Storyline

Jan and Cindy are awaken in the middle of the night, scared by mysterious sounds that seem to be emanating from the attic and the vision of what looks like a ghostly apparition outside their window. Investigating, Mike and Carol discover the window in the attic open, the noise from the wind causing a creaking rocking chair to rock, and that there is nothing in the trees outside. What they are initially unaware of is that the cause of all this commotion was the boys - Peter masquerading as the apparition - who wanted to scare the girls. Ultimately Marcia believes the boys were responsible for everything, and she leads her sisters in getting back at the boys with a little of their own medicine. All this pranksterism may get out of hand, especially with a comment added by Alice. Meanwhile, Carol is sculpting a bust of Mike's head for her art class' competition. Written by Huggo

One of the best of the Bradys!
6 November 2006 | by (Haddonfield, IL) – See all my reviews

"Fright Night" is one of the best of the Bradys for a number of reasons. First off, it involves all of the family, including Alice. As usual, she's made to look like a buffoon, which those of us who are tuned in to the subtle meanness directed towards Alice in this show will immediately recognize.

Next, it features everybody's stereotypical characterizations on the show. Mike sermonizes everybody not once, not twice, but THREE times. Carol is pursuing a hobby of sculpting, which proves once again that she's not only got time to be a fabulous mother to six children, but she also has time to go to art classes (thanks to workhorse Alice).

The kids annoy one another as usual, but this is one of those episodes where it's "boys vs. girls". That is, until everybody gangs up on Alice, causing her to freak out and smash Mrs. Brady's lovingly created plaster bust of her hubby.

Another remarkable thing about this episode is that it gives us a rare glimpse of the Brady attic, a room that didn't often figure into the story until much later in the series, when Greg and Marcia faced off about who would claim the attic as a bedroom.

What Brady fan could forget the classic moments from this episode, like the plastic dry cleaner bag "ghost" rising up out of the old trunk? Or Marcia's ghostly disembodied voice moaning "Air! I need air! I must rise and walk the night!"? And Carol bellyaching about the kids using her "good sheets" for their makeshift ghost to scare Alice?
