Sony Pictures Twitter account, @SonyPictures, was on fire Tuesday night with constant tweet updates about this celebrity or that celebrity showing up on the red carpet to go watch the premier of the late Michael Jackson in This Is It. Along with those celebrities, thousands of people across the nation were able to see the film for the first time as well.
According to CNN, This Is It brought in an estimated $2.2 million for Tuesday October 27th, and although the official numbers will take another day or so to be finalized, the final numbers shouldn’t be too much higher or lower than that. There are some conflicting numbers coming out though, and it may not be until later next week before we see anything concrete. While CNN is saying $2.2 million, Hollywood Insider is reporting $7.4 million domestic and $12.7 international. The La Times seems to echo Hollywood Insider’s numbers with

CBS Films has sent over the first image and a first look featurette from director Tom Vaughan’s (”Starter for 10,” “What Happens in Vegas”) “Extraordinary Measures”. The film stars Harrison Ford, Brendan Fraser and Keri Russell and it’s inspired by the true story of John Crowley, a man who defied conventional wisdom and great odds, and risked his family’s future to pursue a cure for his children’s life threatening disease. While the featurette is mostly the real John Crowley talking about his story, at the end Harrison Ford and Brendan Fraser say a few words. While this kind of movie might not appeal to all of you, with the cast involved, I thought it was worth sharing. I’m hoping with Tom Vaughan directing it’ll be more than a movie of the week. Take a look at the image and featurette after the jump. “Extraordinary Measures

Un-Smurfing-Believable. Day 293 of Smurf-watch, and it appears as if the project still exists. I repeat, the news is that they are still making a Smurfs movie. They are not stopping. Ever.
The other news is that the fine folks over at Film Drunk have some casting information that sheds some light on how the movie will shape up character-wise. I'm not going to claim that the team over at Film Drunk went and actually auditioned, but I think we all know that's the case. Good luck, guys!
The two characters being cast are described as follows:
Sophie: A pre-teen girl who possesses enormous smarts and great imagination, but who is socially and physically clumsy. She discovers that the doll her dad brought home from Belgium is actually a living, breathing Smurf. And not just any Smurf - Clumsy Smurf! Sophie tries to get her mom and dad to embrace Clumsy as a member of the family, but

So far I’m compiling quite a list of movies to watch this fall: Surrogates, Armored, Pandorum, Gamer, 9, Whiteout, Extract, Trucker; and that’s just the first 3 weeks of September. Now, I’m adding a new one to my list - Dorian Gray.
Based on the 1890 novel by Oscar Wilde, Dorian Gray follows the exploits of a young man who meets artist Basil Hallward. Hallward paints a picture of Gray and becomes infatuated with him. When Gray realizes that one day that his beauty and lifestyle will fade, he sells his soul to have Basil’s painting age instead of him.
It’s an interesting story, to be sure, and the topics it covered - homosexuality, debauchery, self-indulgence - were highly controversial, even by today’s standards, in the late 1800’s. The novel is still considered to be one of the greatest examples of modern day Western Literature. The teaser trailer,

Check out the first official movie poster featuring Paul Giamatti from the upcoming comedy “Cold Souls” by director Sophie Barthes (Happiness) and starring Paul Giamatti (The Haunted World of El Superbeasto, John Adams) and Emily Watson (The Water Horse, Equilibrium).
Synopsis: In response to shiny, bigger, better American consumerism comes Cold Souls, a metaphysical comedy in which souls can be extracted and traded as commodities. Balancing on a tightrope between deadpan humor and pathos, and between reality and fantasy, the film presents Paul Giamatti as himself, agonizing over his interpretation of Uncle Vanya. Paralyzed with anxiety, he stumbles upon a solution via a New Yorker article about a high-tech company promising [...]

Get it while it’s hot! Promo reel for the Korean-Kiwi martial arts western ‘The Warriors Way’

I never thought I would see that day when I would write an article and when it came to choosing categories for our search options I would click both Martial Arts and Western. But here we are…
I think the last movie I saw involving Asian swordsmen plying their trade in the Western landscape was… what? And I don’t mean something like Shanghai Noon. I mean honest to goodness swordsmen hacking it out against cowboys. Once Upon A Time in China and America? Or am I going back farther to Red Sun with Bronson and Mifune? But look at this! This is a martial arts western called The Warriors Way. It was once called Laundry Warrior and either that was deemed insensitive to all the Chinese immigrants who settled in the West at that time or the title itself wasn’t appealing. So what is really going on here?

Wake the Dead , the adaptation of Steve Niles' graphic novel, was really picking up steam last year.
In our last update (complete with concept art from FX house Weta), Jay Russell ( The Water Horse ) was still committed to direct and the script he penned with Jim V. Hart was turned in. However, according to Niles, the project is now at a "standstill."
"We were kind of racing against time a little with Weta because they're about to take on The Hobbit and God knows that's going to consume all of New Zealand for the next five years," he tells MTV.
This is the second major delay for the film which was once set up at Dimension with Michael Dougherty attached to write.

Brendan Fraser is joining Harrison Ford in Tom Vaughan's upcoming drama "Crowley," which heads into production this April.
Based on the true story of John (Fraser) and Aileen Crowley, the plot follows a couple who finds a researcher (Ford) with a potential cure for their two children's rare genetic disorder.
ComingSoon says Ford is also on board as executive producer of the project, which is inspired by a "Wall Street Journal" article and Geeta Anand's book "The Cure."
Robert Nelson Jacobs, whose credits include "Chocolat" and "The Water Horse," wrote the screenplay. Vaughan also helmed "Starter for 10" and "What Happens in Vegas."
Fraser was last seen in "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor." He will next star in Iain Softley's family adventure "Inkheart."

The latest issue of Production Weekly has listed Brendan Fraser in the cast of Crowely, the upcoming drama with Harrison Ford from director Tom Vaughan (What Happens in Vegas).
The film is based on the true story of John and Aileen Crowley, whose two children had a rare genetic disorder. Rather than give up hope that nothing could help his children, John Crowley found a researcher with a potential cure. Fraser will play the title character while Ford will play the researcher, as well as executive produce.
Robert Nelson Jacobs (The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep, The Shipping News) penned the screenplay. It was inspired by a Wall Street Journal article and subsequent book, The Cure, by Geeta Anand.
Fraser will hit the screen later this month in Inkheart, an adventure fantasy flick based on Cornelia Funke’s novel. It also stars Sienna Guillory, Paul Bettany and Helen Mirren.
