  • Factual errors: While in Afghanistan, one of the captors speaks in Farsi while the other answers him in Arabic. Farsi isn't spoken in Afghanistan, and people that speak Farsi can't understand people that speak Arabic.

  • Factual errors: In the beginning, dated in the movie as 10/7/2007, Sam says he's leaving "in 4 days" (10/11/07). Later, at the dinner table, he tells his brother he's leaving "Tuesday". 10/11/2007 was a Thursday.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): SPOILER: Multiple times while a hostage, Capt. Sam Cahill's (Tobey Maguire) character refers to his private as "Private" and indicates that he is the superior officer by giving orders. If you were ever in a hostile situation, you are to refer to the other military officers/personnel as numbers (social security numbers) or by other agreed upon protocol. You are never to indicate who is in charge and therefore offer up (that) information to the captors.
