Nathan Fillion Talks Trucker, Castle, Joss Whedon & Superheroes

15 October 2009 8:09 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Quick, think of the most underrated, under-appreciated Canadian in Hollywood! If you said Céline Dion then I will hunt you down and flog you with a mackerel. The correct answer is Nathan Fillion. This 37 year old, chiseled jaw specimen of a man (my wife made me say that) has an acting career going back to 1993 with several small roles in films and shows you probably never heard of until 1998 in Saving Private Ryan. From there, his career started building, mostly in TV, and he started gaining fanboy support that almost rivals Bruce “The Chin” Campbell.

And just like Campbell, all of his TV shows were canceled. Two Guys a Girl and a Pizza Place went down after 4 seasons, Firefly (which to this day remains one of the best shows on TV never to finish), the very short lived Drive, and now Castle which almost didn’t have a second season »

Nathan Fillion Wants To Be The Greatest American Hero

15 October 2009 4:32 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Nathan Fillion, while having a large cult fanbase and steady work, hasn.t had the greatest run of luck: three television shows in which he has starred (Two Guys and a Girl, Drive, Firefly) were cancelled, his current show (Castle) is constantly rumored to be in jeopardy, and despite a large fan push (see here), he was passed over for the role of Green Lantern by not only a former co-star, but one who already has a superhero franchise growing. Evidently not wanting to be the proverbial kid on the playground who curls into a ball when getting bullied, however, Fillion recently revealed in an interview with IFC that he is still pushing for a superhero franchise . a redo of The Greatest American Hero. .With the technology we have available today for effects, I'd say it's largely the same idea, the same story, but the suit would be able to »

Nathan Fillion’s Castle Stands Strong

30 September 2009 8:10 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Can you believe it?! Nathan Fillion is the lead in a television series that made it to a second season!

Castle, the new hit ABC series is moving full steam ahead into its second season and it looks like it just might have a bright future.

I don’t get it. Everyone who watches Fillion on screen immediately falls in love with the guy and the characters he plays, yet he’s had two shows in a row canceled on him early. Join us as we look back at some key moments in Fillion’s career and talk about his recent successes…

Although, he made a name for himself with Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place alongside Ryan Reynolds, Nathan Fillion’s cult following began with Joss Whedon’s Firefly, which was incredible, but was unfairly treated by Fox and thereby canceled only a fraction into its first season. »

Alien Nation Revival in the Works

30 June 2009 10:20 PM, PDT | TheMovingPicture.net | See recent TheMovingPicture news »

The Sci-Fi Channel is in the process of developing a new version of Alien Nation, the 1988 sci-fi film-turned-television series. Veteran television producer and writer Tim Minear, whose credits include Dollhouse, Drive, Angel, Firefly and The X-Files, is writing the screenplay. Alien Nation centers on the partnership between a veteran cop and his alien detective partner, set against the larger tale of alien "newcomers" who move to Earth and attempt to assimilate into society. The film was directed by Graham Baker and starred James Caan, Mandy Patinkin and Terence Stamp. In 1989, 20th Century Fox TV adapted the movie for television, with Eric Pierpoint and Gary Graham in the lead roles. The show lasted just a single season but spawned a series of books. The show was revived in 1994 as a series of TV movies for Fox, starting with Alien Nation: Dark Horizon. Five more were ultimately aired; the last, Alien Nation: The Udara Legacy, »

Discuss: What Film Friendships Must Be Rekindled?

16 June 2009 10:32 AM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

There's nothing like palpable chemistry on the big screen -- and I'm not talking about only the passionate kind, that je ne sais quoi that makes Mullholland Drive a go-to for steamy interludes. I'm also referring to the platonic manifestation: cinematic friendships. Grab two actors with great camaraderie, and almost nothing can defeat them -- not a bad script, shoddy co-stars, or mediocre directors.

In praise of film friendships in the wake of Rudo & Cursi, The Guardian wonders which friends should be reunited on the big screen. The piece intermingles romantic connections with platonic friendships, and I can't say I blame them. For the most part, the duos we love seem to have a close friendship as much as a fiery romance -- think couples from Tracy and Hepburn to Delpy and Hawke. These duos wouldn't be half as loved if not for that spark of admiration and true interest the radiates between them. »

Will Joe Carnahan Drive ‘The A-Team’ To Success?

28 January 2009 11:18 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

The A-Team movie has been in development for about a decade now. It looked like it was moving forward last year when John Singleton signed on to direct and started talking about casting.

However, things didn’t come together and Singleton left the project due to “creative differences.” It looks now that The A-Team is actually set to go into production this June - and behind the wheel is Joe Carnahan (Narc) directing and Tony and Ridley Scott producing.

Now that’s exciting!

Talent fascists 20th Century Fox want the film released on June 11, 2010 so they’d better be on the ball and ready to roll soon.

The current script by Skip Woods (G.I Joe) will be tweaked by Brian Bloom and Carnahan. Instead of being Vietnam vets, The A-Team will have conducted their tour of duty in the Middle East. Carnahan says:

“You can … make a film that »
