. Meanwhile, he doesn't seem to be too interested in his own self preservation. He spends his time with Scully and while he is at the hospital, runs into CSM who wants a palaver. He tells Mulder that what he found in the Pentagon truly is the cure for Scully's cancer. Mulder convinces Scully and doctor to try to reimplant the chip they find. This doesn't appear to be working, and is doing nothing more than making Bill Scully hate Mulder even more than he already did. CSM seems to be trying to earn Mulder's trust. He offers another branch to Mulder. His sister Samantha. They meet in a coffee shop at night and the lady (obviously not really Samantha but another clone) puts on a very good show and leaves most of us including Mulder, pretty convinced that it is the real Samantha. But she gets upset at digging up painful memories and leaves without any hope of ever seeing her again. CSM shows up again and offers Mulder a final deal, a deal with the devil. He offers Mulder the truth. He tells Mulder that Kritschgau has lied to him and he will tell him the real truth if Mulder will quit the FBI. Mulder quickly tells him off and leaves. The time finally comes for Mulder's hearing. But before he goes, he visits Scully who has decided to open up and turn to her faith in her time of need. He tells her what he is about to do and she promises to keep him in her prayers. On a hunch, and in a very tense moment that serves as the clear climax of the episode, Mulder names Section Chief Blevins as the FBI mole. Blevins is horrified and rushes to his office where he is shot. Cut to CSM in his office as he is shot by a sniper sent by the syndicate. And finally cut to Mulder and Skinner outside Scully's hospital room where we learn that Scully's cancer has gone into remission. In these final moments, everything seems to have resolved quite nicely, but we are quickly reminded of Mulder's desire to find his sister Samantha. After all that has happened, this seems to be the one goal that will never be achieved. The story, the directing and acting, everything about the episode is just perfect making this one of the best episodes of the series. I give it a 10 out of 10.
